Val H. | 22141 comments The power cut was nowhere near as bad as they warned us about. Only from about 12 noon till 2.00pm in the end. I thought they'd want to get away quickly for the long weekend! We weren't particularly worried as the weather has been very mild (about 23 degrees today). We have gas heating, hot water, cooking so we only needed to take a few basics (milk, yoghurt, butter, cheese, ham) from the fridge for breakfast/lunch and pack them in an esky and make sure we didn't open the fridge or freezer. I saw our neighbours had their cars out on the street - we don't have electrically operated garage doors, but you have to think of these things. Even landline phones these days are mostly plugged in at the wall. It's a bit tiresome having to reset clocks etc but better that and have the power supply maintained as it should.

You can also track these Threads as well just like you could on Amazon ;o>

message 122: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22141 comments Today's result:

North Melbourne Kangaroos (Steve) v St Kilda Saints (Lez)
0.6.6 (Q1) 1.2.8
2.10.22 (Q2) 2.10.22
6.16.52 (Q3) 5.11.41
13.17.95 (Q4) 5.13.43

I was happy to see the young Roos (who are widely expected to finish on the bottom this year because they are in a "re-building phase") get a win under their belts, especially after playing the Suns last week in torrential rain (that game should really have been abandoned). St Kilda are touted as being big improvers this year but somehow they rarely impress me. Too inconsistent by far. Their fourth quarter effort was abysmal - in their defence, they did lose their ruckman to injury.

Val H. | 22141 comments This afternoon's results:

Carlton Blues (RedJohn) v Gold Coast Suns (Suzy)
1.1.7 (Q1) 5.5.35
4.4.28 (Q2) 8.7.55
6.8.44 (Q3) 12.9.81
9.13.67 (Q4) 15.11.101

Collingwood Magpies (Tech) v Greater Western Sydney Giants (Duke)
3.2.20 (Q1) 4.1.25
5.3.33 (Q2) 6.2.38
9.7.61 (Q3) 10.2.62
12.7.79 (Q4) 15.5.95

Foe will be happy to know he has evened up his score - 2 losses followed by two wins.

Duke - I hope you managed to listen to some of the Pies/Giants clash. The result could have gone either way up until the last 5 minutes when the Giants got a couple of goals. Great game, marred by a couple of bad injuries - the Pies' Tim Broomhead (broken leg) - poor bloke was a late replacement for Ben Reid - and the Giants' Scully (fractured ankle).

Two games still to come this evening.

MC Zaptone | 34 comments Hi Val, thanks for the invite. Unfortunately, I’m at a critical point in my transplant. Although all in all I’m really well, better than I have been for a few years, I now start a program of weening off some of my meds and this carries a real chance of rejection. Even though I carry on as if nothing is happening, the reality is I’m obviously really stressed out. When this phase is overcome, successfully, I’ll reassess. In the meantime have a great Easter and as ever, good luck to everyone and get those tips in!! x

I'll suspend your "account" on this thread but here's hoping you are in top form for season 2019. All the best to you both.

message 142: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22141 comments Today's results:

Western Bulldogs (Blastro) v West Coast Eagles (Sussex)
3.3.21 (Q1) 3.5.23
3.6.24 (Q2) 9.9.63
5.13.43 (Q3) 12.10.70
9.16.70 (Q4) 18.13.121

Sydney Swans (Anita) v Port Adelaide Power (Grizzly)
2.4.16 (Q1) 1.2.8
6.6.42 (Q2) 4.4.28
8.10.58 (Q3) 11.7.73
10.11.71 (Q4) 14.10.94

As dismal as the Bulldogs were (absolutely no game plan whatsoever), so were Port the exact opposite. For a side that has been heavily criticised for not drafting youth (all their draft picks were established players from other clubs), they showed great determination in hanging in against a dominant Sydney (playing on their home ground) and then outplaying them in the final quarter. Sydney have been widely touted as this season's Premiers. Obviously it's early days yet, but on today's evidence, the Bulldogs are set for a poor season and the Eagles (as long as Nic Nat stays fit) will be right up there at the end. It's way too early to write off Sydney or to put the house on Port. Playing havoc with our tips though!

message 144: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Better get your Kit on and get warmed up, Lez Lee - I think they might need some help out there ;o>

message 145: by Blastronaut (new)

Blastronaut | 1061 comments I knew nothing of transplants and such, nobody tells me owt around here (and some refuse to acknowledge my existence at all) but I guess personal stuff like that isn't for conversation. In any case, all the best MC, we're all rooting for ya.

message 146: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22141 comments Today's result:

Geelong Cats (awaiting MC) v Hawthorn Hawks (unwanted)
5.1.31 (Q1) 5.3.33
8.2.50 (Q2) 11.8.74
12.7.79 (Q3) 14.13.97
18.9.117 (Q4) 17.16.118

Traditional rivals is a much overused term in many sports, particularly AFL, but these two teams turned on another amazing game. Halfway through the final quarter you'd have said the Hawks were home and hosed but back came the Cats. Despite my shouting at the television, they just couldn't get over the line.

Val H. | 22141 comments Our tipsters' ladder is as follows:

Round 2 (first number is correct number of wins - you want this to be high; number in brackets is the cumulative margin which is used to separate punters on the same amount of points - you want this to be low)

Duke on 6 (23)
Grizzly on 6 (52)
Blastro on 5 (17)
SussexWelsh on 5 (20)
Val on 5 (34)
Suzy on 5 (43)
Lez on 4 (7)
David on 4 (9)
Foe on 4 (46)
Deano on 4 (62)
Tech on 3 (19)
Sj Brooke (Steve) on 3 (19)
Anita on 3 (62)
RedJohn on 2 (48)
Philip on 2 (62)

Charity donations are:

Susex (Save The Bilby) - $6.00 (highest score - Eagles 121)
Lez (Alzheimer's Australia) - A$6.00 (closest margin)
Duke (Insight) - A$11.00 (weekly winner)

CUMULATIVE LADDER:

Duke on 12 (35)
Val on 12 (36)
SussexWelsh on 12 (49)
Blastro on 11 (17)
David on 11 (17)
Tech on 11 (22)
Lez on 11 (24)
Sj Brooke (Steve) on 10 (52)
Foe on 10 (60)
Anita on 9 (64)
Grizzly on 9 (81)
RedJohn on 8 (91)
Philip on 8 (105)
Suzy on 7 (86)
Deano on 5 (105)

Well done to Duke and Grizzly for picking 6 in a very tough round. The overall tally is still very close and we need to get into the rhythm of the season before we see if anyone can clear out in the lead. But congrats to all so far.

Please check your scores!!!
