Shade started to tuck into the nuggets, his creator definitely agreeing that fries are pretty bad when they are cold, and whatever you do, do not warm them up in a microwave. Luckily the nuggets weren't quite as bad cold. When he was finished Shade watched a little bewilderedly as she sat and lent against the wall, then it seemed as if she was going to go to sleep while sitting against the wall. He raised his brows, even he didn't do that... He tore his gaze from her and hauled himself to his feet. "Mind if we use your shower? The only way we've washed ourselves has been through a tap for the last week or so." He said. He wasn't exactly that modest, modesty had been completely whipped out of him.

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Kim was safer if she slept like that. I have it from the foster homes. No one could sneak up on you, and though you were cornered you were actually able to react better to defend yourself if someone tried something. She was lucky but the worst she had ever experienced was bullying from the other kids. But the horror stories and as she grew older and into more of a woman made her incredibly guarded. “Feel free, mi casa es su casa.” She said slightly tired lately. It was a saying that she heard a lot in America. Why Americans who didn’t understand a lick of Spanish would make a Spanish saying something that they always did was beyond her, but she liked it.

Shade immediately raised a brow, for he understood the Spanish saying straight away, since Spanish was actually his naive language. “You speak Spanish?” He asked, surprised. He made his way over to Hush who stood up as he made it to him. “Where is your bathroom then?” Shade also asked.

message 54: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Kim blinked. She hadn’t expected him to respond that way. Did he know Spanish? Well if he did. “muy poco español.” She smiled. “Mostly from television.” She pointed to the small hall. “ just passed the kitchen on the left.“ There really wasn’t much else to this apartment they had already seen the majority of it there was the living room dining room which was one area the small kitchen closet the bedroom which was Hardly a master and the bathroom.

((*Very little spanish*))

((Thanks for the translation that time XD))

Seemingly for the first time Shade’s mouth quirked a little. “Ah, well I won’t try to have a conversation with you in Spanish then. Spanish is my first language.” He wondered if she realised he was Argentinian. “You seem to know a fair bit from learning only from TV though.” He nodded as she directed him to the bathroom and guided him towards it. “You go first then buddy.” Hush gave him a timid look and Shade smiled and gave him a light nudge. “It’s alright, I’ll be just outside the door the whole time.” He reassured him and finally Hush slipped through the door and shut it. Shade knew he had a spare pair of underwear in his pocket at least, and he’d just change back into those same clothes, they weren’t too bad.

message 56: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Kim began thinking that they came with nothing because they had nothing. And who knew How long they had been like that. She got an idea. “Well you can feel free to speak to me in Spanish, might help me learn it better.“ She said with a smile, considering the rocky start she was being awfully friendly to him. However that’s just how she was, didn’t do to hold grudges just wait someone down and made them useless blind. She covered her mouth as she yawned. Man was she saw her, she really shouldn’t of done all that running. Not to mention the leaping and climbing. But she supposed it was for the best. She lowered her head and thought but then begin to drift off unintentionally. However her phone vibrated which made her eyes shoot open. She took a calming breath, because everyone knew when you woke up from just falling asleep it was kind of a jarring experience. Her eyes widened as she saw the number on it. “Hello, this is Kim.“ Her tone professional but really not much different from how she normally talked there’s just a slight lilt to it. “ there is, you do? I’ll be right there!“ Despite being tired adrenaline powered her now. “ I got to go.“ She directed that statement more at shade into her self. “ I was called into work, someone called in on their shift. She pulled out the spare key and set it on the makeshift table. “In case you leave. For some reason you need me I work at the 24 hour diner around the corner.” She hurried towards the door. This is just what she was waiting for, this would be huge. And it was perfect timing a real godsend!

