My sister can't do audiobooks either. I would hardly read if I didn't listen to books as I just don't get many opportunities to sit down and read... and if I do then it usually has to be textbooks :(

I finished
Our Dark Duet (Monsters of Verity, #2) by Victoria Schwab
which actually ended up as rather disappointing.

On the plus side it is 533 pages and an O so good for points

My husband flew to Cairns this morning (about 2500km away) for the weekend so I hope to knock out some reading! Although I've had an almost-migraine (I get these ones that want to hit me but don't quite) for two days so I may just end up watching some form of escapism TV instead tonight

message 407: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments Can't sleep. Bad for health, good for reading. Added One Good Knight (Five Hundred Kingdoms, #2) by Mercedes Lackey to the spreadsheet.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6397 comments Karen, when I get the "aura" I take two panadols and lie down with a wet cloth over my forehead. It does stave off the migraine for me. Hope you're feeling better soon.

I've got one more to finish Clash of Storms (Legends of the Storm, #3) by Bec McMaster and it has O, L, D and B.

message 409: by Karen ⊰✿, Fiction Aficionado (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 16593 comments Mod
Thanks Lisa. Unfortunately it started yesterday and I was on site with a client so the best I could do was Panadol all day and go to bed last night at 8.30.
Today I was able to lie down after lunch (have my 3 year old the iPad!) and just that half an hour made a real difference.
I only got my first migraine about a year or so ago. Bloody awful. I thought at the time I was having a stroke as I get this electrical pulse down my spine followed by immediate nausea. Totally crap. If I get onto
Panadol straight away it doesn’t move to that level

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments I am just about to crack (finally) open a book. I feel bad barely reading this past week. Just one more week to go then I can read more!

You ladies are doing great!!!!!!

STATUS
With 25.5 hours to go we only need one more O for our 7th read through. Awesome reading everyone!!

As we get closer I'll post what we need, because if you have a book which only works for one letter it may be best to not finish it until week 2 starts. Why? Well the points system works based on the previous word being completed.
So, for example, if we spell:
BLOOD x 7 times
BLO
B
Then we would only get points for BLOOD x 7 plus BLO.

In the meantime - keep reading! You're doing great! I'll be back in around 12 hours with an update

message 413: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Fantastic reading all!

I'll for sure finish Origin before the deadline, and I hope to finish my other book, but if not, it'll be one of my first "Cauldron" books :) I haven't been sleeping well, so much depends on if reading it knocks me out!

message 414: by M (new)

Forever Odd by Dean Koontz
Series: Odd Thomas #2
Finished 11/2/18
4 stars!
Love this series...
Works for O - character Odd Thomas. Odd is his legal 1st name! Also D - character Datura & Danny Makepeace

Forever Odd (Odd Thomas, #2) by Dean Koontz

Could someone please add it to our spreadsheet for me? Thank you!

Suzanne | 5417 comments I'll add it right now.

Nice job Lauri. I keep thinking I should read that book.

message 419: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 4247 comments I logged one that is useful for all letters. I will potentially start one in the morning, do we need any specific letters at this point?

message 420: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Awesome Lexi! Hmm...I think at the moment we're still pretty flexible since we have quite a few books that work for several letters. I think we have books for 2 more "blood"s at the moment, and we'll start working on the next. So maybe BLO are more important than D slightly?

message 421: by Suzanne (new)

Update

13 hours to go for week 1 and we have 8 readthroughs done!

So if you have any books over the next 13 hours, we don't need anything specific, but any books that work for multiple letters are appreciated ;)
Remember there is a one hour period between 9pm and 10pm Lisbon time where Suzanne and I will be checking and logging books, so please don't finish anything during that point just in case we don't see it. It would be best to finish it after 10pm lisbon time and have it count to week 2. Thanks!

message 424: by Chava (new)

Chava | 1522 comments Any letters we are in great need for? I can try to find an audiobook for tonight

message 425: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Chava I think any of the letters in BLOOD would be ok if you end up finding a book :)

And Eunice - great job. I do that a lot too with planned/unplanned books -especially if I plan way in advance. Challenges and life make that initial planning change pretty often :)

message 426: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments I should have two books done before the deadline. One works for all letters and one doesn't yet work for O (but a random character could show up).

message 427: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Thanks - that's great!

message 428: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 4247 comments I will probably not have any more done before the deadline. I went to the Farmer's Market this morning and now have to work on a paper.

Chava, unless there is another Chava, you are in my Gift Exchange challenge group and have not checked in yet.

message 429: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Thanks for checking in, Lexi. The Farmer's Market sound wonderful (although working on a paper does not). Good luck on it!

I finished my last book for week 1
The Case of the Murdered Muckraker (Daisy Dalrymple, #10) by Carola Dunn
It is the 10th book in the series and really was the poorest. But it worked for all of our BLOOD letters so at least is nice and flexible for wheelathon. teehee

Just a reminder to not finish any books for the next 48 minutes :)
If you do, can you post in this thread immediately and PM me so we can make sure we pick it up for the spreadsheet.
I will post again when week 2 starts and you are free to finish books for CAULDRON :)

Circe wrote: "Karen ⊰✿ - I'm a little confused, we can still reading and finishing books and it will counts for the next word?"

That's right. In 9 minutes it can count for week 2. The problem is that if you finish it in the next 9 minutes and we don't have it on the spreadsheet, it wouldn't count for either week.
As soon as week 2 begins, week 1 is locked

Week 1 Oogie Boogie Awards

For being such a great team I thought we should have some team awards! My son had his footabll presentation day yesterday and is so in love with his trophy, I thought I'd give you all a virtual trophie ;)

Special shout out to...
Suzanne! For being a great co-captain, but also for struggling through that word as genre book :)

It was weird -- totally freakier than the first book. Lots of arcane references to voodoo & other black magic. And all pretty accurate! (I went through an occult fascination when I was young...)
I don't know why it took me so long to read Koontz, but now that I've found Odd, I just love him!
