Sara I suspect our best bet for finding books with a million ratings is to look at past bestsellers. For instance, I just looked up Gone Girl and it has nearly 2 million ratings.

Other ideas:
A Game of Thrones
The Hunger Games

What other super popular books can you think of that have enough ratings?

The Chapter Conundrum (Stacey) | 404 comments I found a listopia for this

I think personally I'm going to tackle Divergent by Veronica Roth

Kerry (euphemy) | 210 comments Here is a goodreads link, if it's ok for me to post: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/3...

I'm going to read To Kill a Mockingbird

message 4: by Anabell (last edited Nov 10, 2018 03:39AM) (new)

Anabell | 355 comments I changed the settings on my "want-to-read" list to show "num ratings" and then sorted from highest to lowest. So I can pick from my TBR list.

These are some of the books with over 1 mio. ratings:
To Kill a Mockingbird
Nineteen Eighty-Four
The Help
Little Women
Memoirs of a Geisha
City of Bones

message 5: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ellsworth (sanukipityreads) | 160 comments I have read most of those on that listopia but am going with To Kill a Mockingbird because I added it to my list when it won the PBS best book of all times (or something like that).

message 6: by El (new)

El | 196 comments I'll be reading The Fellowship of the Ring

message 7: by Alisia (new)

Alisia (4thhouseontheleft) | 58 comments I'm going to use Divergent, since I already own it and keep putting off reading this series!

message 8: by Denise (new)

Denise | 374 comments This one is going to be challenging for me. I have read most of the books on that Listopia list that was helpfully posted. The books I didn't read, I already know about and don't want to read them.

I'll come back to this one.

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) | 896 comments Ooh, The Help qualifies! I picked that one up at a yard sale recently, and will probably also use it for the ATY goodread's choice prompt, since it's nominated in the 'best of the best' category this year.

message 10: by Katy (new)

Katy M | 960 comments I own Angels and Demons so I looked that up. It qualifies.

message 12: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 190 comments I might try to tackle Lord of the Rings with this one! Never read them, and as a fantasy lover, its a pretty big fail on my part!

message 13: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (bia_cratos) | 2 comments Since I've read just about all of these books with a few exceptions, I'm going to go with the Game of Thrones series!

Jamie, you can then use a later one for your book with an imaginary creature (dragons).

message 15: by Shannon (new)

Shannon | 0 comments The Hogwarts house editions of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban are due next year, I believe, so I will be reading that while listening to the related episodes from the Binge Mode: Harry Potter podcast.

I've got over 1500 titles on my TBR list, and only ONE of them has more than one million ratings. I guess this is the year I finally read Life of Pi

message 18: by Leticia (new)

Leticia (leticiatoraci) I'll be reading The Giver

message 19: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Fonger (vivian_fonger) | 32 comments I'll read Fahrenheit 451.

message 20: by Marianne (new)

Marianne | 64 comments Plan to read Eragon

message 21: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey | 94 comments Im going to do The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1) by Stieg Larsson

message 22: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1301 comments I have Lord of the flies waiting for me.

Anna Breen | 15 comments Jamie wrote: "Since I've read just about all of these books with a few exceptions, I'm going to go with the Game of Thrones series!"

You'll be able to check off other prompts, most of these books have weddings in them. Last year I used this series for many prompts.

message 24: by Leona (new)

Leona (mnleona) | 244 comments I have Angels & Demons by Dan Brown on my shelf.

message 25: by Tracy (last edited Dec 02, 2018 09:49AM) (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 608 comments The Golden Compass has over a million

message 26: by poshpenny (new)

poshpenny | 1916 comments Looks like it's either

to kill a mockingbird
water for elephants
1984

message 27: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wendyneedsbooks) | 131 comments Wow, I've read most of them. For me it'll have to be one of these:
- Little Women
- The Alchemist
- The Perks of Being a Wallflower
- The Lovely Bones

message 28: by Lindi (new)

Lindi (lindimarie) Will this be the year I finally read Jane Eyre?

message 29: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 608 comments poshpenny wrote: "Looks like it's either

