M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments It was a bit like that here Desley, cold am and then mid afternoon I was sitting out in shirt sleeves with my trousers rolled up! Mwahahahargh!

Jim | 21809 comments Gorgeous day here
I had to go up to Penrith to deliver stuff and took the chance of going up through the lakes
Interestingly Bowness, Windermere and Ambleside were not all that busy (not as busy as I'd expect) but all the roadside parking along the roads was parked solid as walkers had already struck out for the tops.
Came back down the M6 and the A590 and frankly they were as busy as I'd expect.
My gut feeling is that so many people are back at work up here (we had a low level of furlough anyway) that traffic levels are back to normal

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Evening, had a training course on Mental Health First Aid this morning, was really interesting actually, first training course I've done over teams, I found being split in groups and put in breakout rooms really weird. Downside of being done on the computer is we got a 10 min break in the 3.5 hour training course. Dropped the car off after work for them to sort out the maintenance light, they think it might need a full service.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Thick mist this morning. Thick mist at midday. Mist this afternoon. I kept thinking the sun would burn it off. It didn't. Unusual.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Sod’s law innit? Really decided I must lose some surplus weight. Salad, salad and more salad this week and out if the blue I’ve just had an invitation to an enterprise to be one of their chocolate tasters.

message 15406: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Diet can wait? Chocolate taster is rare.

message 15407: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I've never even heard of a Chocolate taster. I assumed they just used taste panels

message 15408: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments I'd probably grant 5 stars to all chocolates, Lynne...

Brilliant sunshine early this morning, warm and wonderful to be out in. Now, at 8 a.m. it's more of that same dratted mist, can't see beyond a hundred yards and I'm not exaggerating.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Afternoon, training finished, not sure today's was harder on teams, as we were being shown an online system, so we'd have only been sat in a room with our computers in front of us. I apparently have been doing some things wrong for the last 6 years though, long time to change habits. Not heard from garage yet, as it was a simple thing, I'll probably just get told when I wander up after work.

I could have sworn I commented this morning Lynne, I'd forget the diet and take the opportunity to taste chocolate!

message 15410: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I hope it’s chocolate tasting by post as they’ve relocated. They can send as many samples as they want. I’m up for it.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Smart decision, Lynne.

The mist cleared eventually...

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Afternoon, car was rather expensive yesterday, they ended up doing a full service, which included changing 3 filters, so not sure which one it was asking for, rear wheel cylinder was sticking (didn't squeak on the way home) and they changed my windscreen wipers, which I keep forgetting to sort out (downside of using the car once a week!). Should be fine for a while though. Nice sunny day today, was hoping for a catch up day, but keep being asked to do tasks for people. Friend has invited me to the pub next week when I get paid, can't wait, can't remember the last time I went to a pub.

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments Well we're finally leaving little Tollesbury tomorrow after 15 years. Moving into the mother in laws then off to Bolivia when the world allows. Been off alcohol for 25 days now and have just written perhaps my first sober paragraph (in The Truth About Trees) since I was a teenager. Hope all of you are good and fine on this gorgeous Thursday on this crazy old planet of ours.

message 15415: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Glad to see you doing so well Stuart :-)

message 15416: by Stuart (new)

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments Thanks Jim. Final cricket friendly on saturday before the season starts. The one blessing from Covid 19 is that I don't have to do the traditional teas. Every cloud!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Good luck with the various moves Stuart

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Beautiful weather here again, 2nd vaccination tomorrow. Daughter has her first on Sunday but asked advice from her GP as her medical needs now are complex. He said there’s been some research done with sepsis survivors and the vaccine and has actually shown a slight improvement for them.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Evening all, another lovely day here. Was feeling a bit stiff, so went for a walk after work, and took my book, sat at the reservoir for a bit reading, but more painful after doing that!

Glad that daughter can have vaccination Lynne, hopefully she's one of the ones that gets an improvement, I was wondering earlier how she was doing, as you haven't mentioned them for a while

A lovely day here, too - I went out for a roll on Maggie with a friend in her electric wheelchair - and we had a great talk at the park in the middle. So good to get out.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning all, another nice day, and temps look better than expected. Not sure what time we are walking, as friend has an errand to do, so will do some housework while waiting, it's neighbours birthday today, but she didn't want to go out for a meal, we have some nice food from M & S, have to go and meet her son later to swap presents, although if it's as warm as expected, I might stay at home reading!

It is really good to get out Alicia

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good morning, scam phone call this morning purporting to be from Amazon saying our credit card was used for £300 and something pounds. American accent and the register showed international call. It could have been a uk mobile or an Indian number. Both networks have the number listed 07807181025. Don’t know what they wanted as OH put the phone down.
Daughters not much improved memory wise and the sepsis has affected her feet badly. To say she was a postie and so used to walking it’s hard for her physically and mentally - she’s trying hard though.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Aww, I can imagine that must be so hard for her Lynne

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Sorry to hear, Lynne. Somehow things are worse when they happen to our kids.

message 15427: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Sorry to hear it Lynne, it's a bit of a beggar really :-(

