Marja McGraw (marja1) | 994 comments Right now I'm reading The Night Killer by Beverly Connor. It's hard to put it down to do other things. I really like both of the Beverly Connor series.

Kimmie (thatkimmiegirl) | 100 comments I finished The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins on Friday and Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins yesterday. I had started this series several times and I couldn't get past the first 15 pages. This series came so well recommended that I decided to give it another shot and it did get better. The only thing that really bugged me was how much time the author spent recapping book 1 in book 2. I don't think it was necessary. I have already started Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3) by Suzanne Collins .

Heidi I wrote: "It [Mockingjay] is depressing but in a good way."

You've got that right! I finished the book over two days, starting mid-morning Saturday and finishing late last night, with a few breaks (an hour walk Sat, boys state basketball game [best game ever!], a bit of cleaning...). I was emotionally wrung out last night, especially after the last 100 pages, but loved it. Gave it five stars. Don't want to ruin it for Kimmie, but do recommend she keep Kleenex close at hand. ;-)

message 1407: by Kelley (new)

Kelley (booknerd69) Just started reading The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry. I have heard mostly positive things about it, so I hope it's good. Having a hard time focusing on the cozies I've been picking up lately. too many new ones out, and most are not up to what cozies should be.

message 1408: by Karen (new)

Karen I am readingRift in TimeI read this a few years back and liked it so well, I am reading it again. this book is really Biblical so I already know many would not like it-of which you are going to miss out.I thought i would let everyone know so none get upset if they try and read it.

Kimmie (thatkimmiegirl) | 100 comments I finished Mockingjay on Tuesday. I feel the need to premise this with the fact that I don't like sci-fi novels at all. This is a genre I have no interest in. That being said I enjoyed the first two books in the series but I didn't like Mockingjay. I felt like the main character had changed so much that I could no longer relate to her. She seemed to have lost all her innocence and I couldn't understand some of her actions. I would still recommend the series.

Heidi | 2446 comments Kimmie I didn't know what to think of Mockingjay after I was done with it, but after I read some comments about it in my YA group I decided it was a fitting ending to trilogy due to the harsh world Katniss lived in. It was very different that the first two books through.

I actually really liked MOCKINGJAY. It was very different from the other 2 books, but I believe Katniss couldn't have been any different from the way she was in the book due to the things she had been forced to do and endure.

message 1412: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (fiberfool) | 38 comments I just started Identity Crisis by Debbi Mack Identity Crisis yesterday. I didn't get very far. I'm reading it for the Spring Challenge, but am thinking it won't be a cozy. I could be wrong though.

Melodie I couldn't agree with you more. Katniss went through so much and you definitely see the results of her experiences in the third installment of the series.

Agreeing with Dee and Melodie about Katniss/Mockingjay. Considering how much and what she had experienced at such a young age, it's amazing she was holding herself together at all by end of the trilogy, especially when contrasted against tributes like Haymitch or Annie.

Both are library books, so I need to knock those out pretty quick.

Heidi~ Thanks for the link to the Mockingjay comments. Will have to pop over and read those.

Read this weekend: The Frog Prince by Jane Porter, a chick lit recommended by a good friend of mine. It was...good, but depressing. Or maybe it was just the mood I was in this weekend (did not feel good yesterday). And though I thought the bulk of the book on the depressing side, I did like the ending, and like Porter's writing enough that I will read more by her.

Since this one is on yoga I'm hoping it inspires me to get my butt out the door and to a yoga class.

Rusty I pick up a classics read, a YA favorite, fantasy, contemporary novels or something in historical fiction. Love the variety. Currently reading The Oracle of Stamboul by Michael David Lukas.

I've just finished Steam & Sorcery and I've liked it A LOT. A romance steampunk, quiet, sweet, funny and magical. I hope it's a series.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Yay! I am on hold for the audio for Peach Keeper. I am listening to A Discovery of Witches,"

Is the Audio for A Discovery of Witches good Heidi? I've already read the book twice (!) but I have such an awful long drive two days a week that I'd welcome listening to it.

message 1434: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments I am only on disk 3 (of 20!) but I am liking it so far.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Heidi I wrote: "I am only on disk 3 (of 20!) but I am liking it so far."

Yikes! Will have to try to find it on iTunes and play through iPod - I can't imagine trying to change disks that many times while driving the highway! :D

message 1436: by Heidi (last edited Mar 29, 2011 06:56PM) (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments Pure skill Jennifer! Actually it is only once per day because I drive about and hour total per day.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Ahh... well done! Sadly, my drive ranges anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes each way, so there is often multiple disk changes and even after three years, driving on the 'other' side of the road still isn't as seamless as driving back home was. :D

message 1440: by Duffy (new)

Duffy Brown | 33 comments Trouble is, I get so wrapped up in the book I pass my exit on the expressway. Nothing like a good book to make you late!

message 1441: by Sherry (new)

Sherry | 137 comments I'm not reading a cozy right now; I'm reading David Dickinson's latest Lord Francis Powerscourt mystery, "Death in A Scarlet Coat." I love this series, and one of the things I like best about it is the subtle humor, which is not often a part of this kind of mystery.

message 1442: by Beth (new)

Beth | 616 comments I'm reading Room Room by Emma Donoghue for my book club. I was leery at first because of the subject matter, but since the narrator is a five year old boy, I'm finding the story to be enchanting versus creepy. This is a very well-written book that will keep you up late at night!

message 1443: by Judy (new)

Judy (julianka) | 38 comments Room was the book of the month last month on another club I'm on, but I was just too afraid of it. Right now I've been reading - for quite awhile - The Terror by Dan Simmons. It's interesting but LONG, on my Nook it's 698 pages. When you're used to reading cozies that are usually under 200 pages, that's REALLY long! I'm going back and forth with that and The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie.

I just finished Room. While the first half was intriguing, and necessary, it was sometimes hard going. I found the second half much more fascinating, and could not put it down.

Shay | 408 comments The Peach Keeper, Memoirs of a Geisha, and just starting The Count of Monte Cristo. I always like to have at least one really long book going and a non-fiction (John Adams, right now).

message 1447: by Kimmie (new)

Kimmie (thatkimmiegirl) | 100 comments Over the last week I listened to Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen and The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen . I loved Garden Spells and look forward to listening to it again some time. The narrator really enhanced the story.

I enjoyed The Girl Who Chased The Moon but the ending was just okay.

Thanks to everyone who recommended this author. She spins a wonderful tale. I have The Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen on hold.
