It looks like there's an error in the key. UK has 14 books and New York (US) has 13. Not sure what went wrong but I will fix it in the next update.

the map looks great!

That's super, Laura! I was thinking Greenland as well but couldn't find it on the lists, so was unsure if you had it as a separate location.

Australia The Forgotten Garden
Nebraska Fangirl
North Carolina The Best of Me
Alaska Julie of the Wolves
Norway Icefall

It was actually really weird, Marina. I realized it wasn't on any of the lists either. I guess according to this software it isn't part of North America and when I Googled it, some consider it part of North America and others Europe or even just totally autonomous. I guess it was my education for the day :)
I have been using a site called mapchart.net
It's a bit finnicky but I'm starting to learn all the little quirks.

All books read so far with their locations (excluding those without a distinct and clear location):
The Death of Mrs. Westaway: UK
A Man Lay Dead: UK
The Woman in Black (by Leslie Ford): Washington DC, USA
Death by Dog Show: Massachusetts, USA
The Secret of Chimneys: UK
The Westing Game: Wisconsin, USA
The House That Pinterest Built: California, USA
I love the idea of seeing at the end of the year how many countries we get and which ones end up surprisingly popular. I'm sure the US and the UK will be well represented, but it will be fun to see where else we "travel".

Carmen, I didn't love that it's considered all together either, especially since so many books are set there.
There isn't really a great option for me to break down, aside from doing a separate map that breaks down by county. That would be this one: https://mapchart.net/uk.html
I'm thinking that one is the other extreme and a bit too detailed.
But open to others' thoughts, who are more geographically adept or familiar with the area.

One of the most beautiful things about reading is its ability to take us to new places. A truly great author can really make a setting come to life.
In our first read-a-thon of 2019, our teams focused on this "travel" and comments throughout the years have made it clear that we all love to map out our reading destinations. So our newest group project is going to be an ongoing challenge, focused on conquering the world map
Those of you who have been around for a few years probably remember our group reading map that ended in 2017. This will be a bit different (and simpler).
Object:
Read at least one book set in every country around the world, as a group. We will also be breaking down the United States into each of the 50 states.
Rules:
Only submit the books you've finished reading.
Sure, a lot of us have our reading plans solidified for the whole year but plans have a way of changing even when we don't expect them to. It is for this reason we ask that you only submit books that you're done reading. This way, if that book you thought you'd love ends up in your did-not-finish pile or you take an unexpected hiatus from the group, we won't have to go back and try and figure out what was or wasn't read and we can end the year with a pretty accurate record.
Around the Year Challenge books only, please.
We're going to limit this to books for the main challenge to keep things simpler. But you can include a book that is set in fantasy or space settings, just like in 2016.
Fiction, non-fiction, doesn't matter.
As long as the book is set in or references events that occurred in a location we can include it.
Multiple locations:
We know that there are many books set in multiple locations. If that is the case, pick one as the main setting. If you feel like there is no distinct main setting for the book (like road trip books, time travel books, part fantasy world/part real world, etc.) then feel free to post your situation here and we can troubleshoot as a group.
What do the different colors mean?
If you see that someone else has already mapped a country, submit your book anyway. The map color will get darker as we read more and more books set in a country.
Special requests? (i.e. more specific locations) Post them in the comments! This is a new project and, as always, we're open to feedback.
Notes:
- A country will be ✔'ed off once someone reads a book for that country. Once a country has 10 readers, this will become a ✘, similar to roman numerals (i.e 11 = ✘✔). Once it has 100 then it will become a ♦.
- You may notice that the key is missing numbers. This is simply because there is no country currently with this number of books. This will change as books are added.
