Thanks but mine doesn't, and it's pretty stylish, IMO. :-)
Sherlock Holmes ‒ kootut kertomukset by Arthur Conan Doyle

Though now I am wondering if I get to it this year at all, because I decided to first read the Complete Tales of Edgar Allan Poe, which is almost as long (over 1000 pages). After all Doyle was influenced by Poe, so it makes sense to read him first, and also because I don't actually own the book (it's a BookCrossing book), so reading it will clear my bookshelf, unlike Sherlock...

It seems that every year I plan on reading Sherlock and I never will. Maybe because I know that after it's finished, there will be no more new (to me) short stories to read, only a novel or two, and they were my favourites as a child.

It's very loosely based on true events, but not really a true story, so how much you want to bend that prompt could be possible.

If you read it during winter, you can read it as a book set in the same season.

Cendaquenta | 718 comments Is there anywhere to recommend books that would be really good for this year's challenge? Ex., the book I'm reading now, The Sisters of the Winter Wood, would fulfil about 6 or 7 of the prompts.

Tytti - you could take each novella or story as a separate book for prompts -- same way you take each book in a series as a separate book even if deeply interconnected. I have a volume of several of George Sand's works, and I read one of them for challenge last year, counting reading just that one, not the whole collected works. I also have a collected works of Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, and both wrote long and short works. If I read Cricket on the Hearth from the collected works, I would count that for a prompt even if I never read the rest of the works in the volume.

you could go to each individual category post and mention it? Or just mention it in your weekly check-in (less tedious for you, but fewer people may see it)

Middlesex would work for a book someone is reading on Tv/in a movie. Rory reads it on Gilmore Girls.

Yes, I know, but in the case of Sherlock Holmes there are five (or six) separate "traditional" collections of short stories, and about 60 short stories in my book in total, so I could fill many prompts just by using them, and I really don't want to. Also generally I will want to read the whole book if I am to mark it "read", and it would/will mess up my book counter for the challenge (I have one in my own group), because I can really only shelf the book once, so if I can fit all six collections into the challenge, I will have to lower my goal for Popsugar by five books. (I'm not really sure if that makes sense...)

I would personally split them up as they were originally published individually and then if you want a break you've still ticked off some prompts:

Over a million ratings, nostalgic, should be made into a film (the ones that haven't been adapted), myth/legend/folklore, extinct/imaginary creature, family, two word title (Prince Caspian), inspired a common phrase/idiom (The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe).

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1301 comments Nicki wrote: "Becoming by Michelle Obama"

I saw someone using it for "recommended by celebrity you admire", since it was recommended by Barack Obama. If you admire him that is.

Janet (jnabring) | 54 comments Hila Reads wrote: "I just started Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity by Katherine Boo. I'm wondering where, if anywhere, this book would fit in the 2019 challenge."

I have been reading this book for my book club (not this challenge). Maybe it could fit under "own voices"?

A few other thoughts:
- a book told from multiple POVs
- a book about a family

Have you started it yet?

If I recall correctly, the first part of this book takes place on a college campus, so that's one idea.

I posted earlier in this thread about this book and someone suggested the nostalgia prompt, if you are nostalgic about the Obama years. It's what I'm using it for.

Evelien I've just finished my first book of 2019, it was such a quick read and I started reading it in the last couple days of December, The Cuckoo's Calling, Vol. 1 by Robert Galbraith. I was wondering if it would fit the prompt; A book featuring an amateur detective. The book is about a private detective, or is that not amateur enough? What do you guys think?

Tytti | 355 comments Evelien wrote: "The book is about a private detective, is that amateur enough?"

No, private detectives generally take cases and they are paid for it, so they are not amateurs.

Two word title.

I haven't read this but some possibilities could be:
- two word title
- a book with an article of clothing or accessory on the cover (depending on which version you read, the one that came up with your link shows a woman's dress )
- a favorite prompt from a prior challenge (I'm sure there is something in a previous challenge where this could fit)
- a book you think should be turned into a movie (if you end up liking it enough)
- a book revolving around a puzzle or game (this may be a stretch but you could argue that Joan's habit of reinventing herself is like a game to her, assuming this is the case once you read it)

I would say no to superpower but I think it fits the myth prompt since werewolves are mythological creatures.

Not a whole lot for that one! I can't remember what seasons it's set in, it takes place over the course of a pretty big span of time.

Maybe you will think it should be made into a movie.

And "past Popsugar category" is pretty much a wildcard, I'm sure you can find something.

ETA: It's her DEBUT novel!! I forgot about that one :-)

Parts of the book are set in Scandinavia. Do you think it should be a movie? There's always your favorite prompt from a previous challenge too.

Sierra wrote: "Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman"

It's also recommended by Reese Witherspoon, so if you admire her it could work for the celebrity prompt too.

I've only seen the Netflix movie (and by that I mean I've watched it five times!) so I am not sure how close it is to the book. You could count the pageant as a hobby. Otherwise it could be a book about family or, depending on the edition, clothing/accessory on the cover

The Great Believers could also be a Book you think should be turned into a movie (Amy Poehler just optioned it for a TV series). And All You Can Ever Know could be a Book about a family.
