Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Well my friend didn't take my refusal very well yesterday, she is adamant she only has a cold, but I still didn't want to risk it. I managed to meet another friend for half an hour so got some exercise and conversation then went food shopping with my neighbour. also treated myself to hot choc and cake from the coffee shop. Going to go for a walk today and then a bit of housework

Sorry to hear that Jud, I love my paperwhite.

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments I think I'm on about my 9th Kindle which I think says more about my general chaos than it does about the durability of Kindles! I guess the same can be said for the fact I'm now on my 2nd wife!

Hope everyone is ok by the way!

Look on the bright side, obviously you take better care of your wives than you do of your kindles :-)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Ha! Jim, I laughed at that more than I care to admit (please note that I have indirectly done so anyway!).

I'm having a real hate technology evening which is only fair after a day where everything stressed me out until I got the kids to the park. Trying to make up for the lack of work done earlier though but technology is not making it easy.

Think I'll get the standard kindle, no one I've asked seems to think the extra money is worth the difference for the paperwhite

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Isn’t it the light on the paper white. I like the light.
Can’t watch the last few minutes of the France /Wales match. Too exciting.
There’s been a walrus arrived on the beach in Pembrokeshire. Think he’s gone back in the water but he looked in very good condition and quite relaxed.

The standard reply: "I know you're delicate right now, and I don't want to expose you to anything," may work better as a refusal, but no one has the right to put you at risk or make you uncomfortable. Glad you stuck to your guns.

And how could she possibly be sure?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning, we kind of had a lazy morning. Not much to do today, sun is trying to shine. I got an app through yesterday to have my eyes photographed - I suspect this is the thing I should have done on a regular basis due to one of my medications which the NHS have never done, luckily Specsavers do on my eye tests! Did my census yesterday, only took 5 mins. I also had a lovely ramble somewhere I've never been before, although there was a steep hill involved, so not something I'll do that often!

I just told her I didn't want to risk it, and how did she know it was only a cold - apparently it originated from her nephew (who is school age) which made me feel even worse! I did say to my neighbour that even in normal times, I'd be wary of spending a decent amount of time with someone with a cough in case I picked it up

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Afternoon, very weird to think that lockdown started a whole year ago, and we are still in lockdown. I took part in the silence, the first song the radio played after was 'You'll Never Walk Alone' which I thought was quite touching.

message 15259: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I confess I'm not sure if I even knew there was a silence :-(

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I had heard something about it, but wasn't sure when it was supposed to be, and anyway I've spent the last year reflecting on covid/lockdown so didn't feel the need to join in anyway.
Terribly cold wind here again. Summer one day, winter the next.

Makes me wonder what else I miss. Are we all still on Planet Earth?

I wanted to take part in the silence but I was in transit with McOther because he had taken his car to the garage where they'd told him they would repair it while he waited, but when he got there they told him to piss off until tomorrow. It's a 71 mile round trip so by the time I'd got here and we'd popped into a friend's wine shop down there the church bell was ringing just as I got home.

I'll just have to do it on Thursday on my own. I've been crap this Lent, haven't done anything like that.

Mwahahahrgh! Winter every day down here. It was still pretty freezing. The sun came out though, which was nice and it did just scrape 12c/50f.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments There is also supposed to be something for people standing on doorsteps with candles at 8pm but not going to do that. The main reason I remembered is that the radio announced it, admittedly I was sat in my house by myself, so silence was quite easy, just the sound of the cat snoring.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I've just put a candle in our window. It's a bit cold for a vigil and I'm wearing my PJs.

Weather has been reasonable. Today a little colder but frankly not bad.
I wore my jacket and needed it, as opposed to wearing it and needing it occasionally yesterday :-)

Like you, Lent hasn't really figured, which is sad because it is a contemplative time and we need one of those, especially at the moment

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning, day off so of course I had a bad night sleep! Have watched a bit of TV, got a couple of chores to do, want to go for a walk (we are doing a walking challenge at work for charity), and then neighbour wants to go to cheap shop and I have to go to pets at home to collect orders - hopefully all 3 are ready, but none are for me!!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Had quite a busy morning catching up after my day off yesterday, then had my one-to-one this pm, managed to eke it out to 45 mins!! Hopefully couple of improvements will come from it. Lucy had a vet visit straight from work, at one point I thought I was going to have to cancel as she was under the bed, but luckily she came out and didn't hear me shut the door, so was the easiest catch, which was good as I only had 10 mins to grab her and drive (it used to be a 7 min drive but sometime during Covid they reduced the speed limit!). I had to wait outside for 5 mins as there were too many people in, then someone left with a swan in a carrier, not seen one of those at the vets before. I did get told off by the vet as Lucy has put on too much weight, ironically I'd been giving her more treats as she didn't seem to be eating much - it saved her having bloods, the vet didn't see the point in doing them as she has gained so much weight in 3 months.

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments Morning!

Day off at last after an exhausting few days at work. Whole day devoted to writing beckons - currently editing the third story of my Truth About Trees Book, that being The Tale and Last Testament of Maggie Cross. Who knows, somebody may even read it one day!

Hope everyone is fine as can be. Languid Tollesbury blue sky just now out my window. Let the fun begin!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Sounds like you had a successful day Desley, Stuart, I'm jealous it's the first day of the holidays and we are trying to regulate McMini's screen time so I can't see myself getting much writing done until he goes back.