Shade, as Kim had probably realised, was not an unreasonable person, since she was helping them he was making sure to treat her decently, even almost kindly. This night however was a test, to see what she would do. He wouldn’t be sleeping much tonight, but rather be poised to protect himself and Hush just in case. Though he had a strong gut, and his gut was telling him it would be okay, but after what Hush has been through he was not taking any chances. He would do anything for Hush. Shade guarded the door of the bathroom while Hush took his shower, and he was glad that the boy turned out to not be too quick, but rather taking his time a bit. That said he wasn’t ages, and Shade soon heard the water stop running while he stood there watching as Kim seemed to drift off, yes perhaps he’d maybe been keeping an eye on her. Then her phone rang and suddenly she was leaving and Shade widened his eyes. “Uh... okay...” At least it was good she had a job, she seemed to really need the money so he supposed he should be happy for her. “How long are you going to be?” He asked out of curiosity.

message 58: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) “ it’s 9 PM now, I’ll be back around 3:30 AM.” She moved to the door and unless he stopped her she would go out it. And fortunately it was only a six hour shift but, six hours was better than no hours. And this was just the time she needed to go. The boys would have a very nice surprise when she got home. And her smile show just how excited she was. Most people hated the shift she always asked for it.

((Only six hours gosh! I’ve never worked beyond 5 1/2 and that’s bad enough XD))

“Okay...” Shade said in reply, again a little bewilderedly. But maybe it would be better for him and Hush to be alone in here for a while, or maybe not... Shade wasn’t sure what Hush would be more comfortable with, falling asleep while the woman wasn’t here and knowing Shade would make sure all was fine when she returned, or falling asleep while she was here and accounted for. Come to think of it Shade now had the thought that what if it was fake... But her phone had rang, and she hadn’t used it since meeting them so how would someone know? Unless this had been orchestrated since before she’d walked into the alley and met with them. He sighed, trying to settle his paranoid thoughts. He’d just stay awake until she returned and see how it went. He indeed didn’t stop her as he watched her go out the door and then he went over to it and locked it, not to keep her out but for security. He then returned to the bathroom door in time for Hush to emerge. “She got called into work so she’s gone now we have the place to ourselves. Are you alright with staying out here while I shower? You can keep an eye on the door for me yeah?” Hush looked a little nervous but he gave a nod. Shade tapped him comfortingly on the shoulder and then entered the already steamy bathroom to take his own shower, meanwhile Hush sat on the floor right in the middle of the room with his knees drawn close to him, clearly so he could manage to hear if anyone came up to the door outside over the running of the shower, but still fairly close to the bathroom in case he needed to dart in and warn Shade of someone approaching.

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) ((Haha, well I don’t know what typical hours are in England but here in America a typical workday is 8 1/2 hours 30 minutes off the clock lunch.))

Kim arrived in record-breaking time which of course please the manager he told her how much she appreciated her coming in at the last minute and said a few choice words about the employee who has been increasingly unreliable. Kim just said that she was glad to help and it was probably just something they could avoid. Even though she could’ve taken the opportunity to trash mail for Tryon get favor towards her that’s just not the type of person she was. So she work the evening shift. And then came what she called Magic hour, at 2 am. Any food they had already made or set out cannot longer be served any guests. Kim had cleared it with the boss that she could take trashbags and other things if she needed to and he could just charge her paycheck for what she took. So she loaded up a huge garbage bag full of food. While cleaning making sure that no one threw the bag away fortunately she was the only one on duty. There was a reason most people didn’t like the shift because it was a good time for someone to try and rob the place. But it wasn’t like diners were known for making the big bucks and besides, this was the time when they got rid of the food. I said she was the only one on shift she could get it, she had tried to do that before but the other employees just mocked her, And through the stuff in the dumpster anyway. No one will be able to stop her this time though, and it wasn’t like she was stealing do you have permission to use the bags and the stuff is going to get thrown away anyway why let it go to waste?

Someone 3 AM rolled around she started setting up for her relief unfortunately her relief didn’t get there till 4 AM. She didn’t get mad she took her bag a little paranoid that he was going to throw it away because he was one of the ones. And he might’ve attempted it to but there was a look on her face that made him back off. She hurried back home tired from the shift and all the cleaning scrubbing the grills and all of that. Not to mention having to lug this huge back around but she wasn’t complaining!

It was about 430 when she got her door and unlocked it. She was having a hard time keeping her eyes open and she was breathing heavily exhausted. Presuming nothing stop the door from opening she walked inside with the huge trash bag not really looking for any people or anything but moving straight to the kitchen to get the stuff in the fridge.

