Just curious what you all think of cover art like Excuse Me While I Cry Ugly? I am in love with these. Like them better than pictures of people and places.

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments I love the covers even for the The Yearbook. why do you think we are buying physical books - to ogle at the covers.
The colours and the layout of the cover is fantastic,. Older books are being republished with newer more contemporary looking covers. so Heyera are looking fab. Just beautiful looking books.

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments The fact that these covers don't have definitive face features to identify as real people make them even cuter. Suits for romance genre. :)

message 404: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments personally I beleive GIVING YA an outer cap limits the books. I just love them and at times they are definitely better presented than those that are just A without the Y bks.

message 405: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments and Georg is a teenager. what teen appreciates anything they've got ?? its just what they don't have that's rubs them in.

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments Agreed. I recently found some treasures in middle-grade category. Referring to Anne of Green Gables. I have a feeling your daughter will like it.
If you have time, you can buddy-read it with your daughter, provided she's also interested. How cool would that be! Maybe you guys are already doing that with some of your common books :)

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments Finished the Exit strategy. Enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next one.

Thanks! It was a short read.

For a sec, I was like Beau? who? Then your next message cleared it up. Nice picture! Some historical group challenge?

Leena, you changed your name!!

message 412: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments My identity crisis - Beau Brummel was an iconic regency dandy who single handedly changed how men dressed. He was supposed to be elegant and handsome. So yeah..for some time atleast. That's a beautiful painting by someone....

message 413: by Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) (last edited Jan 17, 2022 06:38AM) (new)

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments That's nice. I legit thought you were on a historical fiction challenge in another GR group where the picture and name would correspond to the period you're reading. In your case, 1800s & UK & France.

I too thought him to be some book character who impressed you enough to borrow his name for GR profile. :)

message 415: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments I've been considering changing my profile for some time now, but nothing clicked

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments I was thinking the same. Looks like cartoon bookworm is here to stay for a while since I can't think of anything else.

message 417: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments Ikr. Its just so hard and then you come across all these others with oh so cool dps and i just go green. Maybe thats my next dp - green patch.

message 418: by Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) (last edited Jan 17, 2022 07:17AM) (new)

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments Haha. Green patch sounds cool!

I have so many books in series. This is why I gravitate towards stand-alone books more. Good news, most of the below series are completed.

Anyway, I'm posting them here, so I'll be compelled to give these preference.
1. Dune - I know, I have to start.
2. The Fifth Season - The cover, the GR summary, everything looks awesome.
3. The Dark Forest - Since I recently completed the first one and I liked it.
4. Network Effect - Next up in murderbot series
5. Anne of Avonlea - Not sure if I'm ready for teen Anne.

Change of plans. Before I jump back into sci-fi, something caught my eye and that's Malice. It's a mystery and it'll be my first Higashino.
Thanks to @EmLo who's reading another of the works by the same author; that's how I found Malice.

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments Finished Malice. Enjoyed it.

message 425: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments I just tried to finish a really bad "historical" called The Pink Mutiny. Still finding my sanity....I'm so traumatised. its disrespectful and coarse, worst of all its an ARC.

message 426: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments I've started Bone Collector (finally!). along with The Spinster by Tess Thompson.

message 427: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments I finished The Orange Girl and I really liked it. there's an Innocence about it, that was refreshing.

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments @Leena - Ah! mystery. I have bone collector in my tbr, as well. Will get to it sometime this year. Looking forward to your views about it. :)

message 429: by Leena (new)

message 430: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments I'm halfway through Jurassic Park. Though I've already seen the movie, reading makes it more suspenseful.

message 431: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments I never thought of reading the Jurassic Park. hmmm

message 432: by Austin (new)

Austin George | 4073 comments Leena you should read it, if you are into science fiction that is. It's been more than 17 years since I read it and I plan to read it some day.

message 434: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments nope not a sci-fi reader. let me take a chance on it though- I'll try it soon

message 435: by Visalakshi (new)

Visalakshi (vishu-potter) | 231 comments You should try it! even though it falls under the sci fi category, it is not too much... like Hyperion.
It makes an interesting read , the way they explain certain things which weren't in the movies

message 437: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments you are voracious. are the worlds books safe with you ? oh Bookworm?? :):):)

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments Haha...They're definitely safe. Atleast, some are. I'll be leaving almost all of the historical romances since you're devouring them already. :) :) :)

I have an issue, I cannot read multiple books at once, so if I start one, I have to be done with it before moving onto the next (yeah, slightly strange & obsessive trait ).
Another important reason is currently I have lesser work load, so good chance for me to get my fill of books before work becomes hectic again.

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments Thank you Book worm for the historicals you saved for me.

message 443: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments oh Em, she's also loved Excuse Me while I ugly cry.

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments haha.
Yeah, covers and GR summaries are sometimes far more interesting than the actual content.
Hope you have a good time with the mystery. :)

true.

Just wanted to ask does the description where they call a book a mix of so and so book really pique your interest? or put you off if one of the book you did not like?

Like I didn't like Where the Crawdads Sing and whenever I read something is on the lines of that book I automatically press next.
