PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments Atlantic Winds by William Prendiville is a novella about teens growing up on a small Canadian island. Reviews range from TERRIFIC to meh. That means: try it - you may love it!

PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments I think Aussie author Heather Morris's popular The Tattooist of Auschwitz, based on a true Holocaust survivor story, has probably introduced a new generation of readers to the reality of Hitler's Nazis.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9973 comments It's a while since I read any Nicci French books (I do have a bunch of them in my TBR), but when The Lying Room appeared on NetGalley, I thought I'd grab it. It's a murder mystery, I didn't expect to laugh so much.

I didn’t realise that. You say it can be read as a standalone, but should it be? Will I enjoy it more if I read The Twentieth Man first?

Andrea, there are some spoilers for The Twentieth Man in this one, and the main characters in In Darkness Visible first appear in that book, which is an excellent read too, so if you plan to read both, then definitely in order, but there's enough recap that you won't have to. To answer your question: probably....

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9973 comments Thanks to Sapere Books and NetGalley for this anthology of Christmassy tales: Midwinter Mysteries: A Christmas Crime Anthology. Of the 11 stories, of course I think the Josef Slonský one is the best, but then I am biased: Josef Slonský is my favourite Czech detective. The rest are excellent little bites of other series, so I gave it 5★s