Of course since nothing happened Shade’s shower went by without issue, and he savoured the shower, there was almost nothing that made you feel so much better. When he was done he rejoined Hush by the wanted the boy to get to sleep so he had guided Hush to the bedroom Kim had said they could have, where he reassured the boy again and again that he’d make sure everything would be alright and keep an eye out for Kim’s return, and make sure she didn’t bring trouble. He then shifted into a snow leopard and had curled up his fluffy warm body by Hush’s side. He always slept in animal form, mostly for Hush’s sake, of course for warmth since they had lived in the streets and the softness of his fur helped settle Hush into sleep. Despite his unease Hush soon fell asleep, even if he did sleep a little fitfully. Every time he stirred and mumbled or whimpered in his sleep Shade laid his furry head over him, nuzzling him gently to comfort him. He stayed awake, despite his tiredness he was an expert at staying awake. But then he heard the noises of Kim’s return and his head poked up, as she was unlocking the door and opening it Hush sadly got woken up too since he was such a light sleeper and he inhaled sharply and tensed. Shade nosed him reassuringly before rising to his feet and still in his snow leopard form he nosed open the door which he had kept half open to listen to sounds and approached to check on Kim, fur bristling slightly but that was the only sign of his mild suspicion.

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Kim hadn’t even paid attention, in truth it might seem that she was a bit careless, but she had proven that she wasn’t want to be underestimated she was a trained police officer she knew how to handle a gun but she also always kept a knife on her person. If anyone ever attacked her, well they wouldn’t take her down easily that’s for certain.

However she had a huge trash bag in the kitchen and was loading things in various containers. For a moment her large smile faltered and she realize just how much this is going to probably take out of your paycheck, but she shook her head and reminded her self this much food was worth more than what he would take out of the paycheck for the containers! She was lucky that the cook was a really nice guy, he was the one that told the manager he should hire her because she had ‘a sweat demeanor’. The man was late 40s, married and a partner, Though he didn’t act like it. Mostly because the manager had more say unless he decided to pull rank and he didn’t try and do that often to rock the boat. She could tell that he had made a little bit extra on purpose, the leftovers that they had thrown away before work this much not any of the night she had tried to go in and get it should manage to salvage some from the trash a few times sadly the rats figured out when the food was coming and she couldn’t beat them to it. This time however it was victory and there was enough for the three of them for days maybe even a week or two!

It was so much she actually almost couldn’t get on the fridge by the time she had put in the last container and had the empty trash bag she was leaning on the door is very heavy. She closed it and move towards the bathroom she needed a shower. Not once taking notice of the snow leopard, or anything else.

((Lol))

Now Shade was more than bewildered. He just stood and stared at her as she unloaded, what he realised was food, from a trash bag and into her fridge. Not once did she even glance at him. Finally when she was heading to the bathroom he padded over to her before shifting back, cocking his head at her when he was human again. “Uh Hey?” He called to her, kind of wondering if she was deliberately ignoring him or just really hadn’t noticed him. “What was that about? You didn’t... get food out of the trash did you? Because trust me we’ve gotten sick from that enough that honestly no food is better...”

message 64: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Kim’s head snapped up. Eyes wide as she looked around, appearing a bit startled. It would be clear that she was exhausted. I just question though she shook her head and smiled brightly again. “No, that’s why I got excited that I got called in. If you work the shift you can grab all the food that they’re going to throw out before they throw it out. The manager let me back it up and that’s a pretty big score!” She didn’t speak very loud, mostly because she was too tired to. But her enthusiasm was definitely genuine. “Sorry I woke you up. I’m just gonna hit the shower.”

At that Shade widened his eyes and then looked back at the fridge as if doing a double take. Then he even seemed to smile slightly. “Really? Well, how lucky.” He then smirked and gave her a little wink. “Perhaps your bad luck of me stealing your lunch turned into good luck for that to happen.” He said. After all he was kind of a believer or that, or had been. He wasn’t sure as much now. He shook his head. “Don’t worry we would have woken up anyway. I’ll go get Hush back to sleep. Though I might see if he can eat first, any small snacks in there? I won’t take much.” He asked for it wasn’t exactly great to have something heavy at this time of night especially when you were going to go to sleep but Hush hadn’t eaten since lunch.

message 66: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) “Or maybe because I invited you here?” Kim joked, but then yawned again as she tried to answer. “Sorry, help yourself.” She smiled again, turning i’m going into the bathroom. She was the sort of person who did believe that you reap what you sow. And she did something that she felt was right and now she had food for all of them. Even if they eat in excess, though she was going to be careful because, she didn’t know when she would get a whole like this again she didn’t want her stomach to be always hungry so she was still going to try and eat smaller amounts. She got into the shower running the hot water putting her palms against the wall letting the heat relax your body sooth her stiff neck. She drifted off, while standing up.

