message 153: by Bhavna (new)

Bhavna Alke | 5 comments I also just read Animal Farm by George Orwell. I was initially thinking of including it in the category of book with 1 million reviews on Goodreads or 2 word titled book. since, I want to read other books under those topics Is there anywhere else it can be fit into?

It is so difficult to make such decisions about books :(

I'm using Becoming for a book recommended by a celebrity you admire (it was recommended by both Oprah and Barack Obama).

It could also be used for:
• A book you meant to read in 2018 (I definitely meant to read it last year)
• A book about a family (even though it's her story, it's also about her family)
• A book that makes you nostalgic (if you're nostalgic for the Obama era)

Diary of a Young Girl - A book with at least one million ratings on Goodreads, A book published posthumously, A book about a family

I am using Killers of the Flower Moon for the "own voices" prompt. Have not read it yet so cannot comment where it would fit for any other prompts.

Thank you! I think I'll slot Diary of a Young Girl into a book about a family.

I have several options for the own voices prompt, so I'll at Killers of the Flower Moon there. Then I can just pull what feels right at the time.

I am using The Name of the Wind as "a piece of clothing on the cover" - in my copy the cloak is basically the only thing visible :-D
"Killers of the Flower Moon" would also fit the "astrological term" - moon - and "plant" - flower
"Discovery of Witches" - happens on a campus, university, college
"American Gods" - mythology
I would say "Hidden Figures" fit the "happens in space" category, in a way, even though most of it doesn't happen in space
"Origin of species" have plants in the cover

It is going to be a movie, just not 2019

Thanks so much! I'll definitely be using some of those placements!

message 162: by Cendaquenta (new)

Cendaquenta | 718 comments I don't think Killers of the Flower Moon would qualify as an Own Voices book. Own Voices is defined as a book about a main character from a minority/marginalized/etc. group, written by an author from the same group. For example, a deaf author writing about a deaf character. Flower Moon is about a minority group, the Osage, but the author himself isn't Osage.

Loosely... set in space? It mentions "galactic court," so if you interpret that as space?

Turn Right at Machu Picchu has plants on the cover if you look closely, so it would work for prompt #6.

The Shelf: From LEQ to LES: Adventures in Extreme Reading could fit prompt #8, a book about a hobby, since reading is definitely a hobby, especially in this book. :)

John Dies at the End - would fit prompt #25, debut novel, as I believe this is the first novel that David Wong wrote.

American Gods - does fit mythology, but I would also argue it could fit the imaginary creature prompt, as well as the plant on the cover (one edition does have one):

American Gods by Neil Gaiman

Name of the Wind - I personally wouldn't have a problem using it for the college or university prompt, since a large portion of the story revolves around his experience at university. Although, it's not 100% of the story by any means, so it's up to you how much you want to stretch it. Personally, I'd count it.

Frankenstein does include a wedding

And maybe Dracula could fit in the amatour detective prompt? Eventually they find out he is a vampire, and stuff... IDK

I used Winter Loon for the book about a family, since it's a coming-of-age novel that focuses on a boy's relationship with his parents and grandparents.

There's "inspired by myth/legend/folklore" and "featuring an extinct or imaginary creature". (There's a lot of fairytale references and a unicorn shows up for several chapters.)

Yes, it would. Darn, I have that space taken... :-(
I think I'm going to put it in "two word title", or just not put it anywhere, I mean, it's possible to read book outside the challenge :-D

I would think so. I've only seen the movie and read the synopsis of the book, but there are definitely alien creatures involved.

I have already been reading outside the challenge as well :) Or, adding it as a second to a specific category. Mine is a book I already own and a new ebook/audiobook/book that I get this year. We will see if I read 2 for each category though!

Big Little Lies is recommended by multiple celebs (Reese Witherspoon is the one that stands out for me). It is also about multiple families, it is 3rd person omniscient, but changes to different character POVs.

Milkman is about a family, there are multiple other books titled "the milkman" that you could read for 2 books with the same title, a category last year was borrowed/gift from a friend if you use previous PSRC category.

It says "show," but it sounds like a game/puzzle, so it could fit in that category. Also, it is her debut novel.

It's a while since I read it so I may be wrong but I think [book:The Casual Vacancy

Depending on your point of view, maybe a book you meant to read in 2018 (when it was published) or a book you think should be turned into a movie (based on the plot description. Or a book about a family.

Hope you enjoy it! I read it last year and thought it was good.

I used it for my "plant on the cover" The Death of Mrs. Westaway for this version (trees around the house). I couldn't think of any other place to put it either.

Congratulations :-)
Not really... it's a memoir, not a novel based on a true story, though you could treat it as that.
Did you plan to read it 2018?
Do you think it should be made into a movie?
Your favorite prompt from a past POPsugar challenge, like "memoir" from 2015 or A book about mental health from 2018

Mike - it's a bit of a stretch, and I'm sure you wanted to read Bruce Dickinson for "musician" - but Matt Haig made an album. He says he can't sing, his part was "the easy part" (whatever that is!) soooo you COULD say it's a book by a musician.

Mike | 443 comments I can't find a second book with the same title.

The chapters aren't unconventionally numbered, etc.

I'm hoping that a celebrity I admired has recommended it. I'll check the "praises for" section of the book.

Other than that, perhaps I can stretch a prompt like "Set in Space" or "Written by Two Female Authors" because it's my challenge, my rules. :)
