Hehe...what's romance without at least a little smut? *Goes back to reading her romance novel*

Oh, I finished In Serena's Web earlier this evening and have already started the next one in the series, Raven On The Wing. Up after that will be my friend Toni's new one, Sugar Creek, which has a bee-yoo-tee-ful cover.

Sugar Creek (Destiny, #2) by Toni Blake

I saw the movie quite awhile ago and I must've forgotten most of it or the book doesn't follow well. Both my husband and I agree we need to see it again now.

message 553: by Sukhi (new)

Sukhi (svgoomer) Lol @ Heather! I like the sound of Sugar Creek. Another TBR. Ugh. So tired of TBR-ing things! Driving me crazy! *pulls her hair out*

Heidi | 2446 comments Book worm the regency romances are written by Marion Chesney (aka MC Beaton), and they do have some smut!

BookWorm: What'd I say now? *grin*

I feel I should warn you that Sugar Creek is the second in a series. The first is One Reckless Summer (hey, that fits the "read the season" as a bonus selection!).

Beth | 616 comments Sandie wrote: "Just finished THE SECRET OF RAIN AND LIGHTENING by Nancy Picard. This is a great read and would be an excellent choice for book clubs. Lots of fodder for discussion."

Like Sandie, I really enjoyed The Scent of Rain and Lightning, gave it a great review, and recommended it to my literary/women's fiction book club. I hope everyone agrees to pick it as a discussion book for 2011.

Melissa (lissieb7) | 80 comments I'm reading a bit of historical fiction at the moment. I started The Boleyn Inheritance today and am liking it thus far.

Kaye (momgee) | 862 comments I hope to start A Summer Affair A Novel by Elin Hilderbrand today. The Nantucket setting always draws me in and Hilderbrand's books are delightful. I always really enjoy her characters. The stories may tend to be a bit predictable but still make for fun reading.

Kate - That was one I was hoping to win. You'll have to let us know what you think of it!

I'm reading now Death Echo by Elizabeth Lowell . Not a cozy, but suspense too.

message 562: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (cddimmitt) I put The Lost Symbol aside for now. I picked up the audiobook version of The Beach House by Jane Green (another book set in Nantucket). I might go back to Dan Brown after this one.

message 563: by Sukhi (new)

Sukhi (svgoomer) Oh! I didn't realize they were smutty. Thanks for the heads up, Heidi... And another TBR. Gosh, you people are really something else.

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Heidi wrote: "Well if you all want smut so bad read some of the Black Dagger Brotherhood books. Wow! Those will keep you awake."

The only really good smut I got from those was book #5! I read 1, 2 & 5. That Vishous in #5 was a real smut-meister!! LOL

message 567: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments Good to know Melodie. I am only on book 2, so I have something to look forward to :)

message 568: by Denise (new)

Denise | 618 comments I started Annie's Ghosts: A Journey Into a Family Secret last night. It is kind-of good. Supposedly true story, his mother always claimed she was an only child and not long before she dies the children find out she had a sister but they don't ask mom about it and the author Steve Luxenberg is trying to find out about the sister (his aunt) who spent a large part of her life in an institution. The aunt is also dead. I'm 54 pages into it and it is interesting enough to keep going (at least for now).

message 569: by Caroline (last edited Jun 19, 2010 11:46AM) (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Just finished Nowhere to Run (Joe Pickett #10) by C.J. Box and it is definitely NOT a cozy! Just like his last one (Below Zero), C.J. Box has done it again. A heavy-duty storyline and a plot that definitely makes you think about what's going on in this country today. There are a few gruesome bits but if you can deal with that, this is an excellent, very INTENSE read!

I really like this series, too, but am terribly behind with it. C.J. is a really nice guy. I love his cowboy hats!

message 571: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliawebb) I enjoy Kathy Reichs, Linda Fairstein & Beverly Connor. Not cozy reading. Patricia Cornwell got too dark & gruesome for me. Now you ladies have me thinking smut again! Hmmm....

message 572: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Oh yes, Julia! Beverly Connor, Kathy Reichs and Linda Fairstein are three of my favs! I also like the Kay Hooper trilogies about the Special Crimes Unit. Kathy Reichs "Spider Bones" is due out in August and Diane Fallon # 9 is coming out in Dec! Hell Gate came out in March of this year so I expect we won't see another Linda Fairstein until next year. Sometimes I wish my favs could write faster. LOL

message 573: by Susan (new)

Susan I'm reading Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning and Size 12 Is Not Fat by Meg Cabot!! Both very very good!

message 574: by Sukhi (new)

Sukhi (svgoomer) Heidi, I'm not desperate for smut.

*secretly writes Melodie's suggestion for book 5 in black dagger series in her TBR list*

I was supposed to be reading Fellowship of Fear, but I really really really wanted to read The Viscount Who Loved Me.

I like this book a lot, I think it's one of the book I've laughed more.

message 576: by Sukhi (new)

Sukhi (svgoomer) Awesome. I'm really enjoying Julia Quinn's style of writing. It's not like stereotypical romance writing.

message 577: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (cddimmitt) A friend loaned me The Viscount Who Loved Me. I didn't realize it was #2 in a series, so I'm planning on reading the first one. Hopefully I'll get to it soon.

message 578: by Tina (new)

Tina Whittle (tinawhittle) | 30 comments I picked up The Mortician's Daughterfrom a box of swaps outside the ladies room at the golf course clubhouse-- small town girls goes big city cop then comes back to small town to investigate a murder. I'm impressed enough to look for See Isabelle Runby the same author (not a series I don't think) -- anybody here familiar with that one?