A decent amount of time would pass, and at one point about 10 minutes later the water stopped, but the. Started again. After another five minutes Kim came out, a towel wrapped around her head she was fully dressed with her clothes were soaking wet. She apparently had taken a shower with her clothes on. Her eyes look wide an alert. She moved to the fridge and mumbled that she found it. “There it is.” It was coffee That they had made and she poured some into a few to go cups. It wouldn’t be as good since it wasn’t fresh but, she downed it. Even though it was ice cold and shaking her head, and hustling trying to warm up.

The side of Shade’s mouth tilted upward. “Yeah maybe.” He cast another glance around the apartment, checking. But it truly seemed all was okay... She hadn’t brought anyone to seize them at least. So, he turned back to her. “Thanks again.” He said and then went to the fridge as she disappeared into the bathroom. He found two small custard tarts and brought them back to Hush in the bedroom. Unfortunately Hush was still feeling pretty anxious after the worry of Kim’s return being safe, and after a couple of bites and difficult swallows he shook his head, feeling a gag coming on. Shade sagged, but shrugged so Hush knew it was alright. He let him know that it seemed like he was truly going to be alright, that they were safe, and that Kim had even brought home a load of food so they’d have plenty to eat. Hush didn’t make much of a reaction, but he at least looked somewhat less troubled. Shade ate the rest of Hush’s custard tart, but he felt guilty eating the other one too, so he left it out on the kitchen bench for Kim if she wanted it. Then he returned to Hush in the bedroom, laying down with him on the pillows and blankets so his back was pressed to him. “Come on buddy, back to sleep.” He murmured softly, stroking a hand through Hush’s hair soothingly. Hush curled up and closed his eyes, and Shade wanted to do all he could to help him to sleep peacefully.

So, he started to sing. The lullaby he tried to sing to Hush every night. It was something his mother as used to sing to him as a small boy in Spanish, and at first he’d sung it to Hush in Spanish, but for his sake he’d translated it into English, thinking it would help more. Continuing to stroke Hush’s hair, Shade sang softly.

Darkness, of white you can
Through the sadness take your flight
And become the wings that pierce the veil
Spreading strong and true tonight

Brought into the light at last by the cold exposing sun
Through the mirror, night reflected, miraculous to see,
Disappearing fake light,
Be reborn a true light,
Within these eyes

Breaking the wounded light
We reveal the other side
Where despair embrace
They share a face
Which will light both you and I

Braving the dark of night
Piercing through the painted white
Cut it all away from yesterday
Till a new era's in sight

Unlock the the heart within
Let it spread its wings and soar

Rising up in flight
Through the night of white
And fly on forever more...

Surprisingly Shade actually had quite a nice singing voice. It likely carried over to Kim as she exited the bathroom, after she’d grabbed her sadly cold coffee. When Shade has finished the song, he went ahead and shifted back into a snow leopard, pressing his warm and fluffy body against Hush, whose breathing was already starting to steady.

((Song is actually True Light by... D.N. Angel apparently wow I only just looked up the band XD Let’s just pretend it’s a song his mother sang him in Spanish and that he translated XD))

message 69: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Kim slowed seeing the custard tart and smiling. It really was nice of him. She had begun to write a note and put it on the fridge.

It said:

Working double shift, came back to bring the food and shower. Wont be back till afternoon.

Help yourself to anything you want.

She hadn’t closed the door all the way and was about to leave when she hears the singing. It was beautiful, for some reason her eyes began to tear up even. Shade really cares about Hush. Everything he did was for him it seemed. She sighed softly and with the grace of a cat, gently closed the apartment door the rest of the way and locked it. It wasn’t easy to be quite with that door, but she managed. Locking it softly, she went for a jog.

