Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Afternoon, I was supposed to be having my face to face eye check this pm, they rang this morning to cancel as the doc wasn't in, but they couldn't say when they would be able to re-arrange it, I'm destined not to have this, I'm lucky that I don't feel I need it, they had to reschedule the entire clinic this morning, there must have been people not quite as lucky as me. Gloomy today.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening all, an hour later, but I did at least get my rheumatology app, I mentioned the intermittent pins and needles, he thinks it might be carpal tunnel, but to get that sorted, I have to go through the GP so might leave that for a bit. He did say he would book me in for a face to face app, even though they are happy with my answers. It's just started raining here. I may have ordered myself a wax melt box yesterday, told my sister-in-law who liked them, so the candle shop are going to work out how much it would cost to post to Jersey, seeing as we don't know when either of us will be able to fly.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Afternoon, we actually have blue skies today! Just been to the candle shop, unfortunately the sandwich man had rang in sick today, so didn't get my lunch. Was annoyed with my neighbour though, she'd asked me to get a box for her as a present for her friend, didn't specify what colour burner she wanted and didn't like the one I chose (went for white), no thanks for getting it or offer to pay, just would I go back and swap it for a different colour! I said no actually, which didn't go down well

Jim | 21809 comments I confess I was genuinely surprised at how rude the person was!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, currently dry, but supposed to rain. Walking today, then need to drop my sis's presents off, her birthday is tomorrow, but doing it today so she has them to open. It was very nice to go to local shops to buy presents, rather than rely on Amazon, and rather than get a traditional birthday cake, I've got her a tray bake box from a local cafe. Annoyingly yesterday I was supposed to take something back to Asda and collect something from M & S, but at 1pm, M & S e-mailed to say there was a delay. I still went to Asda, made the mistake of popping in CEX to look for a specific DVD and managed to spend £35!

I was annoyed with her, if she'd asked nicely, I'd have happily gone back, ironically it worked out better for her and the shop that I said no, as when she went back, she got an ice cream which she really enjoyed. She did at least thank me yesterday for the errands she asked me to do and finally paid for everything

Happy hot saturday everybody!

Having played all our cricket games so far in cold, wet and windy madness, we finally get a warm day and don't have a fixture!

In other news, we are starting our camping sojourn in the mother-in-law's garden as of tomorrow. Can't beat a bit of Walden!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments I'm inclined to at least try to be kind - everyone is still under huge stress - but I think I'd preface it by, "That was rude. It's not like you. Are you okay?" and be prepared for them to burst into tears.

Ah, modern life.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning all, nice sunny day. We are planning on going to Haworth for a craft fair, was slightly disappointed when my neighbour said she her lodgers were coming as well. Forgot to mention, ratty neighbour had to come on Fri to pick up a parcel I'd taken in, she had two of her rats in her fleece, I was really shocked that Lucy didn't seem to smell them, she just walked past her and ignored her!

Well, she was at it again yesterday, just complaining that she couldn't get two places of cake and expected me to complain to the shop, think I might start 'forgetting' to tell her where I'm going and use her trick of 'sorry, didn't know I was going till I got there'

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments The weather and I have fallen out. Thick, thick haar for the second day in a row. That's not playing fair at all as it should only happen AFTER two or three days of hot sunny days.

Desley you should ask your neighbour if she wants some polish for that brass neck!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Morning, had a nice afternoon yesterday, we went to the candle shop for ice cream on the way (neighbour paid as she remembered she owed me money!), first time I've had an ice cream and would definitely have another. I was naughty in Haworth and came back with some wax melts, a lovely shop that did all handmade things, I got Hemlock and neighbour got a Deadly Nightshade candle. Didn't get to mooch round shops as much as I'd like, but we did manage to get a pub meal. Lucy did ruin the nice day by catching a fledgling at 9pm, I'd heard a commotion, but before I could get up, she ran in the house with something in her mouth and my reaction made her fly upstairs, so I had to try and stop her taking it under the bed. Told her this morning that better be the only bird she brings home. Trying to finish chores this morning so I can spend the afternoon sat outside reading.

Hope you get some decent weather now R

Glad the neighbour is behaving better. Sympathies re Lucy. McCat caught a pigeon the other day. I could hear him playing with something and I knew it was a bird because he was being furtive. We have managed to rescue blackbirds from him but this pigeon was very dead. I still haven't told McOther as he'll lose his biscuits bless him.

I used to worry about McCat eating small furry and feathered people, but while I try to discourage it, he and his ilk are probably killing less or our songbirds than grey squirrels which, sadly, though cute are omnivorous and eat baby birds, small song birds and eggs in a way the red ones they have superceeded didn't.

Friend moved to New Mexico (rural, high dessert). Cat demanded its rights - got let out. Coyote got it. Cycle of life - if gruesome. To us.

Possibly, but here we have grey squirrels, who are omnivorous and eat a lot of baby birds, eggs and small song birds. Obviously the red ones they replaced were herbivores so our song birds aren't set up to defend themselves against squirrels. There's not many natural predators to them either and of course unlike parts of the US where you still have your Apex predators, ours are gone so there is nothing eating the foxes and badgers - hence our hedgehog population is dying out. Originally humans were the apex predator but we're too squeamish to kill the surplus foxes, badgers, magpies, jays etc and they all eat song birds. Plus we're digging up their habitat; hedgerows. So ... cats are probably just the icing on the cake.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening all, glad it was a lovely day this morning, as we'd had a scheduling issue and we all had to stand outside waiting for a keyholder to appear to let us in. Got to sit outside reading in my lunch hour as well.