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments I finished In Cold Blood last night. It wasn't what I expected at all, but it was still a good read.

Now I'm reading The Twins of Tribeca: A Novel which is complete fluff, but I'm ok with that.

IN COLD BLOOD is one heavy duty read. If you've never seen the movie you should check it out. VERY good!

message 581: by Kate (new)

Kate | 71 comments I'm reading a book in the Marlow series by Antonia Forest -- The Cricket Term. I've just finished The Attic Term.

From Wikipedia:

"It could be said that she embraced the way of life of the upper middle classes of the English shires with the zeal of the convert. From 1938 until her death she lived in Bournemouth, and from the end of 1946 onwards she was a devout Catholic; she would eventually sum herself up as "middle-aged, narrow-minded, anti-progressive AND PROUD OF IT".[citation needed:] Most of her books are concerned with the Marlow family, an ancient landed family whose patriarch is a Navy commander (later captain), and whose six daughters (out of eight children in all) all go to Kingscote School for Girls, a boarding school where all the Marlow books with "Term" in the title are set, with the school career of Nicola and Lawrie (twins)."

Erin: I second Melodie's suggestion to watch the movie version of IN COLD BLOOD. I've both read the book and seen the movie a couple times each.

Currently reading Sugar Creek by Toni Blake, though wasn't able to get much read over the weekend (hate migraines!).

I also discovered a copy of The Witness for the Prosecution and Other Stories by Dame Agatha while searching for another book in a TBR box. Never did find the one I was looking for but, not realizing I had this one, I had to pull it out. And, here's how foggy my brain was yesterday--it wasn't until several hours later that I realized I've seen the movie based on "Witness For the Prosecution" a couple of times. So I had to read that one before bed last night.

Bless your heart, Heather. I know from migraines and truly sympathize with you.

message 584: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (cddimmitt) I just finished Nobody's Baby But Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I've only got one more book in her Chicago Stars series left now.

message 585: by Erin L (new)

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments It's funny. The movie (In Cold Blood) was on on the weekend and I refused to watch it because I wasn't done the book yet. What are the chances it'll be on again in the near future? Ooops.

Caroline | 661 comments The other non-cozy I'm reading right now is Wild Penance (Wild Mystery, #4) by Sandi Ault . If you like Nevada Barr, I think you'll like the Sandi Ault series about Jamaica Wild. : )

Sorry, somehow I thought I was on the thread What Are You Reading When You're Not Reading A Cozy?

message 589: by Kate (new)

Kate | 71 comments Yes, thank you. They sound great, & I've put all of them on my Wish List

message 590: by Denise (new)

Denise | 618 comments I finished three books (non-mysteries):

Book Yourself Solid: The Fastest, Easiest, and Most Reliable System for Getting More Clients Than You Can Handle Even if You Hate Marketing and Selling, Super Searchers Make It On Their Own: Top Independent Information Professionals Share Their Secrets for Starting and Running a Research Business and Annie's Ghosts: A Journey Into a Family Secret. The two business books had good info and I took lots of notes. The last one was a true story about a mother that hid the secret that she had a sister living in an institution from her husband and kids. The kids found out not long before mom died but didn't ask her about it and then after she died her son decided to find out what he could and the results are what the book is about (as well as the research he went through). It was okay but I didn't feel that the story had much "soul" if you know what I mean.

My next book is Messenger: The Legacy of Mattie J.T. Stepanek and Heartsongs. I don't know if any of you know who Mattie Stepanek was but I am expecting this to be at least a half box of kleenex book if not more.

message 591: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 188 comments I'm in the middle of This Body of Death by Elizabeth George. She is one my absolute favorite mystery authors! Her current book is very, very good and reminiscent of her usual style. I was somewhat disappointed by Careless in Red, so I'm glad this one is making up for that.

message 592: by Erin L (new)

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments I'm reading Minette Walters right now.

I'm currently reading The Scold's Bridle by Minette Walters and I've read Acid Row by Minette Walters previously. I really enjoy these books and the way they focus on the people involved rather than the events that trigger the book.

Roxann Maples-Stokes (roxyann) | 24 comments I just finished the Stieg Larsson The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1) by Stieg Larsson trilogy and was sucked into this world of govt conspiracy meets John Grisham meets Silence of the Lambs!! I'm also a CJ Box fan. If you like his books, you may also enjoy the series written by Craig Johnson and William Kent Krueger.

message 598: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (cddimmitt) I gave up on The Lost Symbol. I gave it two really good efforts. I'm listening to Judge & Jury by James Patterson. I wouldn't say it counts as a cozy, although there hasn't been anything too graphic in it so far.

message 599: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 110 comments I read erotica, romance, paranormals, urban fantasy, non-romance historical fiction, mystery/thrillers and general fiction, fantasy and even some sci-fi and YA. About the only thing I don't read is horror and rarely non-fiction.

message 600: by Kelley (new)

Kelley (booknerd69) Just started reading The Alchemist's Daughter by Katharine McMahon. It's pretty good, but I haven't gotten to far into it yet. I really want to read another cozy, but I got 3 books from the library this past week and this was one of them, so I am going to read them first. I also got Haunt Me Still by Jennifer Lee Carrell, not realizing this was the 2nd one in the series, the first being, Interred with Their Bones. So, I HAD to set that one aside and reserve the first book. I am one of those people that has to read books in the order the series was written, so it's going to have to wait :)

Happy Reading!
