Sandra, I finally read The Thief earlier this year when Sharra at Calico Reaction made it her dare. I loved it. I've already read the second one and I'll be reading the third when I can fit it into my readinch schedule. (Right now I've been sidetracked into continuing reread The Fionavar Tapestry.)
I reread the Fionavar trilogy at least once a year, I'd say :)
What's your LJ screenname, Kerry? I participate in Calico Reaction's discussions too (shel99 over there).

I was always afraid to reread The Fionavar Tapestry because I loved it so much and I've seen people who read later Kay first, not liking it much. So I was afraid it wouldn't stand up. Having just finished The Summer Tree I've found that all the reasons I originally loved it are still there for me. I think I'll be rereading it more often now that I know the magic is still there.

Perelandra, The Robots of Dawn, Prelude to Foundation, Foundation, Son of the Shadows, God Emperor of Dune, Redwall, Salamandastron, The Eyes of the Dragon, Player Piano, 3001: The Final Odyssey, Ender's Game, The Magicians, A Shadow in Summer, Footfall, and lastly, So Long and Thanks for all the Fishes.

It's the blog/book discussion led by Shara White on LiveJournal. You can check it out at http://calico-reaction.livejournal.com/. She also duplicates her reviews at http://calicoreaction.wordpress.com/ but the bulk of her discussions are still happening on LJ, I think.

I'm doing some research on book recommendation and would like to ask for your help. Can you please answer the following form:
Choosing a new book to read.
It will only take a minute, because there are only three questions. My goal is to understand how you choose new books to read.
Thanks a lot.

Oh yeah. I read Gorky Park years ago... pretty good, IIRC.

It is two or three hundred years ahead of time mixed with some steampunk, along with some returning characters.

World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War
Fuzzies and Other People
Rule of Evidence
This final one was a self published book written by a colleague at work.

First are the audio books which are a combo of gifts from my husband and Audible points that needed to get used before they expired.
The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson
The Black Prism by Brent Weeks
When Gravity Fails by George Alec Effinger
A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
The Antipope by Robert Rankin
In Your Dreams by Tom Holt -Wow, audio CDs. How archaic.
Since ebooks are so quick and easy to purchase, I normally don't buy until I'm ready to read them. However, these gift certificates were burning a hole in my pocket so I went a little insane. :D

Wow! That IS quite a haul! I really hope you like The Wars of Light and Shadow and you got the first three, The Curse of the Mistwraith, The Ships of Merior, and Warhost of Vastmark. I only say that because the B&N store near me doesn't have those three shelved, starting with Fugitive Prince, which is of course #4. Dumb. At any rate, I'm envious! And I love Berg's Rai Kirah series!

MAJOR haul is right! Woohoo...
MAJOR haul is right! Woohoo...

Anyway during my journey of the apes I can across another book I have had my eye on
Apocalypse Array

Oooh yes, I didn't spot To Ride Hell's Chasm in that list. That's one of my favorite standalone fantasy novels of all time, and the novel I gave the highest score of all for sffmeta.com (one of the sites I write for adds reviews to their aggregate scores, and we have to give the novels a score from 0 to 100).

Stopped at HPBooks to use the coupon I had and picked up another book in the Foreigner series (I'm slowly accumulating that series) and a few other things that looked interesting.

Highlander: Shadow of Obsession
In the airport we stopped in a bookstore and found
Sex on the Moon: The Amazing Story Behind the Most Audacious Heist in History
and for my Daughter
Forever
When I got back home I went to a comic store and found a treasure trove
Beneath the Planet of the Apes
Escape from the Planet of the Apes: Feature Film Adaptation
Return to the Planet of the Apes: Visions from NowhereReturn to the Planet of the Apes #2: Escape from Terror Lagoon
The aforementioned books were bought for my youngest son.
For myself here I picked up
Six Million Dollar Man, No. 4 : Pilot Error

I'm only allowed to indulge infrequently but this time managed to get a first edition of Billion Year Spree: The True History of Science Fiction by Brian W. Aldiss and an advanced uncorrected proof of O Pioneer! by Frederik Pohl.
Best of all though is the signed first edition of
Embassytown by China Miéville.
Let's hope I can get some time to read them.
Kevin, I love the Otherland series. It could definitely benefit from some editing - some parts drag - but overall it's a great story.

I picked up
The Man Who Cycled the World

I bought Helm by Stephen Gould, Manhattan Transfer by John E. Smith and Holder of Lightning by S.L.Farrell. They're all new authors for me.

I did have a brief look before going on holiday, but they seemed pretty expensive. If I ever go back there; I'll make sure there's plenty of room in my suitcase :)

You know what's sadder. I was there in 2007. Made my all the way down to the store....And it was closed. Would of had to wait for a couple of hours to open. If it was just me I would have, alas I was with my Wife. So we looked at the used shop a couple door down and headed off to Haight Ashbury. Kicking myself to this day

The Road
