Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments As we say back home, at least you won't have to shovel it.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Yo everyone. Just surfaced from the joys of Lasting Power of Attorney form filling to do a blog post and say hello. Now back to the crap!

Here's the blog post if it's not spam. I know Patty or Ro will delete it if it is.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Patty?

Funny that. I've just been taking the piss out of Dave for the way he pronounces 'burger'.

It's not spam if was gonna link to it anyway.

I shall read it and see...

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Thanks Patti :)

Went to a local Remembrance parade and service, was brilliant to see how many people there were. Revision time this afternoon though!!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Had a really good morning, little grandson loved his cake, he blew his candles out and really told his mum off for eating the dinosaur poop. I got told to sit down and watch the birthday when it was time to come home. He’s a sweetheart.
It’s turned quite cold here with hail showers.

message 356: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Did you get a photo of the cake, Lynne?

I do hope so!

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) It turned out well then Lynne?
Off to see the new Tiger Bay Musical tomorrow night in the Millennium Centre. The excerpts look good - so I hope it lives up to the hype.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I'd like a dinosaur cake I think.

Goodness me but it was Baltic here today. Blowing a hoodie and into minus windchill. The afternoon constitutional was considerably shorter than originally planned!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Interesting autocorrect there. Hoodie of course should be hoolie!

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) I did wonder if it was a typo or a foreignism!

message 361: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Yep, miserable, raining and windy here today as well. Spent the morning reading A Time to Change by Callie Longridge (loved it), the afternoon watching the first series of Preacher (cool) and early evening faffing on social media. Fab day!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I didn’t take a photo I should have but I forgot my phone. I asked OH and hadn’t taken any photos. Typical! I think Harry ‘s Dad video’d it. It’s all gone anyway as they took it to his other grandparents as well.
My poor great niece has been in surgery this afternoon again. Baby seems to be improving, he’s still full of tubes but mum is quite poorly.

message 363: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Aww shame you didn't get a photo. I know Kath especially enjoys dinosaur poop.

Good morning!

Just went round and watered all my house plants. They were looking rather droopy.

Pea soup in the slow cooker for dinner.

Not much on today's agenda. Might go out for coffee.

message 364: by Will (new)

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Morning all.

What a weird night! At 10.00 in the evening there was a knock at the door. A drunk Irishman asked to borrow a phone so he could call his mother. His story was that he had got split up from some friends and didn't know where he was.

I was moderately suspicious but couldn't see the harm in letting him borrow the phone. He phoned his Mum. Eventually we worked out where he lived and I pointed him in the right direction for home. He staggered off.

Ten minutes later two policemen were at my door. Had I had a strange visitor? What did he want? Did he seem genuine?

I told them the story. They thanked me and left.

So now I am left wondering. Was my night time guest genuinely drunk and lost? Or was he up to something nefarious?

Odd, very odd.

message 365: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I think that's a story worthy of a blog post Will :-)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Morning all. More form filling for me and a trip to the gym am and the dentist pm. Not a very exciting day. My Mum and Dad eat Christmas cake and as we're going there this year I'll have to make one of those too. The stacks of folks who visit them will eat it. Doubt we will. Feeling a bit Bleargh about the whole thing. Have to make a birthday cake for mum big enough for 15 people this week too. One of those weeks you just have to wish away, basically and look forward to when all the work is done.

Still on the upside. McOther, McMini and I have a new metal detector and it's a beaut.

Sorry about the Patty, Patti. I'm an active member of two groups each run by differently spelled Patti/y s :-)

message 367: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yeah, you mentioned that before, Mary.

No worries. I know you meant me. :)

message 368: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments That's odd, Will. Perhaps the guy had knocked on someone else's door who called the cops.

I hope he got home safe.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Morning all, tired but don't think I've got much on at work. Very cold here.

Good luck with your week MT. What an odd situation Will

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Very odd Will, couldn't help thinking of that Only Fools and Horses episode, in the creepy cottage!

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Morning all. Not in the valley this morning, so I couldn't say, but It's bright and crisp and freezing in Carmarthen! Change of venue for the day, covering English, so that'll be interesting.

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments As Gaff says, Sir Gar is bloody freezing (but very pretty) this morning

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Freezing here as well! Apparently 2 degrees outside, but it feels so much lower...

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good morning, saw some Brexit news about Barnier threatening the dogs passport scheme. Guaranteed to get steam coming out of OH ‘s ears. At least I shan’t need to put the heating on. He’s flying to France tomorrow and it’s one if those did I do the right thing moments. The Tunnel is in chaos with essential repairs and they are telling people to find other means of crossing the channel. We could have been really in a bind if we’d have gone together in the car last week.

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) ✿Claire✿ (Tiny Owl) wrote: "Very odd Will, couldn't help thinking of that Only Fools and Horses episode, in the creepy cottage!"

Great minds think alike Claire - that crept into my mind as I was reading it too. ;-)

message 376: by Will (new)

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Just spoken to my neighbour who tells a similar story. The same man knocked on his door and asked first if this was the right place to watch the war film. Then he asked to borrow a mobile phone charger.

