Is she on GR? I have a feeling we are a good fit for bookfriends. ;)"
I agree! ;) :D

That's understandable :)
I mean, I joined just last yr and I'm 25. And trust me, if this was face-face interactive group with meetings and stuff, you folks wouldn't have heard from me for quite a while excluding the occasional nodding :D

Aaaand I finished Jurassic Park! It was an exciting read. Had me wanting to see the dinosaurs for real!

but, I'm glad you're here and voicing your opinions. its the first step.

Sure.. the grandeur is what makes them standout! but probably will be a blessing in disguise if the dinosaurs can do everything that the book and movies say it does!!

Thanks Leena. True, it just takes time for some people. Many times parents slightly look down upon their kids with regards to reading fiction/novels. I'm glad that your teen is having fun with her books. :)

I finished Loveless and so loved it. it was heartbreaking and yet delightful to read.
half-past mark in Namiya and I must Japanese authors really know how to write an engrossing magical realm.

Yeah, understandable and with so many books in the tbr pile, it helps to be hesitant sometimes.
And *high five*
Glad that you liked 'Loveless'. I don't usually pick romance as the mainplot unless I'm specifically looking for cheese or light reads. But, 'loveless' seemed very interesting and I guess it has more to do with identity than romance; so I had to add it to my ever growing tbr shelf.
Yeah, do you think we somehow connect with Japanese writing because they're not out there in our radars and so we like the writing, it feels different wrt approach & technique compared to the west? Not that it's not good otherwise, because I had great time with the ones I read recently.

That's what I plan to do right away. Watch them 1,2,3 and those reboots. Maybe the movie will feel different this time. Gotta watch'em all!

what!!! you don't read romance? Let me recommend The Wall of Winnipeg and Me, an absolute fav of mine. yeah, that's me trying to turn you into a romance reader. ;P lol
I think around 2015-17 was the time when I read mostly fantasy and it's subgenres. Reading YA/Romance, I didn't read that much. One of friend recommended me this author and I just fell in love with her in the first three books that I read by her. And after that I never looked back, I keep on exploring the genre and it's subgenre. I think it is also one of the reason that I crossed 100 books each year since 2016. They are kind of moodmaker for me. :)
I do connect with the style and morosely thinking why don't I speak/understand the native language because no matter how much the translator tries, there are always things that can't be translated. I think all this would be so beautiful in the native language. And not only Japanese, I feel this every time I read a translated work and like it.

If romance popsup in fantasy, I don't have any issue. I just roll with it. But reading a book where romance is the main genre, now that’s not very common for me.
I will definitely look into the book you have recommended. All your recs till now, have worked well for me. So, this might as well. Yes, I know what you're trying to do!!! ;)
I also agree with the translation aspect. Like when I read Russian works (I liked the few, I read so far), I wonder if I could read the Russian language, I might have loved them even more.
Similarly, when I was reading The White Tiger a couple of years ago, and then remembered it had won Booker, I was very surprised because how in the world did the Booker panel understand all of these Indian references. Do they actually take lot of time, refer to guides and then rate books?
So makes perfect sense, we might not get 100% of it due to the native references as well, even if the translator does a good job, such things might still fly over our heads.
And I thought it's only Leena who's a romance junkie. :D

The Bone collector is on my list as well.
I have not read Out, yet. But from what I have heard it's good and has an unusual approach with regards to story. Let us know, how you find it. I'm contemplating picking it up this year.

Recursion 5/5. I was hooked from Page 10. I could not stop.
The Silence of Bones the author sets up an excellent atmosphere, picturesque scenery & set in 1800s time Joseon/Korea.

Yeah. :) Added both of your recs in my tbr. Thanks!

And I have to read Recursion! It's right up my alley.

The Queen's Gambit, my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Really enjoyed both of them. Neither of them were long. Quick, easy reads.
Bookworm - totally agree with you about the translated work. Have you read Latin American literature? that's also very good.

Oh wow! It does seem crazy. Will plan so that I can avoid bunking office; Also can't risk my mind getting messed up before work. :)

Webnovel - Gets published only online. EmLo, do correct me if I'm wrong.
And how do you guys read multiple books simultaneously?
Leena, your currently reading shelf is out of the world! So many books!
I can't go to another until I complete the current one. :)
@Nathan - Rocky has a robotic voice, it gave him a distinct identity, and it was so cute. Really warmed me to his character.

As she said they are published online. One or few chapters at a time.
I know am going to hit a block sometime soon, so making up before it.

I understand. For me, block is sometimes just in my head, like a slump but most other times it's due to work. And I have making up to do for the past few years too. So, yeah, long way ahead. :)
Quick Question - Would you guys consider books in Wattpad, Quotev etc. as webnovels as well? I know, professionally maybe not but just as reads from an online site?

I get what you're saying. I don't usually press next because of that, though.
For example: If A is a mix of B and C (Crawdads Sing, in your case), then often times A might not even have the parts associated with "C" which you didn't like. Maybe it only has the marsh setting or maybe it only has that bias that Kya has felt almost all her life.
And there's a good chance the things you didn't think fit well in C are actually essential for "A". So you might not dislike A, afterall.
And can give it a try, if you seem to like the overall theme/blurb.
I don't usually get bothered by mentions of B and C eitherway.
Like one thing I have noticed is every time a mystery has an isolated island and murder, they link it to 'then they were none' by Christie. So.
I hope, whatever I told made sense. But yeah, I'm an optimist when it comes to things like that. :)
