Lisa (the.running.bookworm) Caraval I am reading at the moment is a library book so that could cover that prompt for board 2 if needed :)

Chrissy | 1137 comments Laura, can we apply books we finished before the second board was posted, but during the readathon to the new categories?

If we can, then I read Everyone's a Aliebn When Ur a Aliebn Too in one sitting on Sunday, so it could count for either that square and/or for graphic novel.

message 103: by [deleted user] (new)

My pages read for Pompeii was 370.

I also read 200 pages of Night Music: Nocturnes Volume Two.

Total: 570 pages

Chrissy | 1137 comments Where can I find an easy list for "reject prompts"? I am about to finish Provenance, and it seems like I should be able to fit it in somewhere!

This could count for both because I think that the one sitting prompt is available for an overlap.

For the rejects, there is a thread for last years rejects :

Sarah (sezziy) | 614 comments Finished The Hunchback of Notre-Dame today. Works for author born before 1950 if we still haven't done that one. 229 pages read for me.

Chrissy, yes, that’s perfectly fine.

I’m on mobile but there is a thread for this year’s rejects also. I can post it once I’m on my computer later.

message 108: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sezziy) | 614 comments Just realised I never posted my book rec. I think I'll go with The Lies of Locke Lamora. It was my favourite book that I read last year.

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments Hi team, I’m so sorry not being around the last day, unfortunately I’ve been ill.

I’ve just updated the second post in the thread so now there should be:
- board one updated with all the squares we’ve completed
- tasks left on board one
- board two ready to be updated once we complete a square
- list of all the tasks for board two

If I’ve missed any completed squares please say and I’ll get the board updated. And sorry again to have been missing in the middle of the readathon!

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments And, I can definitely contribute three books to the children’s books / picture books task. My little one loves to read so I probably read at least fifteen books a day!

Three we’ve read today are:
Slinky Malinki by Lynley Dodd
The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson

and
Baby Dolphin's First Swim

Total pages: 111

Hope you're feeling better Bryony. You can reveal number 7 on the 1st board. I posted just before you so you might have missed it :)

Both boards are now updated - 3, 7 and 17 on the first board and 1, 16 and 21 on the second are revealed.

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments Oh another book/movie recommendation....

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society is playing now on Netflix. I enjoyed it so much I watched it three times last week!

Hannah, Loved the LOTR movies! The books, those were a struggle for me. I had a thing for Legolas in the movies, I don't know why lol.

message 118: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 1137 comments I finished my audiobook on the way home from work, Provenance, for the AtY challenge and added it as a "reject prompt" so square 5 on the second card can be uncovered.

My next audiobook is The Power, but I won't finish it by Monday. It will still add to my audiobook hours, though.

Peter | -28 comments Chrissy wrote: "I finished my audiobook on the way home from work, Provenance"

How was Provenance? I've read two of the "Imperial Radch" series and have the third, Ancillary Mercy, on my list this year. I've loved Ann Leckie so far, and Provenance is on my list to get to sooner than later. I'm interested in what you thought about it and if you've read any of her Ancillary books how it compares.

Also, I'm fairly certain book 1 on grid 2 is (view spoiler)

I'm also going to hazard a guess that the theme is going to have something to do with (view spoiler)

For a book to movie adaptation... I really like The Princess Bride. It's one of the few times I think the movie did it better.

I liked it - it is in the same universe as the Ancillary series and briefly references events there, but focuses on the human diaspora and the Geck, rather than the Radch. (not sure I spelled those right, since I was listening.) A "smaller" story, but interesting.

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments Read 240 pages today ( in addition to my children book post # 119)

Finished The Voyage to Magical North which can be used for a book with children characters prompt.

Total pages to date : 642
Books read : 5 ( 1 plus 4 children's)
ATY books read : 2 ( max )
Audio hours to date : 5

message 123: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3266 comments Only 87 pages today. Still making my way through Dreams of Gods & Monsters, much slower than I would have liked.

message 124: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 1137 comments One more square completed: #8 on the second card.

Lisa (the.running.bookworm) Almost finished Caraval (a book borrowed from the library + ATY book)
My next planned read is Elizabeth is Missing (a book with a red cover + ATY book)

message 126: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (ronireads13) | 816 comments I read 65 pages plus one more hour of audiobook.

I have played all the games so far.
My book recommendation is The Hate U Give. Such a well- written book that handles a current issue superbly (police shooting innocent people) without getting preachy or anything.

message 127: by Bryony (new)

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments Board two is now updated with square 8 revealed.

I can see we only need a book recommendation from Christine to complete that task for board one. Christine, I can see you haven’t posted here for a few days so I’m not sure if you’re still able to participate in the team game. If you see this please could you add your recommendation. Thank you!

I think Christine is having a few problems navigating Goodreads. She posted this in the thread for group 2 - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/....

I did reply to her with a link to our thread but she doesn't appear to have been back to the thread.

welcome Christine!! You found us :-)

Chrissy posted our spreadsheet in message #26 here, so you can see what "task" are open. We are working on both boards.

Completed The Halfway check in and also the recommendations thread, whichever counts for todays game.

Chrissy, thanks so much for all the hard work you're doing on the spreadsheet :-)

I have a few possibilities I can work on for categories that aren't already filled :

Everything, Everything for romance
Little Fires Everywhere for trees on the cover
When Breath Becomes Air for non fiction
still have The Smell of Other People's Houses by Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock for beautiful cover ( I think so anyways)
F-A-L-L in the title???? Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine!!!

if anyone has input I just keep stacking up books on the table so at this point I can't figure out what to pick up next lol

message 133: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 1137 comments Tracy,
I think F-A-L-L might be a hard one to fill, so maybe start there after you've finished whatever you are currently reading?

Christine,
Welcome! If you are able to, tell us about a poem you find, and tell us your favorite movie adaptation of a book. And just keep reading and checking in here to update us with your pages, hours of audio, and completed books.

Agreed, I had to go almost all the way to the bottom of my ATY challenge list to find that one... Dropping the kiddos off at 2, then coming home to some peace and quiet and 2 days worth of reading uninterrupted.

I'll finish up Five Days at Memorial: Life and Death in a Storm-Ravaged Hospital for published in September and then read Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine for the F-A-L-L prompt.

Oh, I would throw that in the plant on the cover category. Is it good? Its been on my TBR forever, but my TBR is so huge that I can never get around to all of the books :/

message 139: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sezziy) | 614 comments Currently reading Uncle Montague's Tales of Terror. It has trees on the cover + child protagonist but I think they've both been taken.

Lisa (the.running.bookworm) Caraval finished and it was amazing!

Total pages read so far: 752
Audiobook so far: 30 minutes
Number of completed books: 2

Definitely Dylan Thomas....I just watched the movie Dangerous minds lol, they picked the poem apart along with the lyrics for "hey Mr Tambourine Man" by Bob Dylan.

Also Christine is back over in group 4? She listened to 2 hours of audio

317 pages
I read it for the ATY 2018 gothic task.

Oh good one!! I read it for the first time last year and then immediately watched the movie. Great adaptation! I loved it.

Lisa (the.running.bookworm) I borrowed Caraval from the library so could be used for that prompt? Or any other that needs to be completed that it fits really x

Lisa (the.running.bookworm) My book to movie adaptation has to be Watership Down
