Well who DOES want a picture of some plastic bamboo? Whether its in a frame or not...

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments At least the hard work will be done by the time you get to moving Alicia!

message 4553: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments That's so true, Desley.

More and more of our former possessions have migrated to new owners, so the house can be painted and re-carpeted, etc., before putting it on the market.

It's a shadow of its former stuffed self, which is good. Decisions weren't as hard as I thought they might be. Yes, things were part of my life. But no, they did not fit in our new life-to-be under any circumstances, so we won't even have to transport much of it to the new place. We're going to be living in a house 'staged' for sale - to make the rooms look as big as possible by removing most of the contents.

A long as I can find socks in boxes.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, disturbed night sleep, bunion decided also to be painful. Raining here, food shopping after work.

Glad it hasn't been as hard as expected Alicia

Lindsay (kiwi365) | 3672 comments Morning all,

Well it finally came to a hard at work yesterday. I told them i needed help or i was going to have to seriously consider looking for a new job. They told me that maybe i should. They then sent an email confirming my resignation (which i had not given) we had a discussion in which they proceeded to tell me everything was my fault and that it would be better if i just left.

Nothing like feeling wanted is there!

Hope everyone else is doing better than me

message 4556: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Oh, Lindsay! The ratbags. I hope they find out how much you do when they really can't replace you.

Off into town this morning. Can't remember the last time we went.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments TGIF. Long weekend, this little boy is like the girl with the curl, he’s a super little boy, but when he doesn’t want to do something dynamite won’t budge him. Like leaving the kiddies play park yesterday. I walked home with him screaming behind me. Fortunately the park is only behind our house and it’s not on the road. It’s football fields, allotments and tennis courts so I could happily trot off knowing he couldn’t go anywhere or near traffic. He’s too heavy now for me to carry him. I’ll have to take rope and a whip if I’m daft enough to go again.

message 4558: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning everyone. Clear today but grey all round.

That's rotten, Lindsay. Hope you find something better soon.

message 4559: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Morning everyone and May the Fourth be with you!

Returned yesterday from a wifi-less holiday and now feel as if my life is functioning in all dimensions again! (It was my fault - I'd stayed there before and assumed it would still be available.)

I used up my minimal mobile data allowance in our retirement bungalow searches. Alas, the ideal property wasn't in the ideal place, so the search will continue once we've managed to sell here and there is absolutely no telling how long that will take.

So pleased for your good news , Patti - and a belated Happy Birthday, by the way.

Hope you're continuing to feel progressively better, Will. That was some shock to come back to!

Sounds as if you may have a case for claiming constructive dismissal, Lindsay. Copy all emails and make notes of all conversations! And yes, what a horrible situation to be in. Any chance of returning to your previous employers?

Off to the supermarket now, assuming we can find our way through the murk.

message 4560: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments It is a long weekend, and it isn't raining.

Is this an alternative universe?

message 4561: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Lindsay, that sounds entirely like constructive dismissal to me. If you've been there over 2 years you should take legal advice.

Alicia, I have to start clearing this place shortly as the next buyer (the fifth one!) might actually complete, unless their end of the chain collapses. I'm not looking forward to it.

message 4562: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay (kiwi365) | 3672 comments Thanks all,

Sound like buggers to me. Maybe the threat of a tribunal would make them think again or at least a half reasonable severance offer seeing as you didn't actually resign - maybe a constructive dismissal threat?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh Lindsay, that is just horrid!

I'm with Jim on the harsher language. Glad you're seeing a solicitor.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments That is horrible Lindsay and so unfair.

Hello everyone! I got to go to a demo this morning so only really getting in to work now and it is lunchtime! Plus Monday off. Woop!

message 4569: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Problem is, after that, would you still want to work with them again? I'd create a legal stink till they had to agree you still work there, but find another job ASAP and drop them in it.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments So sorry to hear that Lindsay, do hope the solicitor finds a way for you to claim, and good luck finding something new.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Blimey everyone's been busy, commiserations with Will trying to sell on Amazon. Congratulations on new jobs, more commiserations to anyone, at all, who has to pack anything. Happy holidays to those having them.

Have spent the last two days sorting out a spat between my parents and their neighbours. Neighbours have been a bit naughty but it's done now so we have to move on. I think the problem may, possibly, be the contractors they're using who are coming over as very pleasant people but just no people skills. Two sets of people swearing blind they've spoken to my Mum. One definitely has approached her once but talked about 'tidying up' a hedge when he really meant razing. He and contractor both swear they took Mum down to said hedge and went through it and that she's forgotten. Once I could believe but three times? No, she'd have remembered. Also contractor says he spoke to her on a day when it would have actually been physically impossible to get her alone. Contractors blocked their drive - could have parked 10 yards further up and we would have been able to get round going over the lawn. Wouldn't move, said they couldn't so I asked them to leave. They'd finished so I let them clear up first.

However, there's no point calling the neighbours out on it because having razed the hedge and left it looking like the aftermath of the Somme they have to drill out the stumps and put a new hedge in.

One more phone call to make and then it's done. Jeez it takes so much emotional energy sorting out this shite.

Have told the neighbour that from now on he needs to talk to me about any work to be done, not my folks.

Now it's mostly done I'm going to write for 40 minutes!

Cheers

MTM

Lindsay (kiwi365) | 3672 comments Thanks all,

They are offering me a settlement deal so i am taking it and my evidence to the solicitor next week to go through it.

