I'll have to look for that one :) The only Cherryh I've read are Cuckoo's Egg (which I loved), The Morgaine Saga (which I was ambivalent about - couldn't get into it for some reason), and The Chanur Saga (Compact Space, #1-3) which was good fun. I have a copy of The Faded Sun Trilogy which I haven't read yet.

I've been trying to collect all of Hobb's books. What's working against me is that she's both popular and the first few books are rare. So, when I saw Assassin's quest I scooped it up and held it to my chest like a little kid "Mine!!"I started reading Kushiel's Dart today. I was looking at it a little more closely - it's a signed first edition. I think that's a pretty cool find, and so far the story seems pretty intriguing. I'm going to read more tonight!
I really enjoyed Kushiel's Dart. Her first Trilogy was a wonder to read, her second Trilogy wasn't as good.
Laurel wrote: "I started reading Kushiel's Dart today. I was looking at it a little more closely - it's a signed first edition."wow, what a find! if you're talking a hardcover and it is in good condition, it might be worth a good chunk of change. i have seen them on eBay for over $100.
I just received a Thriftbooks.com order. (I am very much a fan of them. I ordered these Thursday, they shipped Friday, and I received them Saturday. I choose books that ship from the nearest-to-me of their warehouses, but that's still terribly fast service. At $3-4 a book and free shipping, well, squee.)Bones of the Moon - Jonathan Carroll
Sexing the Cherry - Jeanette Winterson
The Secrets of Jin-shei - Alma Alexander
Sunflower - Gyula Krúdy
The Samurai's Garden - Gail Tsukiyama

I've only tried ordering one book from half.com. It never arrived and, even though I was refunded, I've never gone back. I usually stick with Amazon.com--I have Prime so everything I order gets free 2-day shipping. However, Thriftbooks.com looks intriguing. I'm definitely a fan of their recycling and donation initiatives.
There's also the Book Depository, which offers free worldwide shipping. I'm not sure how they manage to make any money with that business model, but it's definitely nice for imports!
I bought a terrible number of books in March (okay, it was 33, but 7 were free and 2 were 99c) so I'm hoping to calm down a bit in April. So far, it's the 5th and I've only bought two.
Twilight's Dawn
The Last Dancer
oh The Last Dancer. I loved that book. I read it many many moons ago. What I can tell you. Its part of a series that will probably never see the light day. What that said, it reads pretty much as a stand alone novel. I didn't even realize it was part of a series until years later.
There are two other books in the series
Emerald Eyes
The Long Run
umm looks like a 4th book
AI War: The Big Boost
This one worries me, its an e-book only
The author had some troubles in the mid 90's Not quite sure what, publisher, personal but he basically disappeared for a while.
Just got The Ten Thousand (already had the 2nd book Corvus)also picked up Swords of Haven: Swords of Heaven
First Lord's Fury
Have a few others ordered.

Ken,
I follow the author's blog and he's just done an ebook release of the new one (AI War: Big Boost) and also released the earlier ones as ebooks. I believe he's looking into print on demand options as well for print readers.
I first discovered the series when a friend loaned me her paperbacks many, many years ago so it is lovely to get my own copies now for a reread.
i remember reading a blog where he explained his problems with the publisher and why he ended up self-publishing, but i can't seem to find it.
For anyone who is interested, Iain M. Banks' Consider Phlebas is available as an ebook for 99c from most ebook retailers. I've never read him before, but his books have always sounded interesting, so I bought it. Goodness knows when it will hit the top of the TBR though.
I bought License to Ensorcell by Katherine Kerr, which I am reading now while on vacation in Orlando.Actually got it with a gift card so bought is really a misnomer
Actually got it with a gift card so bought is really a misnomerI tend to look at it as "obtained" rather than bought. :)

Is this a stand-alone or part of a series?

