Hey Jackie,
If you can make a book recommendation, we can finish that prompt. We are getting a 2nd board (since we are nearly done with this one) and will need a 2nd book recommendation, so if you want to recommend two, that would be great.

Brittany Morrison | 478 comments I just finished 4.50 from Paddington for the mystery prompt. It was 217 pages so I’m at 328 total pages read.

message 103: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments I finished reading De Scrypturist it is the first in a series.
It was published first in September 2009, I'm reading it for ATY, it is a fantasy book and it is a Dutch book.

I now have read 236 pages.

Christine Marshall | 33 comments I'm retired and I have lots of time but I am new to this whole site so I am gonna need a little help... anyone want to just help me on where to keep the totals and how?

message 106: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) I played Music & Book Tag as well. Loved your answers, Silvia. I don't listen to modern music, so all my songs were old ones.

message 107: by Rachelnyc (new)

Rachelnyc | 943 comments Work is busier than I expected this week but after tomorrow, I have a 4 day weekend so I'll have more time to read.

I'm currently reading Mrs. Dalloway which could fill the author born before 1950 or female main character prompt. I am hoping to finish it tomorrow.

I also participated in the antonyms/synonyms game.

Not sure I am the right person to direct you, but post all your activities here: link for the book you read, no. of pages, etc. If you go to the main discussion topic "Read-a-Thons" that this thread is nested under and just click on each of the threads, there is an explanation of what that thread is for as the first entry of each one. Hope that is helpful. Have fun, Christine.

Great Silvia,

I put this in the "a language other than English" square since we need to see what is happening in that section. If we get someone else who can meet that prompt, I will move it to the "series" prompt.

message 111: by Erica (new)

Erica | 555 comments I’m at 668 pages now. I finished The Cabin At the End of the World which could count for thriller. I also recommend this one if you like horror.

Welcome Christine!
Since you are just getting started, I would suggest you look at the Read-a-Thon #3 - Individual BINGO Challenge thread of conversation. The BINGO card will give you a place to keep track of your reading. This thread is part of the Team competition which started earlier. Teams were set last week and since you aren't part of this team, I can't add your totals into our spreadsheet.

That said, you are more than welcome to follow our conversation and when the next Readathon occurs you will be ahead of the game.

Happy READING!

Please check off 2, 9, 16, 18, and 23. and also 12

Let me know when the 2nd Board is posted. We already have several squares that can be checked off. (1, 6, 16, 18, 20, 22) and several more that are close.

I put it in "series" since we didn't have that square covered yet. I will try to keep track of your audiohours (past 5) so we can count them on our 2nd Board.

Sara (phantomswife) I read the poem Barter by Sara Teasdale.
She is one of my favorite poets and I never read her without thinking that she saw life for the fleeting thing it is and urged us always to make our best use of it.

I also read the short story The Saint by V.S. Pitchett. It made me laugh, which is always a plus.

The old ones are the best!! :)

message 118: by Silvia (new)

Silvia Turcios | 1058 comments I understand that everyone in the team should read a poem. Am I right? Well, I read the poems "In case the silence" (Por si el silencio) and "Petition and Offering" (Petición y Ofrenda), both by Francisco Andrés Escobar.

message 119: by Silvia (new)

Silvia Turcios | 1058 comments Oh, and I have read 250 pages from Renegades that can be included in the pages count :)

Hi Silvia,

I've recorded all your additions. We should have six squares uncovered on our new board once we get it. There are also 5 squares that need to be updated on Board 1.

Thanks for all your contributions.

Hey! Sorry I was a little busy the last two days and went into a small reading slump. Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald is going to be a slow burn so I've set it aside. I did manage to read Evil Under the Sun (220 pages, no audio, yes for aty). And it's a mystery which I think we still need?

I recommend Evil Under the Sun, and also The Fellowship of the Ring as my two recommendations. I'll go find some poems real quick so we can get that done too!

No worries. Keeping this spreadsheet updated has cut into my reading time. Thanks for the recommendations, that will give us another square completed. I added your book under mystery. Any chance your book has a female main character?