I just want out of there now. It is making me a complete mess with he stress and anxiety.

message 4575: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments If they're offering you a deal, they must be realizing they messed up.

Just be sure, if you decide to take the deal, not to miss the deadline. Taking it to a solicitor is very smart.

message 4576: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) If I remember rightly, settlement deals have to be seen by an independent solicitor to be legally valid?
Hope you're not stuck with them much longer, Lindsay.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Well that's total pish Lindsay and you will be well shot of them when you go. Give Dexter extra big squeezes over the weekend, that'll make you feel better.
Ditto pish for you Mary, nothing is ever simple is it. Your boy is possibly too big for squeezes but I'd give him one anyway!
Good luck with the sale Will, fifth one's the charm (or something)

Was a bit embarrassing last night when half a dozen armed police turned up to rescue us from being attacked..... by a patient who was happily sat on the sofa watching tv!!! No idea where that message got garbled!!

Oh yes, Jim, I sometimes help out with The Salvation Army foodbank and I take them all sorts of things, not only food. I try to remember to buy them something during the weekly food shop, but I've forgotten again today. Sigh. Must try harder. They like men's clothes (for the homeless) but wrestling them off my husband is not always easy...

However, spring has sprung and packing away our winter woollies will get difficult so, once again, The S.A. will get whatever I can't cram into the 'winter cupboard'.

L.A. Kent | 3925 comments Morning all. Lovely day here again. Getting the BBQ out today - chicken marinated in a wonderful Spanish preserved lemon concoction - spatchcocked and cooked for about 45 minutes! With BBQd red pepper and courgette salad.

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Lindsay - that's horrible. Virtual hugs and best wishes across the ether.

I had something similar once and eventually decided that it was time to leave that organisation. It felt wrong not to fight it, but it had got to the point where I didn't respect them any more. I didn't want to work there.

At the time it felt like a scary thing to do, but I quickly found another (better) job and never looked back. Fingers crossed it works out for you.

Good morning all. We're off to do battle with one of the Best Boy's teachers. The crap one.

message 4588: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Give him/her hell, Will!

Lovely here today. We ate breakfast out in the garden. I foresee much weeding today. Tomorrow we'll visit our Best Boy(s) at the seaside, where the breeze blows the heat away and before you know it - sunburn!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments It might be sunny but unfortunately it’s hiding behind thick grey odd looking cloud. Almost fog.
Have a good day all.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments I'm supposed to be working on getting my eBooks into paperback - but it's sunny and wouldn't it be a crime to ignore that? So I've sat in the garden and a taken a tea break. Bit of a misnomer as I haven't yet started the paperback...

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Phew, much better pain wise today - when I went shopping yesterday, sciatica got that bad it was going down into my ankle (only consolation is it's my bad foot!!) and I didn't have anything to drink to take a painkiller, then got snarled up in traffic and foot kept going tingly. Got home to find my neighbour hadn't gone out and wanted to go out for tea, but I was in so much pain it was making me feel sick, so I stayed home, then when they got back we had a chat out on the street, and other neighbours joined in. Jasper is loving the new cat enclosure, and was trying to make friends with Lucy yesterday, she wasn't that keen, even when he was mewing at her. Took strong painkillers at 9.30, woke up at 1 in pain and had to take more, but feel much better today, although slightly dopey. Sun is shining and decided rather than go to Manchester shopping, I'm going to do a bit of housework, then sit outside and read until I go to the doggy park with my friend at 4.30. Neighbour wants a barbecue, I'm not fussed.

Good luck getting through to the teacher Will. I think it would be a big crime Anna.

message 4592: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Good luck with the teacher, Will. Crap teachers are a crime against humanity, whilst good ones are a blessing and a boon.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Amazing thing last night, Harrison was howling something amazing. I rushed through to the kitchen thinking he'd snagged a claw on the stairs and dislocated something to find him trying to smash his way out through the cat flap with a full body bog brush on! Was amazed. Not sure what was out there or whether it or Harrison smashed the flap. I've taped it back together with framer's tape. I reckon some clear perspex and a glue gun should have it fixed. He seems perfectly happy today and I couldn't see what it was. I'm assuming another cat as we are on an island surrounded by roads and flint walls so I'm not sure a fox could get in.

Whatever it was, his meow has gone really low and scratchy sounding today. I reckon he's yelled himself hoarse shouting 'fuck off out of it!' in cat at whatever it was!

message 4594: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm glad you didn't get between Harrison and whatever it was, Mary.

I still carry a scar from doing that when I was a teenager.

I made steak n thrice cooked chips n peas for dinner. Even whipped up pepper sauce.

Dave said it was better than any steak meal he's ever had in any pub.

I reckon he only said that cuz it was a damn sight cheaper than any steak meal he's ever had in any pub.

I'm pleased to see/hear you're having lovely weather at the moment.
Enjoy it while it lasts!

The advantage of doing so is that once you've done it once, the whole process is demystified, and no big deal, for the next time. Yes, it takes work the first time, but little changes, and it's much easier the next.

You can do it after a nice day enjoying the garden.

message 4600: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments We chicken keepers know they can 'climb' a seven foot chainlink fence. My chicken run has weldmesh buried at the bottom with brick paths around it, seven foot high and the roof is meshed too, with a corrugated cover on top of that. A bit Fort Knox but we've not lost a hen to the fox I occasionally see crossing the paddock behind us.
