Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 87 comments It keeps raining, which is annoying.

It means I have to keep turning the heating on and off as the temperature changes.

message 702: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3465 comments I'm now refusing to turn the heating on in the evenings, which means I'm sitting here in 3 layers!

message 703: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 87 comments We are about two weeks away from June, there shouldn't be a need to turn it on!

Stupid weather is stupid.

message 704: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3465 comments Exactly! I did manage to wear a summer dress to work W"ednesday, and successfully stayed out of the rain too! Been in boots the rest of the week. However, my garden looks lovely.

message 705: by Jane (new)

Jane (bookworm40) | 29 comments Bought flip flops today (Bogof) will I ever be able to wear them ?

message 706: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 87 comments No, you should use them as oven gloves instead.

I have to say that flip-flops are a very strange thing to have on BOGOF.

message 707: by Jane (new)

Jane (bookworm40) | 29 comments 2 pairs for the price of one .. Bargain

message 708: by Louise (new)

Louise should I be ashamed to say, that for a long time I thought this was a joke in the shoe shop??
as in buy one shoe, get a second one free (because we all like something for nothing)
hadnt realised they meant PAIR!!!!!

I can laugh at myself thankfully....
it took me longer to get the shaun the sheep gag from Wallace and Gromit

message 709: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3465 comments I laughed so much at Shaun the sheep, I also liked the penguin in disguise.

ha, not the first time I have heard this... I like to think of it as "special"

:)

message 712: by Dave (new)

Dave Wood (pocket7976) | 775 comments So I went into Cardiff yesterday with every intention of buying myself a Kindle.

However I was lured into the bright shiny Apple store and found myself outside again with an iPad in hand and considerably less money in my bank account.

I think it's a good but through I can still read books, and more importantly comic books look great on it :)

message 713: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3465 comments Wow. What have you put on it?

message 714: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 87 comments Photos of himself probably, he looks the type.

message 715: by Dave (new)

Dave Wood (pocket7976) | 775 comments Helen - so far lots of video stuff BBC iPlayer etc. and book/comic book readers. Have spent most of the afternoon looking through the kindle and marvel apps - its far to easy to buy on things on here :)

Michael - no pictures of me on my precious iPad please, worried they might crack the screen, or possibly scare young children.

Oh no! Is it cold at the moment? I'm coming home for a visit next week. I'm really excited, but not looking forward to being chilled to the bone. (After three years in the tropics, I have gone soft....)

Guess I'll have to pack for all four seasons (as usual!)

message 717: by Dave (new)

Dave Wood (pocket7976) | 775 comments It can't seem to make its mind up at the moment Liz. A glorious day here in Wales today but the weekend was freezing!!

message 718: by Em (new)

Em (emmap) | 2707 comments Supposed to be nice this week... who can say for sure?! It was chilly over the weekend, but lovely today as Dave says.

Nick 2E0NAQ (nick196742) | 630 comments Hi everyone, sorry that I haven’t been very active; I have had a lot on my mind and I have been busy. My English tutor told me on Monday that on the 18th June I am going to sit my G&C English level 1 exam. About Two weeks ago I sat the mock and only got 36 out of 40.

Good luck with the exam, Nick:)

Angela (bookangel2) | 706 comments Had a perfect afternoon yesterday - sitting in the garden, reading, with a cup of tea:)

message 726: by Deanne (new)

Deanne | 651 comments Good luck Nick.

Just discovered I can download books from Project Gutenberg onto my kindle, alsorts of weird books that are out of print or hard to find.
Found another second-hand bookshop in Leicester, books everywhere and pictures often hanging from shelves making it hard to look at some books. However the owner also mentioned that the basement is twice the size and if I give them a list of books they'll be able to check down there for me. Less than 100 books on the 1001 books to read list left.

Dave Wood (pocket7976) | 775 comments Good luck Nick.

Anyone planning on seeing the Olympic torch?

message 729: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3465 comments 36/40 sounds good to me Nick. How many do you need to pass? Good luck.

Saw it yesterday by accident while stuck in traffic waiting for it to come up the road at Trowbridge. Biggest farce out, looked more like a giant Mr Whippy icecream to me and wasn't even real! What a waste in my opinion.

message 733: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3465 comments Was on the local news yesterday. Some village have planned parties etc aound it journeying through their village but that leg consists of the torch travelling in a van.

I am hoping to see it in Wolverhampton on June 30th!

message 735: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 87 comments I hope the torch isn't being taken through any thatched-roofed villages. They might catch fire.

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments Michael wrote: "I hope the torch isn't being taken through any thatched-roofed villages. They might catch fire."

I doubt it it hasn't got a real flame!

message 737: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 87 comments Really? Well that's a bit of a swizz.

It's that sort of thing that people hate Boris Johnson for.

It's actually going right past my flat on 1st June but tbh couldn't be less interested.

message 739: by Helen (new)

message 740: by Dave (new)

Dave Wood (pocket7976) | 775 comments Lol shame about the village and the van :)

I've been lured to see the torch with the promise of a weather spoons breakfast!! 7am Saturday morning what fool organised that!!

message 741: by Michael (new)

Michael Parker (michaelparker) | 95 comments Don't forget; my giveaway ends tomorrow. If you haven't already done so, why not put your name down for A COVERT WAR? It's a cracking read with good reviews. Failing that, you can pick it up free on Kindle this Sunday together with NORTH SLOPE.

message 742: by Dave (new)

Dave Wood (pocket7976) | 775 comments Saw the torch being handed over/lit, quite interesting and made be feel strangely patriotic.

Then on to Barry Island for an early morning breakfast :)

Wot! Not a fan of the Jubilympics? :))

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments Not a fan of the olympics myself either and as I was working for the Salvation Army in London on the Silver Jubilee and missed it all I am making the most of this one.

Have decorated my porch and my big doll is dressed to kill in little Union Jack socks, sunglasses and baseball cap, and red white and blue rugby shirt! She looks very cool!

Liking the doll image Lynne.

Looking forward to Saturday as my brass band is off 'overseas' to Sommerset to play at a Jubillee party.

message 747: by Robert (new)

Robert Clear (robertclear) | 26 comments It's been a sea of Union Jacks here, so there's no forgetting the Jubilee. Actually I find myself quite a fan of the bunting, so I'm in favour of it staying on as a permanent fixture!

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments @Dave where in Somerset are you playing? It's the next county to me. I am near Bath/Frome/Wincanton/Glastonbury part of Somerset.

We haven't got a lot of Jubilee bunting around here, but I do like it too. It's like Christmas lights - I love to see the trees sparkling over Christmas and always feel sorry when they're turned off.

That sounds pretty good, Dave. Hope you have a great time. We haven't got anything planned really, but will probably have the family round for eats, drinks and general merry-making:)
