Sukhi (svgoomer) I'm glad to hear Dead in the Family is a little slower. I enjoy action-packed novels too, but there's gotta be more than just a little action to suit my tastes.

Kaye, that's an awesome pick. I hope you'll share your thoughts on the novel with us. Is it really as life-changing as people say it is?

Is that his A Walk Through the Year? It's on my wish list, but I don't have it yet. I've just acquired almost all the Gerald Durrell books & am so looking forward to just diving into them, and then letting my grandson read them -- he loves animals & zoos and wants to be a zoologist when he grows up. I think he'll love Gerald Durrell.

I'll check out those other authors you mentioned -- thanks!

THE HAUNTED SHOWBOAT was the first Nancy Drew book I ever read. I must have been about 7 or 8. When I was in the 4th grade someone donated a whole set of the ones with the old blue covers to my school's fall festival White Elephant sale and my mom bought them for me. I thought I had the world's greatest treasure!

Started Undead and Unworthy by MaryJanice Davidson early this evening, and am already 117 pages in. The thing I love about her writing style is that it makes for a fun, fast read. Having been reunited with Queen Betsy after a long hiatus, I will probably move right into book 8, Undead and Unwelcome next.

I have to admit I havnt read any Nancy Drew before! The copy I have is white with a girl on the front ..It says inside 'this impression 1983' Since I work at a charity shop I will keep a look out now for older copies! I actually started reading the Cecelia Ahern last night.. I am looking forward to meeting nancy!

Caroline | 661 comments Just finished non-fiction Scent of the Missing - by Susannah Charleson. Story of a woman and the puppy she raised to become her Search and Rescue (SAR)dog. It's not a cozy but, if you love dogs, this is great and it's even "mystery-related" in a way because it's about SAR in all kinds of situations. I like animals so I've read Dewey the Library Cat and Wesley the Owl (both true stories of people and animals). I loved all three of these books!

I really liked Dewey The Library Cat and I have Wesley the Owl at home somewhere. Have you read Homer's Odyssey a Fearless Feline Tale, or How I Learned About Love and Life with a Blind Wonder Cat by Gwen Cooper ?

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments I'm reading Dragonfly in Amber (Outlander, #2) by Diana Gabaldon and Magic Study (Study, #2) by Maria V. Snyder right now. I'm enjoying both, but I'm HATING the length of Dragonfly in Amber. She's way way more wordy than I think she needs to be. 950 pages? Really? And we're at, what, 7 books in the series now?

I'm at the point where I'm not sure if I'll pick up the next in the series. If I do, it'll be awhile.

message 468: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments Erin that is exactly why I have not started that series. Too long! If it were like Lord of the Rings, and I knew it was only a trilogy, I might consider it more.

(I am an executive recruiter i.e. a Headhunter so learning more about finding people online helps me in my job--plus anyone who picks this book up will see how much personal info is out there on all of us!) I have two more books to read along the same line: The Invisible Web: Uncovering Information Sources Search Engines Can't See and The Extreme Searcher's Internet Handbook: A Guide for the Serious Searcher.

Melodie - I haven't. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll look for it. Aside from non-fiction, when I'm not reading a cozy, I like Linda Fairstein's Alex Cooper series and Kay Hooper's trilogies about the FBI Special Unit. Both are usually intense and excellent!

Well, I love UF and paranormal romance, so this week I've got a lot of book that I'm very eager to read. I've just finished Beast Behaving Badly (Pride, #5) by Shelly Laurenston and I've got in my TBR Magic Bleeds (Kate Daniels, #4) by Ilona Andrews , Web of Lies (Elemental Assassin, #2) by Jennifer Estep , No Werewolves Allowed (Night Tracker, #2) by Cheyenne McCray and Inhuman Resources (OSI, #3) by Jes Battis . My cozy books will rest a bit.

Oh, I am with you there! I really enjoy her Charleston area books, Janet! We had to spend some time there when Katrina blew through inland. We stayed on Sullivan's Island and I was in 7th heaven wandering the area. Have you read 'Full of Grace'? I thought that one was quite different from her usual writing.

Barb | 40 comments I really enjoy Marion Chesney writing as M. C. Beaton.
Especially the Hamish MacBeth series. The Agatha Raisin series is fun too but I don't like the protagonist as much as Hamish.
And how about Carolyn Hart's 'Death on Demand' series?
She introduced me to so many other authors through those books - thanks, Ms. Hart!

I am about three quarters of the way through Phantom Prey and don't care for it as much as some of his others. If you like the mystery genre have you read Lee Childs Jack Reacher series, or Brian Haigs Sean Drummond or Robert Crais Elvis Cole/Joe Pike series?? If you haven't already done so, check them out and see what you think.

I love all of Marion Chesney's regency romance novels. I read all the series 15 years ago and still love them!

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments I ended up a little disappointed in Magic Study (Study, #2) by Maria V. Snyder , but not enough to say I won't read Fire study. I'm also abandoning Dragonfly in Amber (Outlander, #2) by Diana Gabaldon I want to know what happens to them, but not enough to actually read all of that. Yikes.

So I've started on The Calling by Inger Ash Wolfe . It looks like it might turn out to be a bit grisly in the end, but that doesn't bother me.

I have read Phantom Prey (out of sequence because it looked especially interesting) and enjoyed it quite a lot. Yes, I love Lee Child's Reacher series, and have made a start on Robert Crais' books. Haven't tried Haigs or Drummond yet.

I love Crais' books! Love him, too! He's a sweetheart! And nice to look at!

message 491: by Sandie (new)

Sandie | 10741 comments Yep, Crais is one of those guys who could soak his socks in my coffee - LOL. If you love Elvis and Joe Pike then the Jack Reacher and Sean Drummond books should be right up your alley. Reacher is the strong, silent kick butt and take names kind of guy while Haig's Sean Drummond is a JAG officer who is a bit of a wise guy (but funny). Vince Flynns political thrillers are good too. I loved Term Limits.

Priscilla | 127 comments I have just read The Book of Tomorrow by Cecelia Ahern I finished it early hours this morning! I highly reccomend it..I really enjoyed it. I've tried a couple of the Reacher books and they just didn't grab me. I really wish I liked them as Lee Child is another sweetheart of a guy and also pretty easy on the eyes. He's a staple at B'con every year and has such a dry wit. I'm not familiar with the Sean Drummond books. Do you read Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch books?

message 494: by Sandie (new)

Sandie | 10741 comments Oh yes. I love Connelly's Bosch books and I am really partial to his Mickey Haller/Bosch books like The Brass Verdict and the first one (The Lincoln Lawyer). Understand there is a new one with Bosch/Haller coming out this October called REVERSAL.
Have you ever seen the TV show CASTLE? Connelly, James Patterson and a couple of other REAL authors appear on the show occasionally as participants in Rick Castles monthly poker game. It's a hoot when they offer their opinions on the latest "crime" Castle is working on.

Picked up The House on Mango Street today, am about 3/4 of the way through. It's different, the way it is told through a series of short vignettes.