Loved them all, Especially To Kill a Mockingbird. And 1984 is fascinating to read now in 2018/2019!!

ooOOOOHHHhhhh.......*runs to put books with over a million ratings on Nadines shelf*

Yea, let me know how you feel about The Life of Pi.....😬

message 31: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 1756 comments I guess I'll have to dust off The Time Traveler's Wife. I have read a lot of them already and most the others just aren't appealing. Maybe there'll be a massive bestseller that everyone must read next year...

message 32: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 95 comments It seems I am stuck with one of the Brontës. *shrug*I already own Wuthering Heights for some reason so I might as well give it another try. It's short, right? Maybe I could watch the Semaphore Code version from Monty Python and call it a day...

message 33: by Rachael (new)

Rachael | 136 comments I'm going to cheat slightly, and read the illustrated version of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling. The normal version has over 1 million ratings, I haven't checked for the illustrated version but I imagine that does not

message 34: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) From my TBR I have two: The Perks of Being a Wallflower or The Alchemist. I think I'll probably go with The Alchemist since I've seen it recommended a few times and it has the most ratings of the two.

message 35: by Chrissi (new)

Chrissi (clewand84) | 238 comments I've never read To Kill a Mockingbird ... and I'm an English teacher. It's one of those you "know" about but haven't ever been forced to read (by an English teacher) or picked up.

Time to get on it.

hahahaha that good, huh?! I've obviously been avoiding it all these years. I better make sure I've got some good back-up choices ready.

message 38: by SadieReadsAgain (new)

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 767 comments As I try to use my TBR as much as possible for this challenge, this pick was easy. I only have one book on either my physical or Kindle shelves with over 1m ratings, so Eat, Pray, Love it is.

message 39: by Tina (new)

Tina (trwriteratwork) | 42 comments I consulted quite a few lists for this one because all of the books listed that I was interested in and own, I have already read. I keep looking at my Harry Potter books (which would fit other prompts as well) so we'll see. I think I might finally read The Book Thief though, I have been putting it off for a while.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

message 40: by Rachelnyc (new)

Rachelnyc | 186 comments I've avoided a lot of classics up until now and am making a concerted effort to read some so this is a great prompt for me.

I'm going with one of these:

Pride and Prejudice
Wuthering Heights
Jane Eyre

Kym Hamer (kymhamer) | 157 comments Leona wrote: "I have Angels & Demons by Dan Brown on my shelf."

This is the first of Dan Brown's books that I read and it remains my favourite of all of them!

Ha - me too!

message 43: by Kenya (new)

Kenya Starflight | 985 comments A lot of the most-rated books on Goodreads are either ones I've already read (like the Harry Potter books) or books I really have no desire to read. Good to see The Book Thief is on the list, though...

message 44: by Milena (new)

Milena (milenas) | 1198 comments I highly recommend The Book Thief for those thinking about it. The audiobook was really good.

message 45: by Teri (new)

Teri (teria) | 1554 comments I've read a lot of the books on the Listopia list, and the rest were on my TBR list. So it looks like I'll be choosing from the following:

The Lovely Bones
The Kite Runner
Eragon
Water for Elephants
Life of Pi
The Perks of Being a Wallflower
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
The Golden Compass

I should read The Life of Pi as it is the one that I already own, but I've been avoiding it for awhile now. Just need to get it over with.

That's brilliant!

Edit:
Just did it... I literally only have 3 books with over a million on my TBR :/

Great idea Anabell! Thanks for the tip! :)

message 48: by Chinook (new)

Chinook | 731 comments I admit, I’m not super excited by this prompt. There are plenty on the list that I haven’t read and would probably be okay with reading, but I feel it says something about my enthusiasm for those books that they were THAT popular and I haven’t bothered yet.

message 49: by Linda (last edited Nov 17, 2018 08:00AM) (new)

Linda Varick-cooper | 20 comments As somebody else said, most of the million ratings books are either ones I read, or ones I know I don't want to read.

I was hoping that after being chosen number two in the PBS Great American Novel program, Outlander might find its way on that list. I've been watching its ratings. In the past week it has increased by 1000. However, that probably won't be enough since it's only at 670,953 at the moment.
