OddModicum Rachel (oddmodicumrachel) | 126 comments I tried to work out all the new 'finished' stuff and what that left us needing for the next spell it, but failed miserably. I'm wide open for next few days reads, if anyone can figure what letter we'll likely need, I'll fill it. Oh, my shelf link wasn't on list... here it is https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

message 203: by Joy (new)

Joy | 281 comments I think any letters at this point will be good. We already have so many flex picks (things that can count for more than one letter), that I think we'll be okay. I think the hardest letter to come by thus far as been "I"s though.

message 204: by Irene (new)

Irene Joy took the words right out of my keyboard. I'm pretty sure we're starting a new set. And like she said, I has been difficult to fill. We'll take whatever you've got though :-)

message 205: by Irene (new)

Irene Okay, got the next book. Had to stop and make dinner. Mom requested Spaghetti & meatballs so it took some work. Hubby seemed happy with that too.

Next book is The Long Way Home (The Homelanders #2) by Andrew Klavan by Andrew Klavan

Letters L (title), H (series The Homelanders), K (author)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Morning girls!!

As usual I wake up and saw a lot of new message :D
You are doing a great.

@Mandy it's ok but is good to have you back :) I'll fit your books in our list.

@Rachel, as the Joy and Irene said we have some flexibility so you can pick what are easier for you, but I'll work in our list and let you girls know how it is and what is missing.

@Irene, you are killing this week. Great job!!!

OddModicum Rachel (oddmodicumrachel) | 126 comments You guys rock, thanks! I'll peek at list again in a bit, and if there's nothing in particular missing, I'll hunt up a good "I" on my 'to be reads'.

Is there some site or trick to finding out full character names in a book, to see if something fits, btw? A ton don't have character names listed in descriptions. Some IMDB type thing for books?

Rachel, I'm still working on the list but I can see that we are kind of short with letters 'I' e 'K'. Again, if you have a specific book in mind go forward, we work if it later. :)

I don't see a problem in you reading the same book as other member of the team. But I can check if the mods.
And for finding out full character names in a book I don't have much information, if isn't in descriptions I don't use it.

So far we have completed read 'chick lit' two times!! And we have books finished and in progressing for more 3 rounds! I'm so proud of this team. :D

I'll put here the round that still has one letter empty and a brand new set. Who knows? Maybe someone wants to start a new round. LOL

Edit... Ok, so since its a 'T' we need I'll start Odd Apocalypse by Dean Koontz. Works as 'T' for char Odd Thomas, or 'K' for Koontz'

OddModicum Rachel (oddmodicumrachel) | 126 comments Irene... That 'Teagarden' book is darling. I really got a kick out of her character. ;) Hope you love it.

Sigh, I'm so sorry to confuse everything, but I started reading Odd Apocalypse, and realized the 3 short story 'extras' that preclude it were actually essential to series plot and there were huge plot holes without it. So I had to drop reading Odd Apocalypse and pick up Odd Interlude: A Special Odd Thomas Adventure, instead. I'm 99.9% sure its ok to use here as the three short stories are smooshed into a novella, which is actually 279 pages long. I hate it when they don't warn you about continuity with the extras. Usually 'extras' mean just that. Extra but non-essential to novel plot content. Please, somebody yell at me if this title WON'T work for our contest. lol I'm having such issues today! rofl So sorry for the confusion! I've fixed my wheel a thon shelf to reflect the correct title. To sum up...

No longer reading Odd Apocalypse by Dean Koontz, and will NOT finish for this week.

currently reading and will finish before week's end...
Odd Interlude: A Special Odd Thomas Adventure by Dean Koontz, 279 pages total, a novella comprised of 3 Odd Thomas short stories
Letters are still "T" for Odd Thomas (character) and "K" for Koontz
Odd Interlude A Special Odd Thomas Adventure by Dean Koontz

message 215: by Juliana (new)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Hi Rachel, how annoying this. I agree with you, extras should mean exactly that, extra and non-essential. But at least you could pick this "extra" right away.
I don't see a problem with the new title, but I'll take a look at the rules again.