It was a trick she had learned when working as a police officer and doing school work. Took a nice hot shower to relax and soothe the muscles, then take a freezing shower for just a few minutes to awake in the adrenaline, the coffee in the custard would help because one would give her fuel and the other will help make her alert and since her clothes are wet she went for the jog to keep the adrenaline going and help her clothes dry. Fortunately it wasn’t cold outside by the time she finished her jog and was mostly dry it was time for work. So she went to the diner undressed in their makeshift locker room to switch into her uniform which she kept work. Begin her shift. And unless someone decided to come visit her she wouldn’t return till about 1 PM looking even more Zombified than before.

((Ooh I have an idea now hehe XD))

Since Shade wasn’t asleep he heard Kim go out the door when she did and he lifted his head confusedly. Very carefully he shuffle away from Hush and then got up and headed to the door. She’d left again? He padded around the apartment, eventually just managing to see the note on the bench and he shifted back to his human form to read it before pursing his lips to himself. But he did smile ever so slightly at the part about helping themselves to anything. He exhaled through his nose and made his way back to Hush, shifting back into a snow leopard and curling up next to him again. But he still didn’t sleep sadly, he’d even pushed the door open on his way back so he could keep an eye on the front door. It was a long night for him, keeping his eyes awake, only dozing off every so often, but then jerking awake by his thoughts and worries. But finally the morning came, he and Hush basically woke when the sun was up. Hush finally stirred and woke and Shade pushed himself up next to him, stretching out in his leopard form before shifting back.

“Come on buddy want some breakfast then? How does cereal sound?” He said lightly and Hush gave a little nod before looking around warily. “She’s gone, working again.” Shade told her as he went and got the cereal for Hush, only putting in a tiny bit of milk since Hush pretty much preferred it dry. He decided to just eat the cereal as well because he didn’t want to use up too much of Kim’s food. He couldn’t believe she was working yet again with how tired she’d seemed last night, never mind Shade wasn’t paying attention to how tired he was now... Nevertheless an idea struck him. And once they were finished their breakfast Shade grabbed the spare key and they exited the apartment. They were about to do what Shade found he had quite a talent for.

((I don’t want to do another huge post so have Kim be walking home and be going through the Main Street if that’s okay :) ))

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) ((Yeah! ^_^ ))

Kim was limping along. She could hardly keep her eyes open, oh man was she tired. She managed to stay looking nice and alert till she left and she even talked to her boss and he said how good of a job she did and that he would remember she was someone he could count on. She smiled at that thought, maybe she could get more hours. True it would leave less time to her detective stuff, but she had to survive too. She was walking down the street, taking the tips she had earned and getting a gallon of milk from the store and a loaf of bread. Now she could dump the out of date stuff in a bowl for alley cats. Holding her grocery back she continued on towards home. Never had this seemed such a long walk.

((Ooh boy! XD ))

((Okay I suck at explaining this so I’m going to be kind of vague about it but oh well XD))

Shade had made sure to lock the apartment of course he was no fool. What he and Hush did was make their way back to their alley, where they kept an old plastic table which had legs that folded inwards, and carried it back to the Main Street, where they basically set up a pretend pop up store. And what took place was some sort of con artist act by Shade getting people to buy whatever it was they were selling, which turned out to be things that had been bought from dollar shops with the tags ripped off and being sold at higher prices then they had originally been bought for, which was of course technically illegal. In fact the boxes at their feet often literally said ‘not to be sold individually’ or some nonsense like that as Shade saw it. He used his charm though to convince people to buy them, saying they were of high quality, made by a family business, whatever lies he could conjure. They were often more focused on him then the items anyway and he ended up making such an impression on him that they bought the items anyway. Likely just as Kim went past, Shade was in a conversation with a man who was saying he was certain these were the same as ones sold at a dollar store and Shade was trying to convince him they weren’t but were in fact higher quality personally made things. The man huffed and said he wanted one to check alongside them and Shade only politely told him that he’d have to buy one for $10 but he was more than welcome to return it if it wasn’t to his liking, but once the man was gone

Shade quickly turned to Hush. “Time to pack up buddy.” He said with a wink and they immediately started to pack up the rest of the items and folded up the table, making a quick retreat. They wouldn’t be there when the man inevitably came back to demand a refund. Big deal, it was $10.

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Kim had been so dazed she had walked past before she heard Shade’s voice. “Shade?” She asked sounding weary indeed. She looked at the table and the items they were boxing up. “What are you doing?” Former cop here, even tired knew something fishy was going on. Though they didn’t know that did they? They hadn’t seen how she ran, leapt nor seen her pull a weapon. Luck for Shade she was so out of it, she might be able to get sidetracked.

