Hooray!

And - that is another read through done. Excellent work, team!

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments Welcome, Allison Ann! Great to have you aboard....

Ladies, Sookie Stackhouse is one of my very most favorite series! Guilty pleasures run deep -- I also love Stephanie Plum! I enjoy all Charlaine Harris' books & have read them all -- except Aurora Teagarden & Lily Bard. I'm working on them, too. I just got my hands on the first in her new series, An Easy Death! I'm going to start as soon as I finish this week's books. So excited!

An Easy Death (Gunnie Rose, #1) by Charlaine Harris

The book isn't available anymore. Sorry. I will look for something else

Gtk Lauri! I really enjoyed the first Stephanie Plum and you just reminded me that I have yet to pick up the next one! 😲
I think next year I need to focus on finishing series’ that I have begun

I do have The Black Cauldron (The Chronicles of Prydain, #2) by Lloyd Alexander if you can't find anything else. It is super short but more than 160 pages.

message 357: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments The Black Cauldron works too - it meets the minimum word count required for children's books.

Wow I read that one so many times as a kid.

Allison Ann | 1408 comments Added Silver Borne (Mercy Thompson, #5) by Patricia Briggs to the tracking sheet. Only works for B and D I'm afraid.

message 359: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 4247 comments I just found that Unholy Ghosts is a U book and has the word cauldron in it. Also, I have a witches genre book that I added for next week.

That's ok. It is tough when we only have 4 letters to play for. I'm glad the round is only a week. xD

Great - I'll add it to week 2 of our tracking sheet. Then we have something planned for all the bonuses next week :)

Question for the day

What's the last TV show you watched?

For me, that was last night and we are just getting around to finishing Episodes. We only have one episode left and that is the end of the series :( It has been a lot of fun and I've gained a lot of respect for LeBlanc through this show and how he can poke fun at himself

We also watched an episode of Trust which is interesting, but gees louise that John Paul Getty was a miserly piece of work!!

Chava | 1522 comments I found Martha Mayhem and the Witch from the Ditch
It's 192 pages, but it's a kids' book. I can't find it on AR book find. Is it a go or not?

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6397 comments News Breakfast on the ABC. I have it on in the background to get the day's news whilst getting my adult son with Autism ready for his day.

The audio is less than 4 hours on audio, so it wouldn't count for the challenge (160 pages is generally 4+ hours)

Allison Ann found a book with Cauldron in the title, and Lexi has one with the MPG covered so we are all ok for the bonus books now for week 2.
So really I think for week 2 it is just about making sure we have U and O books as they are the more difficult letters

Oh that's a nice way to start the day. We don't watch news here as my husband finds it too depressing. I tend to read the news online now

Chava | 1522 comments Question for the day

What's the last TV show you watched?
We don't own a TV, haven't owned one for 7 years. We found that our kids don't do so well with a TV in the house. They get moody and irritable. We have also banned iPads and computers for videos (still can be used for educational purposes of course).
I watch what I can find online. I'm currently in season 5 of Scandal and I enjoy How to get away with murder as well.

Sweet, that gives me something to work with :)
I've found some. Can I just start with one and make my way through or do you want to know them beforehand?
We've had a medical emergency that I have to deal with. I might not be able to get more than 1-2 books done a week because of it, sorry.

I'm watching The Gifted right now. Concept is the X-Men have gone underground & all these mutants are coming forward. It's almost like the civil rights movement in the 60s with the mutants trying to get equal rights with humans....

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments I'm midway through my 2 blood books! I have another possibility... Is our deadline Friday or Saturday? I started a whole bunch more on Saturday that I can use/finish whenever we need them. I got a book for every letter in cauldron! Woo-hoo! I just need to settle down & read like a good little girl now.
Still slogging through IT, too. I am determined to finish this year, but it won't be by Halloween...

message 380: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Wonderful - it's good to get lots of "o" books! We need so many.

I'm slogging through my "blood" as genre book. I hate it. I HOPE I can finish it today just so I don't have to dread it anymore :)

message 381: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments I finished The Eat Right 4 Your Type the complete Blood Type Encyclopedia by Peter J. D'Adamo while eating Halloween Candy.

Lol I hated it (the book not the candy) so much - but a lot of that is that I've done a lot of research on diet/exercise things that work for me, and....according to that book I'm all wrong! They really all are healthy diets he advocates - I just don't like the strong claims of the only way to do things. Well and all of the ending chapters on how it can basically prevent or cure everything that ails you - from gastric upset (which my son has bad gastritis and his dr basically has him eating the opposite of what the book recommends) to cancer, aids, chrones, infertility, etc. I'm sure I wouldn't be nearly so cranky though if I had read it as a dieter looking for some structure to what I eat :)

Well, rant over! :) And now I'm feeling slightly guilty about the Halloween candy, but....I'm on maintenance, and it was good :)

We don't need to know before hand, but if you get to Saturday and think you will finish it before the week's deadline, plus give us the heads up so that we know to expect it is coming

Allison Ann | 1408 comments Thanks for reading a crappy book Suzanne. At least it is over and there was candy to make it more palatable. IMPORTANT
About the end of week 1

When week two begins, the spreadsheets for week 1 will be locked. That means that Suzanne and I need to get everything in order on our spreadsheets PRIOR to the deadline. So... for our team.. your deadline for posting read books for week 1 is 9pm Lisbon time, Saturday.
That gives Suzanne and I an hour to double check everything. PLEASE DO NOT FINISH ANY BOOKS BETWEEN 9PM AND 10PM LISBON TIME SATURDAY. If you do, we may not see them in time, and they then may not be able to be used for the challenge and that would be sad.!
You CAN read books and FINISH them in week 2 (from 10.01pm Lisbon time Saturday) for them to count for CAULDRON.

Here are the times in some major cities:

OOGIE BOOGIE WEEK 1 POSTING DEADLINE

San Francisco Saturday 3 November 2pm
Chicago Saturday 3 November 4pm
New York Saturday 3 November 5pm
Lisbon Saturday 3 November 9pm
London Saturday 3 November 9pm
Paris Saturday 3 November 10pm
New Delhi Sunday 4 November 2.30am
Manila Sunday 4 November 5am
Tokyo Sunday 4 November 6am
Brisbane Sunday 4 November 6am
Sydney Sunday 4 November 8am
Auckland Sunday 4 November 10am

NOTE: Times are different to the start of the challenge due to the start/end of daylight savings