My neighbour said he was freaked out by this. He called the police.

Ho hum. What a strange one.

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) It would be great to find out if he was genuine or up to something - I think you should do some super-sleuthing on our behalf Will - it sounds like we're all intrigued!!!

message 378: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Thank goodness he's flying, Lynne!

Get your deerstalker on, Will!

I've just been asked to cover a class of 8-9 year olds on Thursday and Friday. I do enjoy that age.

message 379: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Bizarre story Will, maybe he was doing one of those drunk games where you have to knock on doors and either ask for or get various bits of stuff and the person who gets back to the lock in with the most items wins.... or something. ;-)

There was a story of a drunken Scotsman doing something similar in Texas, except the guy didn't open the door, he just took a shot through the wood to scare the guy away. He turned out to be a better shot than he thought and the Scotsman died of his wounds.

Moral of the story, don't knock on strangers' doors! Now I'm thinking Misery ... aaaargh!

Cheers

MTM

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Good luck for OH journey Lynne. It was 0 in the car this morning, and everyone is complaining the office is cold, I must still be running a temperature, I'm fine. Getting more intriguing Will.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments It was trying to snow here earlier. Very very cold. Still managed an hour and a half of community gardening though and we really enjoyed our cuppa at the end!

message 382: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Tell them to bring an extra jumper tomorrow, Desley.

Rooms that are too hot are breeding grounds for germs. I've been trying to explain that to the teaching assistants here for years.

Morning all

How is it Monday already?

message 384: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Yeah, tell them to jumper up, Desley. Office temperatures drive me mental during the winter, day to day veers from arctic blasts to melting heat.

Chilly walk home from work tonight. It takes a brisk 35 minutes. When I got home my hands were tingling as they defrosted. Note to self: remember gloves.

Going to see Murder On The Orient Express tomorrow night with my mother-in-law and two friends. Having a bite to eat first. Anyone seen the movie yet?

message 385: by M.T. (last edited Nov 13, 2017 01:02PM) (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I saw the original Murder on the Orient Express. It was good but Murder on the Nile was better. Presumably they'll be remaking that one soon.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Our office is really bad for a relatively new building, it got really cold after 4, I did start struggling to type.

Ooh, let me know what you think Kelly

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Good morning!

Must go shopping today. Wish the supermarket was open 24 hours. I'd go now while it's quiet.
Mustn't complain.
At least we have a decent supermarket nearby now.

No idea what sort of weather we'll have. It's still dark.

Now it will have to be the next owners' problem - if we ever get this place on the market.

Good morning, you need moisture like we have in Wales for moss, Alicia, It’s a nuisance here, very slippery when it’s wet.
I’m up early as OH has left for the airport. I think I’ll be on double dog walks as I don’t think I can manage two together.
I’m really chuffed, my cake went down so well, they took it to Harry’s other grandparents and Bampy loved it. I joked to my daughter I’ll make him one the same for his birthday and she said Yes please. When is it? This weekend. I didn’t expect that but I did offer.

message 391: by Will (new)

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Good morning all. No more late night callers ... I'm actually feeling a little disappointed.

Everyone have a good one.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Morning all, raining here and headache is still lingering. Friend is bringing me a present after work and seeing the fosters.

Glad the cake went down so well Lynne, good luck on the next one

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning all! There was a blazing fire on the local Metro line near us, so I was worried the trains would be off this morning, but it turns out it was only the bike racks.

message 394: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning, each! I spent yesterday in the company of a great friend, Jonathan Hill, back in my old home town - and oh, how it's changed!
Here in my adopted home it's a bit misty today but I'm going to get my raspberries in. They came while we were in Mcr yesterday. Postman lobbed them over the fence. Good job they weren't eggs!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning all. it's actually a lovely day today which is a surprise after yesterday's wintry-ness. I've been out watering the planters on the High Street - all were dry as a stick. The wind dries everything out.

Jim | 21809 comments Benjamin wrote: "Morning all! There was a blazing fire on the local Metro line near us, so I was worried the trains would be off this morning, but it turns out it was only the bike racks."

There was a three car crash on the A590, air ambulance called in, the works.
The road was closed for four hours and avoiding the crash site means either struggling through single track lanes (not recommended when everybody is doing the same thing from the other direction) or diverting via Ambleside and Broughton to stick to the A roads. (The A590 is the only road south of Lakes Windermere and Coniston and north of the Sea.)
So a 34 minute trip takes 1h 47 minutes

And at regular intervals somebody in the NHS tries to close the Maternity hospital in Barrow because we can use the one in Lancaster!

See what I did there?

message 398: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) That's ridiculous, Jim. I'm surprised you didn't give up and head home!

message 399: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Benjamin wrote: "That's ridiculous, Jim. I'm surprised you didn't give up and head home!"

I was lucky, I wasn't caught in it. But the problem is geography. There is one A road that cuts between the lakes and the sea.

To do anything about it you'd have to put a new road with major bridges with the heart of the National Park (like over Windermere and Coniston) which is never going to happen, or shove a bridge across Morecambe Bay and the estuary
(And the environmental impact assessment alone would bankrupt the highways people)
