Austin George | 4073 comments Savita, aren't you nominating anything? I will second books once you confirm.

message 1552: by Savita (last edited Sep 28, 2023 05:46AM) (new)

I have already seconded two .

message 1553: by Savita (new)

Savita Singh | 1885 comments Oh no , the link to The Omen isn't working correctly , so I will remove it . The correct book is the one by David Seltzer .

message 1559: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4073 comments Maybe we can start polling tomorrow?

message 1560: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4073 comments We should broadcast the poll so that more people will vote and hopefully join for the discussions. Em or Gorab, will you be kind enough to do it?

,

Black Echo is worth the effort :-)

Prosenjit Paul (bangaloredbong) | 80 comments Question- In this poll can we recommend books we already read long back and want to revisit?

message 1563: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4073 comments Of course, Prosenjit, you can recommend books that you have already read as long as you will read it again.

Okay , thanks, Prosenjit , I will go ahead and nominate The Black Echo , by Michael Connelly, 482 pages .

message 1565: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4073 comments You have seconded 3 books Savita. You can pick 2 out of the 3 you have seconded.

message 1566: by Savita (new)

Savita Singh | 1885 comments Austin , Prosenjit didn't nominate The Black Echo , he only suggested it . I have nominated three books ( The Omen , Foreign Body and The Black Echo ) , and seconded two ( Agatha Christie and Psycho ) . Is that okay ?

message 1567: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4073 comments Yes, it's ok. I see that you only nominated the book.

Austin George | 4073 comments Thank you Em

message 1570: by Austin (new)

all these or should I add Savita's nominations too?

message 1572: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4073 comments Em, those 9 books are seconded books. You can can second one more book if you want as you had seconded only one book. No need to include nominations in the polls. Only seconded books are to be included.

Will send a group message today.

message 1579: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4073 comments Thank you once again, Em.

message 1580: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4073 comments I am still undecided on what book to vote for. Spoiled for choices. That's why I am yet to vote!

message 1581: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4073 comments I see that all 5 people who voted have chosen different books. The introduction of more voters will give a more clear picture as to which book will be the winner.

message 1582: by Savita (new)

Savita Singh | 1885 comments Yes , that's true !

I am in! I haven't been following the group threads for a while.
Now that you mentioned it, Savita, Catching up with Classics group sends members monthly reminders on polls and group reads, etc. It keeps me updated on the activities of the group to an extent.

We are glad to have you here!

message 1585: by Savita (new)

Savita Singh | 1885 comments Hi , Anjali , so glad you have joined too ! I hope we all select a nice BOTM, and also continue to do so . We have had some nice reads before , though , of course , each and every month may not come up with a good book . I just hope the tradition will be restored .

message 1586: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4073 comments Yes, Savita. Hopefully a start to new beginnings.

Savita Singh | 1885 comments Austin wrote: "Yes, Savita. Hopefully a start to new beginnings."

👍
Quite a few people are taking part in the polls . Hope we come up with a nice book !

message 1588: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4073 comments It's like the group came back to life again! Hopefully, whatever book gets selected is interesting enough. At the moment it looks like one of the top two books will be the eventual winner.

message 1589: by Anjali (new)

Anjali (anjalivraj) | 89 comments I like all the nominations for this month. If the Cabinet of Curiosity gets ahead, it might take more than a month for me.

message 1590: by Prosenjit (new)

Prosenjit Paul (bangaloredbong) | 80 comments 45 votes as of now, with top 3 tied at 9 each!! Dead heat!!

message 1591: by Prosenjit (new)

Prosenjit Paul (bangaloredbong) | 80 comments I am hoping The Secret History or Dark Places win, really want to read those. Have read the rest, would be fun to re read something like a Psycho Along Came a Spider or Jurrasic park though

Yes, broadcasting can really bring in the crowd. Hope the participation will be significant as well, whichever book is chosen.

Have to thank Prosenjit because he's the one who proposed the idea of nominating books , and of course our moderators for giving us full support ! 😊

message 1595: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4073 comments Anulekha would be the happiest person now. Both the top two books were her nominations :-)

Austin George | 4073 comments Anjali wrote: "I like all the nominations for this month. If the Cabinet of Curiosity gets ahead, it might take more than a month for me."

Even I would take close to a month to finish it. It's worth the effort though. Agent Pendergast is like a modern day Sherlock Holmes. Expect smart conversations, science, archaeology etc. Pendergast books are very good but largely unknown to the Indian reader.
