When You're Not Reading a Cozy
I'm currently reading "Engaging The Earl" by Mandy Goff. It's the sequel to "The Blackmailed Bride" which I read a few weeks ago. Both are light reads, but enjoyable!

I've seen this book around and thought it seemed interesting. Would you recommend giving it a shot even if its different from what you usually read?"
That's hard to say, Aleksander, because the language and the violence is pretty strong, which would put some readers off. Having said that, I think it's very true of the life that these people were leading, which makes it depressing, because it's hard to see a way out. But it is certainly exciting and well-written.
Check some other reviews as well as mine - might give you a better idea! I borrowed it from the library, which meant I could choose not to finish it if it was too much for me.
William Faulkner was a giant of American Literature (with a capital L!), and I just enjoyed his short story A Rose for Emily. It's about an elderly widow who gets more and more reclusive and peculiar.

Another cute Story Without Words, Polar Bear Bowler: A Story Without Words by Karl Beckstrand. I can imagine little kids making up dialogue and "telling the stories" themselves.
4★ LInk to my review of Polar Bear Bowler with enough of the pictures to get the idea of the story.
I often considering the Gaslight Mysteries cozies, but
Murder in Murray Hill by Victoria Thompson was pretty dark to be considered a cozy. Still very good and worth reading.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
A Summoner had a pretty free rein in 14th century England. He could decide you were guilty of something and summon you to court - unless of course you bribed him. And he never paid for anything. Who would dare charge him? In The Summoner's Sins, author Keith Moray continues his series, which is pretty gruesome.

I am reading A Wicked Conceit
by Anna Lee Huber. Love this series. This one pulled me right in. I recommend starting from book 1 though. Set in 1832 Edinburgh.
I just enjoyed NZ/Aussie author Jacqueline Bublitz's new mystery, narrated by a murdered girl, that should stir up some good book club conversations, Before You Knew My Name.

After many years, I loved my second reading of a favourite, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, which won author Mark Haddon many awards. Young Christopher is a persistent, special, very trying kid. Love him!

Non-cozy reading for this week included all five books in the “Spiderwick Chronoicles” by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black. Fun fantasy/adventure series! (Middle grade/YA) I also read Babette's Feast by Isak Dinesen, a classic group read for the month. I nearly gave up before I started. I was able to find a free PDF version online. Unfortunately, the print is minuscule and, being a PDF, I could not adjust the font. Glad I brazened it out, as it was a good story.
I’ve also been pecking away at 100 Classic Short Stories, the anthology I am determined to finish this year. Four stories read this week, so I have fewer than twenty to go. I need to read 2-3 each month — easy-peasy, right? 😐

Ten-year-old Rae is home alone in Aussie author Emily Spurr's moving debut novel, A Million Things. Kids are canny creatures, and Rae is one I am sure will be remembered.

Reading Like a Writer: A Guide for People Who Love Books and for Those Who Want to Write Them is just what it says it is. Francine Prose is a highly regarded literary authority who knows her stuff, but isn't stuffy. She also knows how to poke fun at herself.
