Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments Yeah as next week I have too many shifts to be going far!

Helen | 3465 comments Next week is the last week of the school year for me. Chester Zoo on Tuesday, disco (full blast) Thursday. Then the following MOnday, staff in for first aid updater.

Very justified! Could do a 52 mile round trip without buying anything!"

@Lynne Oh the Robert Asprin books are really good - one of the few things I read during my teenage years. Definitively justified your going - although it would be worth it for the cake shop alone.

@Helen have fun in your last week in school - then you'll have 6/7 weeks to recover.

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments @Dave - the lemon curd cake was so good!

I went for Victoria Sponge - which had the biggest slab of butter cream in the middle I'd ever seen :-)

@Helen - not having a go honest!! that should have read 6/7 well deserved weeks to recover.

Only 5 1/2 through - that's not fair they get 7 this year in the Vale. :-(

message 811: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3465 comments Definitely not fair! Apparantly, it all works out at the same but doesn't seem to. Last day tomorrow, we're spending the day doing first aid.

message 812: by Ian (new)

Ian | 8 comments Hi gang,
thought I'd better drop by and let you all know I'm well on the mend.
More to the point 'The Undefended Land' is out now, including for Kindle. This is the follow up to 'The Day The Ravens Died'.
And finally thanks to all who bought 'Ro' I hope you all enjoyed it! @77p how could you not enjoy it!?
All the best Paul Rix [oldgeezer]
AKA 'Timothy Pilgrim'

message 813: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3465 comments Why do you now have 3 names? I thought you were 'Ian' first!

message 814: by Pippa (new)

Pippa (pippa222) | 7 comments Hi everyone, I've just been cheerfully posting in the UK bookswap club that I'm a new member, and then I realised that all my posts to this group have come up on my member page. :/ I guess the two groups must be connected?

message 815: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3465 comments No, although I'm sure some will like swapping. We have a new member introduction thread in the general folder. Welcome to our group.

I used drop box and would recommend it. You can store pretty much anything in there and the free amount is pretty large unless you are storing photos. If you recommend someone else and they accept the link and get it free. Google docs is OK but I have had a myriad of problems with it being corrupted, or crashing.

Helen | 3465 comments Backing up pics is one of my holiday jobs.

message 819: by Ian (new)

Ian | 8 comments Helen wrote: "Why do you now have 3 names? I thought you were 'Ian' first!"

Hi Helen, my full name is Ian Paul Rix, I've never used the Ian! just the way it's always been, no reason.
I'm almost universely known as 'oldgeezer' especially on gardening sites and a magazine I write the grow your own bit for. My grow your own book was written under my real name [Paul Rix]
My first book,[a true story] back in 2003, was written under 'Timothy Pilgrim' for a good reason, well two bad reasons actually, but as they are both dead now it doesn't matter any more, but I stuck with the Timothy Pilgrim when I started writing terrorist thriller type books. G.R. used to post me as 'Timothy' then changed it to 'Tim' then to 'Ian'
I'd be happy with 'oldgeezer' so take your pick, over the years I've been called a lot worse things than any of the above
All the best Paul Rix [oldgeezer]

I love ebay, just got a pair of new sketcher shoes for less that £10! Retail at around £89!

message 824: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3465 comments It's great isn't it. It's my first go at selling, I put a couple of dresses, bags and bracelet on.

Helen | 3465 comments Radio Times, don't get sky so that would be why I didn't spot it.

I want a kindle fire; what is the benefit of HD. How big is 16GB and would I want 32 GB. Weighing up options to decide if I should have one.

It's 13GB actual storage for the small one and 27GB for the bigger one. I found this out with my Ipod, as some of the memory is used for running the device.

If it helps, on my Ipod I've got around 7 hours of tv programmes and that takes up 4 and a half GB.

Ian (pepecan) | 5088 comments Mod
HD - I get HD on my 38" screen TV and when you switch between HD and non HD for the same programme, there is minimal difference......I'm told that the difference is much more apparent on 50" plus screens. Is this relevant to a hand held device....dunno, but given the screen size, it's probably not much of a selling point. HD also takes up a lot more memory.

message 834: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3465 comments I like that HD shares my initials but guess that isn't a buying point. I really don't need one as I like reading on my kindle and can't imagine using anything but my notebook for everything else.

message 835: by Dave (new)

Dave Wood (pocket7976) | 775 comments I tend to agree Ian never really noticed much difference between HD and no HD.

Can't see myself getting one for a while through as they don't do anything the Ipad won't already.

message 836: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3465 comments Ooooh, they're doing a new version of the Moonstone for Christmas tv. I ordered a Fire, but have a month to decide & cancel anyway.

Oh dear, that's not fair to change dates like that. Hope you hear something soon.
It's amazing how books just seem to multiply, isn't it?! I've got several lined up for my next reads, but am on a bit of a go-slow at the moment:(

Haha:))
I remember my mum saying that I had a lot of books and I used to tell her I was collecting them for retirement (this was about 30 years ago). Now that I have retired, I'm still gathering books:)) Luckily, I can read more now that I'm not working, but will never reach the bottom of my many piles of books!