And, I finally finished The Magicians' Guild, by Trudi Canavan. Was really entertainment but had a pace slower that I expected.

message 216: by OddModicum Rachel (new)

OddModicum Rachel (oddmodicumrachel) | 126 comments thanks so very much for the double check, Juliana! You've been so helpful! I'd hate for my foible to cost us an essential 'K'. ;)

message 217: by Juliana (new)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments You're welcome Rachel. I asked the mods about your book and if we really can read a book two times for the same week, if it is read by to different members.
When I had a answer I let you know. :)

message 218: by Juliana (new)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments So, the mods agree: Even if another team member reads the same book, they can count the same letter or a different letter. :)

And Rachel, Odd Interlude: A Special Odd Thomas Adventure counts for the challenge!!! :D

message 219: by OddModicum Rachel (last edited Aug 01, 2014 03:39AM) (new)

OddModicum Rachel (oddmodicumrachel) | 126 comments ((happy dance!!)) Oh great! Awesome news on both counts! That'll definitely be done by tomorrow's challenge end, then. Thank you! And it works for that final 'T' we need, which is nice.

message 220: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey girls, I wanted to let you all know that I am going out of town early tomorrow morning for the long weekend. I will be done with The Thirteenth Tale tomorrow, I can finish up the last bit while I am traveling. So count it as completed tomorrow.

I will do my best to check in tomorrow night and find out what the genre is. I can't guarantee I will get much reading done since I am going to visit family but I am going to bring a couple of books and my ereader so I will try my best to get some done! I will do my next update on Tuesday morning :)

message 221: by OddModicum Rachel (new)

OddModicum Rachel (oddmodicumrachel) | 126 comments Have fun on your travels, Kelsi! And bless the Ereader. I've only recently become obsessed with mine.. used to be devoted to print only books, so going out of town for more than a day meant lugging along 10lbs worth of books. lol

I promise I'll step up my # of books drastically in coming weeks. Only finishing 4 for me in a week is unheard of, but I got stuck with a wicked unexpected line editing project. I'm stuck home cause of health, so I usually read a bunch. ;) So hopefully I can pick up a few more in coming weeks. I'd say 6 a week is about average, sometimes more.

message 222: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Rachel! Lol I have always been the same way when travelling, suitcase is usually almost half books :p I'm only going for three days this time and am still bringing two novels and the ereader haha.

OddModicum Rachel (oddmodicumrachel) | 126 comments K... last question of the week, I SWEAR! rofl Poor you guys. This is a complicated challenge, though. Its my favorite yet, but there's lots of details. ;)

Since I'll be racing against the clock... I'm not worried at all that i won't finish my last book by 6pm my time... am perhaps worried that I'll finish, then fall asleep and nap thru the deadline! lol

Is there anything that HAS to be done before the week end deadline or your stuff won't count? Like do I have to trot back here and post 'done' or update my book to 'read' with a date, or stick it on the shelf or anything prior to the magic hour? Basically what step makes a book officially 'count' for the week? I'd hate to not do a tiny step, and blow my book points plus the bonus for the final 'spell thru' over a small detail.

I dig Charlaine Harris, too, Irene, but I often wanna waggle my finger at her editors. Or stalk her like crazy till she lets me line-edit/preread for her. lol She's got more typos and continuity issues from book to book (Jason's truck has pink lines on it in one book.. then purple suddenly in the next or Someone is another person's cousin.. then suddenly their aunt) than any mass market author I've ever read. Glad you loved it! BTW, have you read Alexander McCall Smith's The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series? I find they have the same 'feel' as Harris, but with all this amazing African background and gorgeous lyrical language. Lovely.

Whew... Officially done with Odd Interludes, and with only an hour and 45 mins to spare! We have our missing 'T'. ;)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Rachel, your book has to be marked 'read' on Goodread and put on your shelf for the challenge. It's good to write a message here to let us know that you have finished it (to make easier for captain) but if you can't the book still can count.
It's the captain or co-captain that has to informe the mods, until the deadline, in another discussion what is our final list of books reads.
Did what I wrote makes sense to you?

Since I'm in a different time zone (Australia) from the majority I'll be out for the next hours and I'll come back within three/two before the deadline to post our results (if Kerry-Anne don't do it before).

That's ok Joy. I'll use your book for "I".