Ok, so I have read two poems: Nothing Gold Can Last and The Road Not Taken, both by Robert Frost. I like that his work is short and simple. The Road Not Taken was actually written as a bit of a joke, making fun of his writer friend who always spent forever agonizing over trivial decisions. Said friend read the poem and was inspired to take the road less travelled, joined the military, and died in WWI.

message 124: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) Ouch, Jackie, I had never heard that story. I do love Frost's poems.

I have completed The Happy Prince and Other Tales. Not sure where we can use it. But, it will add 95 pages to my total.

Everyone keep in mind that you have to read a poem and share it with the team. That's the full poem, not just the title.

I'm updating the board now. I plan to create all the new boards now also. It will take a little while but they should be complete later this evening.

Although some of the squares will be the same, I will be adding in some new prompts just to make it more exciting. I'll also likely try to make them more challenging since all teams have been really killing it.

message 126: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) Sorry, Laura. I did not realize we were to share the poem. I am delighted to give you all, the inimitable Sara Teasdale:

Barter
Sara Teasdale, 1884 - 1933

Life has loveliness to sell,
All beautiful and splendid things,
Blue waves whitened on a cliff,
Soaring fire that sways and sings,
And children’s faces looking up
Holding wonder in a cup.

Life has loveliness to sell,
Music like a curve of gold,
Scent of pine trees in the rain,
Eyes that love you, arms that hold,
And for your spirit’s still delight,
Holy thoughts that star the night.

Spend all you have for loveliness,
Buy it and never count the cost;
For one white singing hour of peace
Count many a year of strife well lost,
And for a breath of ecstacy
Give all you have been, or could be.

message 127: by Laura, Celestial Sphere Mod (new)

Laura | 3780 comments Mod
My team has been sharing the poems but now that I re-read the prompt, it doesn't explicitly state it. It looks like other teams have just been doing the title so you can stick with that. Obviously, if you want to share, feel free :)

I will also be modifying prompt 17 so it makes sense to have two boards. You will earn the square for board 1 for completing all the games during that timeframe. Then you will earn the square in the new board for all the games completed after it is posted.

message 129: by Jackie, Solstitial Mod (new)

Jackie | 2451 comments Mod
Well, even if we don't have to, here's The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, so now you can think about maybe staying on that beaten path after all.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

The new team board is being posted now, in the main topic. I'm going to remove the completed prompts for the sake of keeping things a little more simple.

The new board will be a continuation of the read-a-thon so the book, audio, and page totals are for all reading since the start of the read-a-thon. They can simply be tacked on to our current totals.

Laura...

Thanks for the new board.

Is #9 on the new board correct?. We can't get to 7500 pages read when we are limited to 500 per person. If everyone on the team reads 500 pages, we can only get to 5500 pages.

Also, why are portions of our opened tiles blocked out? None of the other teams seem to have any blocking... all of their opened tiles show completely.

Emily pointed out the issue with prompt 9 in the team 4 discussion. It has now been modified to 1,500 pages per member.

I chose to block out title and author since this gave away the book. The new boards, for all teams, will have title and author blocked out.

But the title and authors are not blocked on the other teams boards, why just Team 2.

#3 allows just 4 books per member to reach 30 books, although on the original board members could read 5 books to reach a total of 20.

Edie | 1144 comments Hi Team,

I have created a new spreadsheet for the new Board.
Here's a link.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
We have two spaces that are complete. I moved one of our two non-fiction books to the new board.

Please take a look at finished books that "didn't fit" any of the first prompts and let me know if they can be plugged in here. Also, we had three mystery books listed on Board 1, can any of those be moved to a one of the new prompts (red cover perhaps)?

Also, please check your page totals. Under the new prompts, we can read up to 1500 pages (not happening for me!). Also check your audio hours, since that limit has also increased. I need to get back to reading... rather than manipulating the spreadsheet.

Happy reading!

Yes, I mentioned in an earlier comment that I was adding covers in my groups since I realized as I removed squares, it was totally giving the away the book. I did the same in team 4. I just thought it was more fun :)

Updating the boards now. I am removing the covers in board 1 since you've now guessed all covers and the link (good job Lieke!)

Edie, if you want to try it out, we could change the settings to allow members to edit. It may be messy but if you're not liking how long you have to spend on the spreadsheet then that is option.