((Sorry she's tired but do you mind having her not like what they're doing? XD))

Shade looked up and jerked in surprise to see Kim. "Oh, hello." He said quickly, though managed to keep quite a neutral tone. He swiftly finished packing up the table, carrying one of the boxes of stuff under one arm and the table under the other, while Hush struggled to carry the two remaining boxes but the boy remained grim faced and didn't complain, verbally or non-verbally. Shade signalled for them to keep walking and he picked up the pace before finally answering Kim, shrugging lightly. "Just making a little extra money that's all." He said with a slight smirk.

message 79: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) That response left Kim with more questions than answers. “And where did you get those things, may I ask?” She moved with them, still carrying her grocery bad. That man was arguing with him, and then they packed up after he left. That was fishy right there. “And what was that man complaining about?”

((Oh she wont XD ))

Shade honestly didn't give a damn if this was making him a conman, besides perhaps she'd understand by the end. He gave a shrug. "Bought them from the dollar store. Don't worry they're not stolen." He told her with a smirk since he assumed that might have been the problem she was having with it. "Oh and that man was just some pretentious stuck up character who said he wanted to return the thing if it wasn't to his liking. But unfortunately our business is closed for the day." He gave another light shrug.

message 81: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) In truth that actually had been Kim’s first thought. She had hoped it wasn’t the case and it was an ally to say it was a little relieving to hear that, but as someone who’s worked to up hold the law, it grated her nerves. “That’s wrong.” She said flat out. “That’s racketeering, you can go to jail if someone caught you or if that man remembers what you look like.” She sounded very serious a little angry and a bit concerned. So he might not of noticed the concerned.

message 82: by Lexie (new)

Lexie | 756 comments Mod
Shade raised a brow. "Rack-e-what now?" He said before scoffing and waving a hand dismissively. "Well I won't get caught." He said simply, clearly not caring that he was apparently breaking the law. It seemed merely a stupid law in his opinion. Though maybe Kim would definitely not be as happy with him apparently doing that...

message 83: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Kim huffed. “That’s what the prisons are full of, people who said ‘I won’t get caught’. It’s wrong too. You’re lying to people. I understand needing to make money, but people get hurt when others break the law.” She couldn’t believe how little he cared?

message 84: by Lexie (new)

Lexie | 756 comments Mod
Shade rolled his eyes. "Oh come on this isn't hurting anyone. People lose $10, big deal! Besides I'm just trying to help. Three mouths to feed now I thought you'd be happy if anything." They had likely made it back to the apartment by now if that was where they were going.

message 85: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Kim was a little bit taken aback by what he said because he said three, he was counting her? She figured they would probably try and leave after a few nights or something get tired of her or just you know you guys wanting to be on their own not that they weren’t welcome to stay longer… However she shook her head. “Yeah and you thought I was someone who can throw away money too. You can’t judge a book by its cover.“ She reminded him, and then Main forward as they walked into the apartment speaking quietly so no one would over here. “ besides. There’s right and there’s wrong, and if people start saying that it really doesn’t matter because no one gets hurt or the consequences aren’t that big of a deal then what happens is all the rules start getting bent and everything looks gray and then without a sense of right and wrong it becomes every man woman and child for themselves and that only causes people to get hurt with that selfish attitude. I know you’re looking after Hush, how you get your results is just as important as what results you get.”

message 86: by Lexie (new)

Lexie | 756 comments Mod
Shade grunted in response to her first comment, he supposed she was right. But he gave her a look at what she said last and he narrowed his eyes and scoffed. "Oh please. People do that even when there is a law and 'a sense of right and wrong'. It doesn't make a difference. There are still sickos who still don't care what they do to others, they simply they're free to do whatever they want for themselves." He growled, almost stomping inside the apartment when she'd locked the door. Hush even gave her a sidelong look before scurrying in after Shade. Shade patted him on the shoulder and told him to go to the bedroom. He gave Shade a look, hesitating before he did so.