Joel wrote: "i remember reading a blog where he explained his problems with the publisher and why he ended up self-publishing, but i can't seem to find it."I think I read it also. From what I remember I got the impression that he was.....out in left field. I am not really a lover of the self publishing route. I think writers need a good editor regardless of their station, be it established writer all the way down to first timers
I received my copy of Deathless by Catherynne M. Valente a couple of days ago and started reading it today. I'm enjoying it very much so far.Today I got another order from Thriftbooks.com. (They keep popping up with good used copies of books on my wishlist that I can't get from the library, so I'm able to justify my
The Kappa Child - Hiromi Goto
Lambs of God - Marele Day
Towing Jehovah - James Morrow
The Second Greatest Story Ever Told - Gorman Bechard
I think I'm done for a while. I go through a 20% new/80% used buying spree of a dozen or so books every 3-4 months then relegate myself to reading off my shelves and from the library until my next quarterly splurge. (I do still have a Goodreads bookswap book that should be here in a day or two - The Raw Shark Texts by Steven Hall. Additionally, I have one book on the way through Abebooks coming from England, but I don't expect to see it for a couple of weeks - Spirit: The Princess of Bois Dormant by Gwyneth Jones, which is difficult and/or pricey to find in the US but was a converted $1.06 plus $4 shipping to get from the UK, so I was very excited to find it.)
Was at a church sale this morning and picked up a coupleKnife of Dreams
The Gathering Storm
(I have the series in both hard cover and mass market. When I reread the series 6 years ago, with the expectation of 2 more books, I didnt want to read the hard covers)
Exit Music
Dead or Alive
Kerry, that Iain Banks book is the very same one my dad read yesterday and has recommended to everyone. I might have a look.
Got Royal Assassin and Assassin's Quest along with Golden Fool and The Book of Merlin at 70% at a Borders Store Closing last weekend.

Mike (the Paladin) wrote: "Aren't days when those order boxes arrive great?"They're the best! I tend to watch my tracking numbers like a hawk and jump on my poor mail delivery lady the minute I hear her at the door. (Unfortunately for her, I'm usually home at the time she delivers to my block.)
Have fun with the haul, Kathi!

Yes, like a birthday or Christmas! I'm like Candiss, watching my tracking numbers, anticipation building until they are finally delivered. Honestly, "discovering" used book stores has been wonderful and yet, way too tempting for me to resist.
Sandra aka Sleo wrote: "Good grief, Kathi! When are you going to read all those? LOL"
Well, I am retired... but I still don't read as much as I would like to. I plan on living a LONG time, but it still won't be long enough to read all the books I want to read.

I've spent WAY TOO MUCH on "stuff". I tend to "track my packages" also. Sometimes they take weird routs to. I had one that went from Kentucky to Michigan and then back to Me (in Nashville). When it hit Kentucky I figured I get it next day...but it needed to take it's northern leg first.

Tigana - My first Kay book! I've been dying to read this one because it seems right up my alley, I just hadn't gotten around to buying it.A Game of Thrones - I have this on my Kindle app, but it's a pretty big book and I think I'd enjoy reading it more if I wasn't tethered to my laptop or my phone all the time.
Enclave - I usually expect to like YA novels more than I do, but I have higher hopes than usual for this one.
Revelation - the only ebook I bought this time around.
oooooh, Tigana is one of my favorite books in the whole world. Can't wait to hear what you think of it.
Shel wrote: "oooooh, Tigana is one of my favorite books in the whole world. Can't wait to hear what you think of it."I would like to start it now, but I might not get to it until May. I just started The Name of the Wind, which is pretty darn long, and I'm reading The Iron King for a challenge. Then I think I can start Tigana. Maybe I should just call out of work for a week...

I had read the sample online and liked it and since it was only $0.99 I convinced myself it was worth buying.
I can see that becoming more active in Goodreads is going to severely drain my funds.

You and me both Laura! Well, I've been tempted and bought Tigana. Consider Phlebas is £5 on amazon uk so might wait and see if I can find it cheaper.
Laura, I used to keep my two read pile at maybe 5 or 6 books. I can even remember times when I had absolutely nothing to read. I now try to keep it under 50. Try...
I traded in some books at the used book store and bought some more with the credit:The Overman Culture, The Sheep Look Up, In the Garden of Iden, Orbitsville, The Universe Against Her, and The Children of Shiny Mountain
