Joy | 281 comments On Friday morning (UTC +12), I will be going on a ski trip and will most likely not have access to internet. If I come back after the deadline, is it possible to still add books and have them count? I'm assuming I'll get tons of reading done in the evenings when I'm not on the slopes, so I want all that to count!

message 103: by Irene (new)

Irene Wasn't thinking of this game when I started this book but it works. The Surrogate's Secret by Mimi Barbour by Mimi Barbour
One of the main characters is Miguel Rivera.

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Tomorrow I'll pick up The Magicians' Guild by Trudi Canavan, which has a main character named Rothen, or Winters Heat by Cristin Harber. I'm not sure which one will be a faster reading...

message 105: by Irene (new)

Ashley (zieglerae) | 25 comments Actually I've decided to read Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury since we have such an abundance of r's to deal with

message 109: by [deleted user] (new)

Just a quick update: I am down to 250 pages left of the Stand and plan to spend the rest of the afternoon and tomorrow reading so I should be done in a couple of days at the latest :)

message 110: by [deleted user] (new)

haha this one is 1150 pages. I have been reading for almost 3 weeks now its crazy! The Dark Tower books are a definite must read though, they are the reason I picked up The Stand in the first place. It's one of those series that once you finish and look back it's just overwhelming. lol can you tell it's one of my favorites? :P

message 111: by Juliana (new)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments I decided to go with Winters Heat by Cristin Harber. I need it for another challenge and I think I can read it before week 2 is over.

message 112: by Joy (new)

Joy | 281 comments So these are the books I hope to have read by the end of this weekend:

1. The Mark of Athena (Can count as either an H (series name - Heroes of Olympus) or a R (author name - Rick Riordan)
2. The Picture of Dorian Gray (Counts as an O (author name - Oscar Wilde)
3. The House of Hades (Can count as either an H (series name - Heroes of Olympus) or a R (author name - Rick Riordan)

I hope that's a good enough spread that I'll be useful for completing words!

Have a great weekend everyone and I'll see you out on the other side. :)

Jane | 705 comments Hi All. I have just returned from a brilliant holiday and I am happy I am able to join your team for this team challenge.

my shelf is: NBRC Wheelathon

I am a bit unsure of what you need me to read this week and when the week started.
It looks like the week started the 20th of July and I have finished 2 books since that date:
A Croft in the Hills by Katharine Stewart
and
Neanderthal Seeks Human: A Smart Romance by Penny Reid

Let me know which books from my read shelf you need me to add to my NBRC Wheelathon shelf

Welcome Jane! Great to see you here.

I'm co-ordinating the challenge (and not actually on this team), but I know the teamies here will be pleased to see you :D

message 116: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments Thanks Karen.

Update on one of my books. I just read the spell it out rules and think that A Croft in the Hills by Katharine Stewart can actually work.

This is a non-fiction book about trying to make a living in a croft in Scotland. The family is Katharine, Jim and their daughter Helen

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Hi Jane!!! Welcome aboard!!

This week we are spelling HORROR. Our captain, Kerry-Anne, has a master list with what we have and what letter we still need on the first page of this discussion.
And we'll make sure we utilize your already read book.
Any doubt just ask and one of us will try to help you. :)

Irene Hi Jane! I only jumped aboard this week myself and so far it's been lots of fun. This is a group that really communicates and that makes it nice.

And for the group - I'll be finishing Sleep Tight today. I have to; I have to find out what happens!

message 127: by Irene (new)

Irene I'll have my book finished by tomorrow evening at the latest.

message 128: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished up with The Stand for the horror genre and letter R (Randall Flagg). Are we missing any other letters? I don't know if I can finish another one by tomorrow but I had some easier reads going as well so I might be able to polish one of them off.

message 129: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (zieglerae) | 25 comments Do we have the same genre every week? I'm still sort of confused by how this all works.

message 130: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 25, 2014 07:24PM) (new)

No they spin a wheel to determine the genre every week. It changes tomorrow afternoon (I think). We just unfortunately happened to end up with horror two weeks in a row!

message 131: by Juliana (new)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments I finished my last book for this week. Winters Heat by Cristin Harber

message 132: by Irene (new)

Irene finished Our Husband by Stephanie Bond by Stephanie Bond 7/25/14. fits for title or characters Ruby and Raymond

message 133: by Juliana (new)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Wow, I'm so anxious to know what it'll be our next week genre.

message 134: by [deleted user] (new)

I am trying to power through Sea of Shadows which could count for character Ronan...I will check my other books and see if I can spot one that would work for O.

message 135: by [deleted user] (new)

For the series name or title does it have to be the first word? I vaguely remember reading that. If it can be the second word however I am reading All Our Yesterdays so I could use the O from Our.

message 136: by [deleted user] (new)

Hmm...I don't think I have any other O's. Not unless I start another book but I am not sure I could finish before a new genre is picked.

message 137: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments I will be finishing an O in less than an hour.

One Sweet Summer

message 138: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments Done :-)

message 139: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Beyers (mandybeyers) | 173 comments I finished two books last night, Sworn in Steel by Douglas Hulick for H, and Raven and the Wolf which could be R or O for the character Oleanir.

message 140: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Beyers (mandybeyers) | 173 comments I finished one more that can be an "O" - On the Trail to Moonlight Gulch. I guess you've already reported them , though.

message 141: by Irene (new)

Irene New genre - Chick Lit

Now I'm off to bed cause I have to be up early to work my 16 hours tomorrow.

message 143: by Irene (new)

Irene Oh, the book I'm currently reading fits.

Look Behind You by Sibel Hodge by Sibel Hodge

works for L (title or Liam Benson), H (author), C (Chloe Benson). does not work for genre

message 144: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 26, 2014 07:55PM) (new)

Over the next day or two I should be able to finish up:

All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill which could count for a C or an L (author's name).
Sea of Shadows by Kelley Armstrong which could count for K (author's name), L (character name Levi), or T (character name Tova).

Also working on Shadowmagic by John Lenahan which could count for L (author's name) or C (character's name Conor).

Finally I plan to read Hush, Hush which would count for H (title word Hush) before the end of the week.

Unfortunately of all those books none are chick lit! But I should be able to power through most of those with the exception of Hush Hush (which I haven't started) in the next few days because I am about half way through or more.

message 145: by Juliana (new)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Great! A different genre. :)

I'm currently reading Sisters In Love by Melissa Foster. It's a Chick lit (22 users) and can count for letter L as the series name is Love in Bloom.

I've also started The Magicians' Guild by Trudi Canavan.

message 146: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Beyers (mandybeyers) | 173 comments I just now finished Murder in the Mews which could be a C for author's name (Agatha Christie) or H for character (Hercule Poirot).

message 147: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Beyers (mandybeyers) | 173 comments Starting Unlawful Contact - C for author (Pamela Clare) or H for character (Hunt)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Girls, I'll put a treat with our progress in the first page so we can see what we have and what letter we need.

Done! I've listed Irene, Kelsi, Mandy and my books to this week list. So far we need "I's".

You can check the list here - message 16

message 149: by Juliana (new)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments I don't know if everybody has seen but the mods created a discussion about difficult letter and there are a lot of options that work for letter "I".

Discussion: Difficult Letter Help

message 150: by Joy (new)

Joy | 281 comments Hey all!

I just got back from my ski trip, and I didn't break any bones, so that's a success!

Over the weekend, I finished The Mark of Athena (H or R) and The Picture of Dorian Gray (O), so feel free to add those to the list where they best fit so we can rack up the points!

Secondly, the next book I'll be reading is The House of Hades, which has a character named Iapetus in it, so it can count for an I. :)