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Kim walked in after him closing the door behind her not locking it, but turning to face Shade instead. She took a breath and then spoke, calmly but clearly. “And what kind of world would we live in, if everyone decided that since a handful of people commit evil and don’t keep the law then we should throw all laws out the window? In the foster home that I grew up in I had boys of various ages and sizes all try… To do things to me.” It seemed difficult for her to say. “I had people attack me, steal from me and lie about me. I could’ve decided I have the rught to give back what I was given. Instead I looked out for the others that weren’t like that, and stood up to the bulkies and wicked hearted people. In a world where the good people dont find nother way, no matter how hard, it just leads to more pain and suffering. We should stand up and stop the bad people, not become like them...”

Shade's breath hitched. At what she said... about what the boys had tried to do to her. He swallowed and looked back at her, an apology on his lips, but then she went on. And unfortunately what she said next suddenly caused an explosion of anger, like a volcano erupting. "Become like them?! I have become nothing like them!" He roared. His fists were shaking. He clenched his jaw. "All I'm doing is taking a few dollars. And damn lucky I'm not giving back what was given to me. Or rather, taken. Forgive me, if I do not f****** care about swindling a few dollars!" With that he spun around, but instead of going into the bedroom because he didn't want to scare Hush, and well, it was her bedroom, he went into the bathroom and slammed the door shut.

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Kim tensed, and wether he knew it or not, she had reached for her knife, but didn’t draw it. She was subtle, like always, an instinct. She flinched when he slammed the door. Maybe she should have gone and apologized, because she genuinely felt bad with how she had upset him and wanted to make it right. However given the fact that she experienced a few other things while in the foster home one was when people got angry violence typically in sued, she was never hit, but that’s because she learned to hide quick. Even though she was a adult without even thinking or processing she went into the closet. Fortunately it was empty. She was quiet about it sat down and kept her hand over her knife. Closing her eyes much like a child would. As if if her eyes were closed they couldn’t see her. It was funny that she didn’t react like this as a cop because when she was in uniform she knew what she was supposed to do, but these are people she invited into her home and in the home she really wasn’t very good at defending herself if it had been invader she would’ve attacked them but the situation was unique and she had a programmed response. Despite how exhausted she was her adrenaline was pumping a mile an hour her heart was beating practically outside of her chest. Her eyes started to tear up, all the same reactions that she had 10+ years ago.

((Aww Kim :( ))

Hearing the tense silence after Shade’s yelling Hush cane wandering out to find the apartment seemingly empty, though he knew Shade had only gone to the bathroom. But where had Kim gone? Had she gone to don them in now? Warily Hush looked around, at a loss for what to do.

Shade leaned over the sink in the bathroom, trying to get his breathing back under control. He still felt like his blood was boiling. Like them... how dare she even think that?! Swindling a few dollars was not at all comparable to what THEY had done, to him but even more so to Hush. He wasn’t hurting anybody. But... maybe he had fallen into the mindset that what he did didn’t matter, that he owed nothing to people of the world because they had already taken so much from him, conning them had been easy, he hadn’t even felt guilty, because for once he had finally been doing the taking. And maybe he had indeed fallen into that human instinct. Wanting to take something back when stuff had been taken from him. Even if it hadn’t been as much, yes he could argue that, but in the end, he realised Kim was right... What if someone did that to him now... He could say to himself he probably wouldn’t fall for it, but hypothetically. Not everyone in the world was as sick as those people, Kim had proven that... And good lord now he’d just yelled at her in her own apartment, where she had invited him and Hush in to stay. He sighed and quickly pushed off the sink before opening the door and stepping back out into the main area. But he didn’t see Kim anywhere, only Hush, looking about uncertainly.

“Kim?” Shade called. He glanced questioningly to Hush and the boy only shrugged and shook his head in the negative to show he had no idea either.

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Kim hated it, hated her weakness. The voices...

Cry baby, cry baby. Baby gonna cry!

Aww, scaredy cat, scaredy cat!

She grunted softly as she abandoned her knife and out her hands over her ears to try and shut out the words, silence the horrible and cruel noises, mocking, cursing. Tears burned her eyes, as involuntary tremors moved through her arms.

When she worked with the police, they never knew. Never knew how she could spot the abused kids so easily. Just like she had noticed Hush. When people are older they mask it better, but the younger the easier for her to tell. Or did they know that she would leave work, go home and cry to sleep. From the horrors, the pain and the people she couldn’t help. She wasn’t cut put to be a cop, she was too ‘soft’. She couldn’t take the constant onslaught of pain, injustice and suffering.