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning all, yesterday didn't go as planned, friend couldn't go for walk, so we are going today, and neighbours son asked if we could meet earlier, so I went with her. There had been an accident on the motorway causing a 5 mile queue, so we had to find a different way to come home, and found a massive retail park with a big M & S, so we called in, and I ended up with some new clothes - one pair of leggings were more expensive than I normally buy, so they will be for special occasions! At least I don't have to brave Primark for a while. Not as sunny today, but not a bad thing if we are walking, and it's bed making day, am finally putting the fleece sheet away and bringing out the normal sheet.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments It’s one of those things like any illness. The shock and fallout from it happening has been enormous. I never thought about meningitis in adults. Babies and youngsters, yes but until it happens it’s not really on the list if things you worry about. Traffic accidents, falling off her horse in the past but not that. Ironically she’s coping better with the inactivity because she’s also suffering from chronic fatigue. X
I’ve got a sore arm this morning but neither of us has any side effects from our jab.

message 15430: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Stuart, bless you mate! That's bloody fantastic. Keep at it and enjoy Bolivia.
Lynn that sounds harsh. I hope your daughter continues to improve though - I find with illness it helps to look at how far you've come rather than how far you have to go. Oh and sod the salad go chocolate tasting I say.
Jim, yeh, round here the two big employers are the hospital and the sugar factory, both of which are reserved occupations so they were always busy. But I think the bunch working in Cambridge are back to work now as well, not to mention the M25 corridor through Kent and Surry. Never mind. It was good while it lasted.

Have been a bit off social media everyone. Have been struggling a bit so decided to give writing and all that goes therewith a rest. It's helped. Am now proofing chapters of the next audiobook and sorting out plants for my Mum. Two of her team of three gardeners are doing cancer treatment so I've grown the seeds this year and am taking pots of baby plants down there each week. We are planting the cucumbers I took last week this Wednesday, I also have two courgettes for her and I'm hoping to take some tomato plants to her if there's room for the boy, the plants and his PE kit in my car. We shall see.

Cheers all ...

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments When you have family and people you care about you do worry about them all the time. But in my experience it's very rarely the things that you worry about that actually get you and deliver that kick in the stomach. Which is just a waste of a good worry.

But it is good to get out. And boy everyone was out in our seaside town today!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments It’s a beautiful day here again. I shall have to water plants as it’s so dry. I think this is our summer - if we get weather like this early in spring June - august is usually a washout. We’ve apparently had 9% of our usual rainfall in Wales. Not good for farmers is it.
Not as many people about here as there was in lockdown. Really odd that - have they all gone somewhere else?

My theory is that they must have all been locals who have had to go back to work! Enjoy the sun. :-)

message 15437: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Round here it's been noticeable that there were far fewer people about than during the first lockdown. But during first lockdown most of the people we saw walking must have been retiring age or thereabouts (at least)
So my unworthy suspicion is that those who worked kept working (less than 40% of working population furloughed round here, probably over 30% at the peak) and all the pensioners who couldn't meet up in coffee shops and garden centres had to go for healthy walks instead :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Evening, really enjoyed my walk yesterday, as my friend had no other plans, I sat in her garden for half an hour afterwards, finally met her youngest cat, who turned 2 last month, she's had her since she was 10 weeks old! Even her eldest cat, who's antisocial, came and rubbed my hand. Another nice day, but looks like rain - could do with it with the moorland fires. Slight disappointment though, that my pub trip has been put back a week.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Afternoon, not as much rain as expected, more cloudy with fine drizzle. I've been asked to swap my drugs and alcohol course, so I'm doing it this Thu instead. Currently waiting for my telephone appointment, this one isn't early, but I did get a reminder on Sun!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’m with Jim on that observation. They generally looked older and not the usual exercisers. We’ve now got some fit younger runners regularly but the old ‘uns and the flip flop wearers have vanished.
It was really like carnival day some days. Billy had a good bark at the odd bods. He really can sense something.
OH is painting the shed, the rat in residence is watching him. It is large, brown and insouciant, it went leisurely to the bird feeder, ate seeds and strolled back home. I’m not letting the dog near it. He’s such a softy and rats have disgustingly large teeth. I don’t want holes in my doggy.

message 15442: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments How do?

Go for it Stu. Another author friend of mine, an American, has been dry for 8 months. He fears he can't write now. 🙁

Been busy writing the next, and sorting the garden. Took me about a week to weed the raspberry bed. If I kneel down these days, getting up is a forklift job.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Yes, I definitely think that there aren't as many people walking now we can do other things, I don't know how long it will be till my friend has better things to do than walk every Sat, although football season ends next week, we always do more in between seasons, so I might be OK for a while longer.

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Covid vaccine appointments all booked!

It's back to licking windows and coughing in people's faces for me from Tuesday afternoon onwards.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Afternoon, I remembered to ring the roofer yesterday, good job as I had some weird dripping noises from the chimney last night, it isn't as blocked off as I thought when I pulled the electric fire out and felt air coming down it! No sign of recent water though, so wherever it was dripping it was hitting the false panel in the chimney breast. Will ask the roofer if he can cap it at the top. Had a seminar this morning, it was quite boring as I knew most of the stuff, but I didn't have to have camera or microphone on, so was able to play my game through it, and still made a page of notes!

message 15446: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments not having a camera is great for zoom ;-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments I forgot to mention about my eye app yesterday - it was for 12.15, at 1.30, I rang to ask what was happening, and got told they couldn't find him, so wasn't sure if he was still in clinic. At 4.15, I got a call saying he'd been in emergency surgery and he'd said I could have a face to face app if I wanted, so I asked when that would be - 27th May!! I said I'd take a phone app next week instead. She booked both, so if he felt it was worthwhile seeing me, I had something booked!! So hopefully third time lucky for next Fri.

Thanks Jim

I love the idea of making drugs and alcohol boring as a way of putting people off them :-)
