Just finished Sea of Shadows this morning.

@Jane: I really enjoyed it! I have never read any Kelley Armstrong books before so I wasn't sure what to expect, especially since I read a few negative reviews. I found it really enjoyable though, fast-paced and easy to read. I will definitely continue with the series and probably check out her other stuff! 4 stars.

I will be continuing with Shadowmagic and starting Hush, Hush today.

message 164: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (zieglerae) | 25 comments Never mind. Next book: How to Be Single by Liz Tuccillo

Can use H-How or T-Tuccillo

Also can count as the bonus book since it is tagged as Chick Lit as a genre

Please welcome Rachel to your team! :D

OddModicum Rachel (oddmodicumrachel) | 126 comments well, Heeeeelllo, Hook! Isn't he rather fabulous?

Hi guys!
I've been sent over to Team Hook in case you might need someone to pop in last minute and play to the end. I'm a voracious reader, so my points will probably be decent, but I'm BRAND spankin' new, so I'll likely ask a lot of questions, need a bit of handholding, and be rather a pain in the tailfeathers. I'll leave it to you if you'd like me to join in for these last few weeks, or not. ;)

Here's my Wheel A Thon shelf... https://www.goodreads.com/review/list... Its still blank at moment till I find out if you'd like me on board, AND if I can use 'retroactive' books from beginning of contest. I have been tracking my books since mid May, as that's when I joined the 'GoodReads 2014 Challenge'.... If you guys decide you want a new teamie, can someone tell me if I can retroactively (from the start of your contest) add my books that I've already read? They're here... but not all of these would count as these are my 'read' pile for the last 2 1/2 months (as well as some that I could remember from the beginning of the year). https://www.goodreads.com/user_challe...

Jane | 705 comments Hello Rachel and welcome to the team.

I am not sure I am the right one to answer any of your questions as I just joined the group a week ago.

About how far back to add your books I think we need either Kerry-Anne (when she returns) or an moderator to answer.

Again welcome to the team.

message 181: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome Rachel!

message 182: by Irene (new)

Irene Hi, Rachel! What happened when I joined late was someone went through my books and let me know which ones to add to my new shelf. So, just concentrate on the current week. We're spelling out Chick Lit so any title, author's first or last name, a main character's first or last name, or the first word in the series that starts with any of those letter. Books must be 160 pages. Any other rules can be found here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Irene Okay, back to my original reason for stopping by

finished In a House in Yemen by Brenda Cheers by Brenda Cheers 7/30/14

Bless you! I'll try to track down a mod about retroactives unless anyone knows who I see about evaluating my recent reads in the meantime, and look at my whole slew of stuff I'm reading now and see what will get us along fastest, and finish those titles. Do the weeks run from Monday to Sunday, or how does that work.. like what date to what date do I have to look at to pick my chick lit stuff from?

message 185: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 30, 2014 11:15AM) (new)

If you are in the US time zone (EST) Chick Lit ends on Saturday at 9 PM.

Juliana's message 229 contains a link to our list so you can see what we are still working on. (Sorry I am still not sure how to create proper links!)

message 186: by OddModicum Rachel (last edited Jul 30, 2014 12:23PM) (new)

OddModicum Rachel (oddmodicumrachel) | 126 comments I'm befuddled by some of the rules here, like this for instance...

"◈ The team will get an extra 15 bonus points if all the letters in the genre name are part of their spell-it-out"
Does that mean if the team as a whole finishes spelling the whole phrase CHICK LIT?

So for now, I'll just stick the books I know are in this weeks timeframe here, and see if I can't help with some letters.

1)Left Hand Magic by Nancy A. Collins, 2nd in 'Golgotham' series, Finished 7/28
Left Hand Magic (Golgotham, #2) by Nancy A. Collins

Potential letters... ooh, this is a good one!
C for 'Collins' (author)
H for 'Hexe' (main character)
T for 'Tate' (char nickname) also her given name starts with a T, I think

LOTS of characters in this one, so if we need a specific letter, I'll go a'hunting.

have to check to see if any others were listed this week so far... i honestly can't recall (sheepish!)
_______________________________________________________

will definitely finish this week....

2)Fish and Ghosts by Rhys Ford, 1st book in the 'Hellsinger' series, will be finished 7/30
Fish and Ghosts (Hellsinger, #1) by Rhys Ford

Potential letters... lots! yay!
H for 'Hellsinger' (series name)
T for 'Tristan' (main character love interest 1st name)
K for 'Kincaid' (main character last name)

other characters I can hunt up and check if we need a specific letter.

3)The Bookseller by Robert C. Cales, will be finished 8/1 at latest
The Bookseller by C. Robert Cales

potential letters...
C for 'Cales'(author mid and last name)
can't think of any others, but its an epic book with tons of characters

_____________________________________
Let me know if we need a specific genre or letter to finish, and I can zip thru it in a day, anytime on Aug 1st or 2nd. I've got a big library I can draw from, and tons that need reviews, so just sing out if I can put us over the edge. ;)

message 187: by OddModicum Rachel (new)

OddModicum Rachel (oddmodicumrachel) | 126 comments do we get that boost in points for every 'chick lit' genre book we read, or just for the first? If its all, I'll hunt up a chick lit title that work for letter we need, and double down.

message 188: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments No, it is only 20 points for 1 book from the wheeled genre and only extra 15 points for the first round of the name. The rest of the rounds we just get points pr. book.

Or at least that is how I understand it.

I'm the co-captain of the team and this week I'm trying to organize our reads because our captain, Kerry-Anne, is away until Friday.

I'll sent a message to the mods to know how far we can use your previous books reads.

This week goes for more 3 days from now.

Just peeked at master list and holy schmooo! Go, team Hook! lol I'm new, but is it normal for a team to complete the spell it a bunch of times like that? I'm impressed with us, anyway. ;)

BTW, Mandy... go, you! And Kelsi... Thirteenth Tale is one of the 5 books i was considering reading next (book group thing)... can we use it for another letter if I read it, too, or is it safer to pick another? Its all the same to me, either way. I've got other books I have to get thru. Orphan Train looks amazing... kinda cool that we get built in 'recs' from our teamies reads.
