Ooh! I love Killjoys & Firefly was great. Hope they resurrect it. Loved the movie Serenity, too...

It's entitled Return of the Thief so all my fingers and toes are crossed that we finally get back to Gen.

And Firefly, so ripped off that it was cancelled after a couple of seasons. That show had so much potential. Loved Dollhouse also.
Firefly was the best
Oh yes, Dollhouse. And at the same time was that show Pushing Daisies which was great fun. And dead like me. And probably more I’ve forgotten 😂😂

Yaaayyyy! I'll PM you later so we don't drive everyone else crazy! I didn't like Fear at first, either. But I will say this. Give it a chance! It gets waaayyyy better!

What are your character strengths?
You can do the only free, scientifically validated character strength survey here: https://www.viacharacter.org/www
I use this a lot with team and individual development. It is all about finding what is 'innate' in you and your strengths and then developing those strengths (rather than focusing on "weaknesses") to increase your well-being and work performance.
Anyone interested in taking the survey and sharing your strengths? Will be interesting to see what we are as a group.
My top 3 are Honesty, Love of Learning and Hope

I'm going to go take the survey right now and determine if I have any character strengths left :)

My top 3 from the survey are Humor, love of learning, and fairness.
Oh no I hope your son is ok Suzanne!
That’s interesting with your top 3. I wonder how many of us will get “love of learning”?
I’ll post some links later to how you can use the information if you want to build on your strengths 😉

I'd guess that love of learning goes a lot with the love of reading :)

Who knew?
I think choosing reads non-fiction books for fun automatically gets you a love of learning ticket...

So this is one of my favourite resources for character strengths.
340 ways to use
Basically find one of your top strengths, and then use it in a different way each day for a week. It has been shown in repeated studies across multiple countries to increase your happiness and well-being. And who doesn't want that? ;)

Isn't that interesting...
I love the commonalities in the team.

My top 3 was gratitude, teamwork, and love. Wow, kind of didn't expect that, but the ones at the bottom of the list were just as I suspected.
A bit more about VIA character strengths
*The VIA Inventory does not measure talent. So, for example, a low score on Creativity does NOT mean that the person lacks creative talent. Instead, it means that the person does not view creativity as a primary pathway to feeling alive, energised, and self-actualised.
*The VIA Inventory does not measure weakness or negative character traits. For example, a low score on
Honesty does NOT mean that someone is dishonest. Instead, it means that this person does not view honesty and authenticity as part of his or her core, relative to his or her higher strengths. The person may, nonetheless, be honest as the situation calls for it.
*Two of the most important predictors of employee retention and satisfaction are:
Reporting that you use your top strengths at work
Reporting that your immediate supervisor recognises your top strengths. Unfortunately only about 20% of employees think their supervisor knows their strengths
*We can underuse and overuse strengths (think about the appropriateness of humour at a funeral. Or someone who is overusing Kind may come across as nosey ; and underusing may seem unfeeling)
* Strengths can be "hot buttons". Recognising that not everyone does, or even should, share your same sense of dedication to the character strength at the heart of the matter.
E.g. you may have kindness as a signature strength, in someone else, honesty may be higher. A person who offends your sense of kindness by using “brutal” honesty may be expressing a character strength.
If you want to know more about how to develop your character strengths the VIA site does have loads of resources. It is a great tool to have your close friends and family complete too ;)

Question for today
Today was my final exam for this term. Hooray! And seeing so many of us also had "love as learning" as one of our highest character strengths, I thought I would ask:
What is something you have learnt recently?
I've learnt more about worm farming. I've dabbled for a while, but I finally did some research and got some new worms and compost products and I am cultivating my baby worms with glee. Hopefully in a few weeks they will be eating around 1kg a week of food scraps... and then in a few months apparently their capacity will be around 3kg per week :o

I've been interested in composting and worm farming as well but I just can't deal with worms. They gross me out even though they're vital to gardens.
Recently, I would say that an important thing that I've learn is how to request an early release for superannuation (in Australia). I know it's not interesting but I learnt about it at work (medical reception) and I think it's a handy life skill to have.
But, I'm learning new things everyday about the 10 plants that I have growing in my backyard. I provided our mint plant with a big pot to grow in and it looks so good now! It was struggling before. I'll try to use them in herbal or fruit tea or in smoothies
Thanks!
haha. yes they are kind of icky and wriggly, but for some odd reason I quite like them. Maybe because they are just so clever and useful. And they never come in the house (unlike ants, cockroaches... and at our place... skinks!)
Oh that is a cool life skill. I got a financial planner a few years ago as I decided it was time to be a grown up and understand that stuff a bit more. teehee
Mint does grow and grow and grow. You will need to really chop it back, and even divide it up as it gets bigger. That stuff doesn't stop! We have regular mint and also native mint. The native stuff has nice purple flowers and is quite pretty and more subtle in flavour.

I have just (literally last week) qualified as a clinical supervisor for Functional Family Therapy (aka FFT, an evidence-based family therapy program from the USA and used by over 350 teams across the world). It took me 2 years to get there and I am the only one in Australia.

Only a little over a week to Wheelie officially starts... squeal...

I had to read that a few times to understand the sentence. As someone that doesn't drink milk I can't imagine many things worse than a pumpkin milkshake LOL

I don't think a pumpkin milkshake would be that bad. Pumpkin is kind of sweet after all.
I've been studying electric fields and forces the past few days for a test. (Although I think I still flunked it...) Made my head spin from all the integration and formulas.

I'm excited there's about a week to the start of the challenge - yay!
Oh good luck Eunice!
So true Suzanne - what an interesting bunch of things to learn 😎
Only just over a week to go. It will fly by!

I have also attempted to convince a complete stranger to read Murderbot so that was fun.
Last night I watched Wonder. I thought it was actually a pretty good adaptation of the book. There was one point where Julia Roberts peeks inside a box and does that whole “ah” giggle thing of hers and we were expecting Richard Gere to turn up 😂

Oooh! What's Murderbot? I am intrigued now... Someone convinced me to read White Trash Zombie earlier this year & it was hysterical! Keep an open mind.....

The first one is All Systems Red. The second is my favorite but all four are good.

Hey! Could anyone participating in the Popsugar challenge please recommend a book for me? I have nothing for that one or the 'reading a book in a public place'.... No one reads books in public anymore, apparently!

Also, I suggest Murderbot so now you have an excuse to read it this year.
Question of the day-
What was one of the best books you have read so far this year?
I just checked and I've rated 9 with 5 stars this year which is unlike me so I must be getting more generous with ratings. lol.
Anyhow, there are a few great ones there, but I'm going to go with
because it was such an unexpected awesome book. So different from many other books of it's time, Margaret and Helen are independent and outspoken, and quite liberal in their thoughts.
I also went ahead and watched the BBC TV version and loved it

Last year this would have been easy - as soon as I read

This year? Possibly

I finished a couple really good fantasy series this year as well. One series I read all the way through this year was "The Faithful and the Fallen." Very epic fantasy - tons of characters (which made it hard to get into at the start), lots of death, action, and politics.
And for sheer enjoyment