Yes, I did read a few years ago that the thought that cats are the major loss of songbirds is incorrect, I actually think the real cause was humans ruining their habitats. Neighbour put a very loud bell on her cat, but it hasn't stopped him this year, we think he found the nest and was taking them out, no bell will stop that.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, feel a bit of a demic today, have done something to my good foot, the base of my big toe is so swollen I can't bend my toe, and the swelling is across the top of my foot too, think I must have been gripping my sandals when walking up the steep cobbled hill on Sun! And I've got a rash where my necklace was, must have got either sweat or suncream trapped between it and my skin. Been warm today, but quite windy and overcast, so was nice sitting in the house, but not as nice outside.

message 15579: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments would it be worth washing the necklace gently with warm soapy water or something that isn't going to damage it. Just in case there isn't a residue or something stuck to it that's the problem?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Afternoon, sounded like we had a bit of thunder last night, we are forecast rain, but not seen any yet, but sky is going a bit grey. Foot didn't keep me up, it felt fine when I woke up but by the time I'd fed the cats it was a different matter, so I'm not going for a wander at lunch, as I go to the co-op on a Thu and think that will be enough for my foot. Rash is much better too fortunately.

Thanks Jim, hadn't thought of doing that - I'd obviously washed my skin. I've just rinsed it with plain water, there was nothing obvious on it.

Jim | 21809 comments The reason I suggested it is that I have a cross my daughter gave me and I wear it round my neck on a bit of cord. I found that it helps if I wash the cord with soap and water occasionally otherwise it can start to itch etc

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments I'm always impressed at the quantity of human grease that must be removed from the face of the tablet and iPhone. And that's without ever using them with fingers that feel greasy.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I should probably wash my fitness tracker strap more. Am going to put a different necklace on next, hopefully tomorrow, it's not been itchy at all today.

Just had a bit of a debate with my neighbour, she tried giving me a thank you for all the shopping/errands I've done recently, and I refused to take it (I told her when she got me thank you's after her op that it was too much and I wouldn't take any more when she has her next surgery, unless she gives a donation to charity) - I was relieved to know she does appreciate me running round for her, but don't want/need a gift for it. She tried saying I should accept it because she wants to show her appreciation, but I pointed out that isn't respecting my wishes that I don't need gifts for doing things (and have already tried a few years ago stopping buying gifts when we go on hol, just accept we do it for each other, but she refused). She did randomly bring up that I used to get her little bits when I went places and stopped, I did point out that I mainly go out places with her now.

She may realise she was a bit out of order and is wanting to make amends.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Urgh, despite the pain and swelling in my foot being better, it's now making me feel sick. Nipping to the candle shop after work, as neighbour wants eggs (their latest venture, eggs from a local farm!), and I haven't been since Sun, so getting withdrawal symptoms! We've had one of the 4 cat food deliveries so far, second is due in the next 10 mins, no idea when the other two are coming, but we only ordered on Wed lunch.

Hmm, I'm not sure about that MT, it is a lovely gesture, I don't like accepting gifts when for the majority of the time, I'm not going out of my way, I'm getting her stuff from where I'm going anyway

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I ended up getting her some lemon drizzle cake today as her back was bad and she was fed up, but she wouldn't accept it unless I took hers. I relented as it was more a swap, but told her that I didn't want any more in the future, as being given thank you's for doing shopping and errands makes me uncomfortable. Ironically, she'd said that it was something I'd had my eye on and would kick myself if she sent it back, but it wasn't - I'm after a new yellow rice style bowl, this was a pack of two small bowls that are way too small for what I want, so I gave her them back and asked if she could get her money back, as the alternative was being donated, I have too many bowls the wrong size already. I appreciate it sounds a bit ungrateful, but her returning for a refund will be better than either never being used or given to charity.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Evening, had a really nice day, even if I got woken up at 5.45 by birds. I had contemplated not going for a walk today due to my foot, but friend is going away next Sat, so won't see her for two weeks, so decided to go anyway. Foot has coped well, my other one has been burning a bit, think I've been walking differently. Randomly, my hand started swelling while we were out but calmed down once I got back, so neighbour thought it must have been heat related. Might feel differently in the morning, but not much to do. There was an artisan and food market in the local town, so went there after our walk, was quite disappointing, but had a nice chat with someone who was selling scented things, and seeing as she has 5 cats, I did buy something - she suggested some scented granules, which go in the burner, they are quite nice actually. Got some fudge from the fudge man (who's name I can't remember) and he was telling me some stuff that has happened in his life since I last saw him in Oct! There was a new resource centre that are letting you take up to 3 books/DVD's/CD's for free once a day, I got one book and one DVD, but did put £2 in the donation box. Annoyingly they had the book I'd been searching for and had to buy off e-bay in March, I knew I'd end up seeing it in a charity shop once I'd given up and bought it online. Food shopping on the way home and have managed to chill on the bed reading.

Weather forecast has changed, will now be cloudy rather than raining, so hoping my bedding will dry. At least if cloudy, I can still use my indoor reading spot.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Yay, nice to see you all back, felt like I was talking to myself! I went to the ice cream shop after work on Tue, they were doing an offer, turned out it was because they need a bigger freezer, so he was trying to get rid of some stock so they didn't have to take it home to store it! Really pleased they are so popular they need more space for it. Neighbour wants some eggs, so I've offered to go tomorrow so I can have a nosy at the new space. Was hoping to get takeaway pizza tonight, but looks like the place has decided to shut at 5pm every day, not just Mon-Wed. Been warm again today but overcast, so more just muggy than pleasant.

Glad the paintings are selling well R, and glad the trip went well this week MT
