Val H. | 22141 comments If anyone would like to view the AFL Ladder before submitting next week's tips, it's at http://www.afl.com.au/ladder

Next week's fixtures are:

Friday, April 13
Adelaide Crows v Collingwood Magpies (in Adelaide)

Saturday, April 14
GWS Giants v Fremantle Dockers (in Canberra)
Richmond Tigers v Brisbane Lions (in Melbourne)
Western Bulldogs v Sydney Swans (in Melbourne)
North Melbourne Kangaroos v Carlton Blues (in Hobart)
West Coast Eagles v Gold Coast Suns (in Perth)

Sunday, April 15
Essendon Bombers v Port Power (in Melbourne)
Hawthorn Hawks v Melbourne Demons (in Melbourne)
Geelong Cats v St Kilda Saints (in Melbourne) (in Geelong)

If punters could lodge their tips by midnight THURSDAY April 12 (your time) it would be a great help, although I can accept them up until 10.45am FRIDAY April 13 (your time) if absolutely necessary.

theDuke | 6491 comments Fairly straightforward looking round, at least on paper..with just a couple of games that go either way..here's mine:

Crows - 55 (Poor Maggies will get a pasting!)
GIANTS (so will the Dockers!)
Tigers (and the poor Lions too!)
Swans (don't think the Dogs have quite got themselves together yet)
Roos (Blues could do it, but the Roos will be too comfortable on their home turf)
Eagles (They don't travel well, so The Suns must be itching for the Commonwealth games to end!)
Port (Dons inconsistent performance against Port's 3/3 wins)
Hawks (flip of the coin...Dees ought to do it, but the Hawks are gaining strenght)
Cats (easy win, Kilda just aren't consistent enough)

Good luck folks, many thanks agin Val! :)

I had to read that a few times Anita just to make sure you weren't facing a manslaughter charge. Just because you've had enough of

message 223: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22141 comments Pies have got the ball on a string. Can't do anything wrong. The return of "bad boy" Jordan De Goey is paying dividends.

Adelaide Crows 1.1 (7)
Collingwood 5.2 (32)

But you tipped the Crows Val! As most of us did! Except for Suzy though, who could well be laughing at us lot soon!

If the Pies keep this up, then my margin is gonna be well and truly stuffed!

The mantra here is...never, ever, assume anything! As it seems the Black squawky ones don't like the wet stuff! lol! :)

But the Magpies apparently do..and they're of the same family species too...who knew! ;)

message 226: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22141 comments My daughter's boyfriend was explaining to me (at about 5 o'clock today) that friends of his hedge their bets in the following way. Some betting agencies offer you to take your profits if the team you've bet on is up by 4 goals (24 points). So they will put say 40% of their stake on the underdog, in hopes that they have a purple patch and get a 24 point lead. They then take the money but the other 60% of their stake is on the favourite who will hopefully get over the line at the final siren. Double whammy!

I guess I've picked the wrong roughies this round!

How cheeky! I rarely ever bet on anything, so didn't know that. The Crows are really gonna have to flap their wings now, if they'tre gonna get over the line in this game. They have caught a wee bit though...but 1 quarter left...i'm not confident.

The Crows aren't the team they were last year, that's for cert..something has changed in the 6 months since they stormed the last season.

I wondered if the curse of Friday 13th would make it's present felt...bummer!

message 229: by theDuke (new)

theDuke | 6491 comments Well who'd have thunk it....I put my margin of 55 on the wrong soddin' team!

message 230: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22141 comments Tonight's result:

Adelaide Crows (Deano) v Collingwood Magpies (Tech)
1.1.7 (Q1) 5.2.32
3.2.20 (Q2) 8.5.53
6.3.39 (Q3) 11.9.75
9.4.58 (Q4) 16.10.106

Pies x 48. Suzy was the only one to pick them AND she has the closest margin (Pies x 13) so $6.00 goes to Even Keel. Well done Suzy!

message 231: by theDuke (new)

theDuke | 6491 comments Well..that was a shocker! Well done Suzy...Phil & Redjohn won't be best pleased when they see what penalty margins they'll be getting this week..and Techy will no doubt be pleased too!

That's the last time I take anything for granted this season!

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments WoW? - I got completely lost somewhere amongst the fourth list of ingredients just to make that one Dessert up, Lez Lee! - LOL!!!

I really do appreciate all of the time and the effort that goes into making things like that - but I definitely wouldn't want to try doing it myself.

Saying that though, I'd very happily spend almost every hour over several days in making up a Cartoon Character Cake or in creating a Wedding Cake if I still could manage to do so ;o>

message 240: by [deleted user] (new)

Talking of cakes, after I finished work today I had a wander around Sainsburys (in my Tesco uniform - you should see the looks I get) and when I reached the cake counter I paused, considering buying a strawberry gateau or something, anything with lots of fresh cream. However, when the lady behind the counter asked if she could help, I replied mournfully, "No thanks, I'm just drooling" :)

message 241: by suzysunshine7 (last edited Apr 13, 2018 08:19AM) (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments That pretty much sums up the story of my life too, kid! - LOL! ;o>

Except that I don't like Cream myself ... it's either the Bear Claws, or the Vanilla Custard Slices, or the Mixed Fruit Tartlets that always set me off with cravings! ;o>

Everyone probably thinks because I talk of Cakes all the time I must surely live off them? ... Nope! - but, Ohhh, how I wish that was true some days!

Awww, if it helps any then I do feel like it's kind-of my fault too, RedJohn ... x

I would have messaged you much earlier, but I got up later than usual yesterday, and I only realised that you and Philip still hadn't punted yet when I finally logged online. I didn't like to message you the night before because it felt like I might be being rather rude in presuming that you might have forgotten before the time was up to get your Punt in.

However, in future I will message you in plenty of time the day before, if it helps? - and you can always just ignore and delete my message if you had already remembered anyway ;o>

21.13.139 (Q4) 8.4.59

I've been out most of today and tonight so haven't seen much footy. There was a lot of rain today in Melbourne so the Brisbane Lions may well have found that playing in rain and wind on the huge MCG was a step too far for them. Shame really because they've been playing some great football even though they've yet to have a win.

The Dogs should have won their game. They did all the hard work, just couldn't kick straight.

And as for the Blues! North do like playing in Tassie but they are a very young team, definitely in the re-building stage. That was a winnable game for Carlton and they muffed it.

A lot of you (not me) are sitting on 5 from 6 games so good onya!

message 249: by TheFoe (new)

TheFoe | 2638 comments Listened to some of the Crows v Magpies game yesterday. The rain absolutely bucketed it down, the commentary went like this, "The rain's lashing down, of course no umbrellas as they're not allowed, so out come the ponchos. It's as wet as a shag out there". Saaaay what?!!