Now she didn’t even have to have an abusive person, she did it to herself, mentally. Attacked and destroyed herself. Over and over again, until she was a mangled mess. This was why she avoided people, they wouldn’t like the real her, how could they? She was a mess, disgusting and weak...

“Kim!” Shade called again. He was getting a little worried now. Had she left the apartment? And what if... Maybe she really hadn’t liked what he’d done. He bundled Hush close to him, suddenly protective, and looked around warily. He wasn’t sure what to do. Hush seemed to sense his unease and started to tremble slightly. “It’ll be alright...” Shade soothed him before moving warily towards the door, and perhaps, towards the closet Kim was in, but that was unbeknownst to him.
He called again, one last time. “Kim! If you’re here! I’m sorry!” Shade swallowed. But if she wasn’t here... “I don’t think she wants us here anymore Hush... Come on, let’s go.” He said aloud to the younger boy and they made for the door.

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Kim was in no state to respond, but as he shouted so close to the door she jumped, hit her head against the back of the closet wall, then something on the shelf above fell and clattered down beside her. No way they could miss that someone was in the closet.

What had fallen? Apparently an old picture frame, the glass had broken on her right hand protecting her head, and despite the glass cutting and embedding in her arm she only gave a small cry still covering herself. The warm blood trickling down her arm.

Go away, go to the forest, the place, near a water fall. Safe. Happy, warm. Safe, happy, warm.

That was what she did, left the moment, retreated into her imagination. Tried to survive. Still trembling.

Shade and Hush jumped that time when the clatter sounded in the closet, followed by the shatter of broken glass. Shade and Hush exchanged a glance before Shade quickly stepped forward, frowning, and opened up the closet door. And he widened his eyes, for there sat Kim, huddled like a small child, eyes shut and hands over her head. She kind of reminded him of Hush in that moment actually. “Whoa, Kim?!” Shade said urgently. He bent down so he wouldn’t be looming over her, for if his treatment of Hush was any indicator, he did know how to be soothing. “Kim are you okay?” Good lord has he done this...?

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) It was childishness, she knew it. However it was a comfort mechanism. It was all she knew to do, hide. She was typically good at hiding. She would try and take attention of the other kids, the little ones. Make them mad at her then hide. It was like a cruel game of hide and seek. Unknowingly as she had retreated further into herself, she had begun to mutter.

“You don’t see me... you don’t see me...”

Sadly poor Shade may have triggered this reaction, but he was in no way at fault. It had been a perfect storm. She was too tired, it was in her own home, She already felt a desire to help them, and she just couldn’t seem to process. She broke down. She tried so hard to be positive, to encourage, to be happy despite the struggles. It was sadly the straw that broke the camels back.

The only thing she was aware of? Her arm hurt, but she couldn’t remember why, had she been hit?

Shade widened his eyes further. Kim didn't even respond, and only started to mutter to herself. He was even unnerved by the very thing she said. Hush gulped and backed up, disturbed. This likely wasn't helping for his anxiety either. Shade had no idea what to do. He knew he shouldn't touch her, that might only cause an even worse reaction. And he was starting to feel horrible. Had he really done this. "Kim? Kim please, can you hear me? Hello?" His tone shook with worry. "Kim I'm sorry. I didn't mean to... Kim?" He was just so bewildered, he didn't know what to do...

Kimberly Brown (guardianwolfkim) Amazingly, he picks the right word. Sorry, I may not of made sense to other people. However the word sorry communicated to her fault was elsewhere. She quit talking, gave single shake and a shuddering breath. She didn’t move fast, however slowly should begin to become more aware of her surroundings as if waking from a dream… More accurately nightmare. She shivered as if cold, and slightly began to lower her arm before she went from the glass that was still embedded in Her right arm.

Shade unfortunately wasn't exactly sure how much he was helping but at least she stopped talking. Then when she lowered her arm he noticed the glass and focused on that. "Kim your arm." He murmured, frowning before he rose. "Hold on." He said and he darted to the bathroom and returned with a roll of toilet paper which he started to rip off in small bundles. "Can I get it out or do you want to?" He asked her, thinking she may not want him to do it right now.