Went for a walk with a friend yesterday. It was grand. Hoping we can do another one soon!

Cheers

MTM

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning!!

Essay done. Gareth is going to read over it for me and then hopefully I can get it submitted. Got a ton of clinical skills revision to do in the meantime.

On the bright side, I got £500 for covid disruption to my studies so I'm going to get a new laptop! No idea what I'm looking for though other than around £300 so I have enough left over to buy a new kindle too :o)

Lynne, the standard kindle has the back light now as well so I don't really get what the difference is between them anymore

message 15272: by Stuart (new)

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments My writing days tend to be by necessity somewhat unhealthy MT so I don't be too envious! I love the word 'grand' by the way - thanks for bringing it into the day!

message 15273: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments You need a northern irish pal in your life Stuart. "Uck, sure it's grand" is standard repsonse to any question about how something is.

message 15274: by Stuart (new)

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments Hah! I actually have one! He has come to be my brother in charms! Although I have to say, the only time I've heard him use the word 'grand' is when telling me how much yet another of his useless footie bets will absolutely, definitely pay until of course it doesn't.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Jud, i noticed the standard kindle has a back light, the only other difference between my old one and paperwhite is the buttons

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning all, nice to see a bit more chat going on in here :)

Had a torrential downpour already this morning but blue skies now. Spring innit.
Apparently I'm living in the best place to live in Scotland, according to the Sunday Times. Wish they'd stop telling everyone!
I had to replace my original kindle (ten years old) recently as it had developed some lines across the screen which were interfering with my reading pleasure. Just went for the cheapest model (much less than I paid for the first!) and I think it's grand. ;)

message 15279: by Stuart (new)

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments I went for the cheapest model too Rosemary. Bloody ended up marrying her!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Don't know about over there Jud, but Curry's have a sale on, I got a really good spec at Christmas with a decent saving.

We keep alternating between rain and blue skies here. Cleaner has just been and now I've eaten crackers causing crumbs!! Food shopping after work, neighbour wants Chinese, but I'm in the mood for pizza.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments We've had alternating blue skies and hailstones today Desley. Big sore ones!

Finally got my appointment for my covid jag. Two weeks away.

message 15288: by Stuart (new)

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments Good news about your jab, Rosemary. My wife has gone out today to get her second. Getting my second April 11th. Just need them to come up with a vaccine for impulsive acts of self-destruction and I'll be sorted!

We got hailstones as well.
Hope it goes well with the jab

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Got a phone call off neighbour yesterday, her car had made a funny noise while she was out and she was close to her garage so she popped in to see what it might be - unfortunately they were concerned that it could damage the engine, so wouldn't let her drive the car away from the garage!! She has her second Covid jab today, so I have to take her, hoping friend gets up early enough that we can still get a decent walk in. Might have to take her to Asda on the way home, as they said it is likely to be Wed when they can look at the car

Glad you have a date for your jab R.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Aye I'm glad I've got a date too - I phoned up the helpline number eventually, because everyone I know my age around here (and some younger too) has already either had their vaccination or at least received their blue envelope with an appointment for next week. I think in England you get to book your own appointment which seems a much better system to me.

It's a lovely day out there but there was a touch of ground frost first thing and there is STILL a cold wind. I'm staying in and fighting this landscape to the death! Fortified with coffee and biscuits :D

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’ve been busy all week, gardening - well picking up after the man with the power tools as usual. New windows in yesterday, I can see outside again. It really was bad. Like living in a dirty aquarium. It made it feel like it was raining everyday as it was running down inside the double glazing. We do get the odd dry spell in Wales.
We can’t book vaccinations either in Wales. It’s really not a ‘National ‘ health service it’s devolved.

message 15293: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I have my 2nd jab tomorrow. It's a book your own system over here too.

I'll have a look at Currys, thanks Desley. Although, I think I'll wait a bit before I buy one maybe see if I can get in to a shop to speak to someone. On the plus side, kindles are reduced at the minute! Glad I didn't buy straight away, I've saved myself £15

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments That's a good deal Jud, forgot about the spring sale

In England I got a letter asking me to book

I turned the letter over and the back was in a number of languages so I just phoned my doctor's surgery. The lady just took my details and asked if I could make in the next Saturday
Which was fine

Then I picked up the letter again and realised it was two pages that had stuck together because they then fell apart and I was apparently supposed to phone a national helpline and they could offer me a number of places and dates
But as I'd already got the best one possible for convenience I didn't bother :-)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning all and welcome to Summertime! Of course it's raining :D

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning all, raining today, so might not miss that hour I lost - I was wondering why Lucy wasn't fussing for food, but she clearly hasn't twigged about the clock change. Not much housework to do, so not quite sure what to do with my day.

My calls came from the doctors, they said they had clinics, but I really went to the local centre that covers GP from my village and the next village (at least, maybe more)

message 15298: by Kath (last edited Apr 02, 2021 04:26AM) (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning, each. A bit grey here, but enough about me.
I gave up on actual kindles and have a kindle app on my tablet, which I greatly prefer. I can then see emails coming in, and notifications for the Facebook group for which I'm one of the admins.

Had my first jab in late January and no date for the second. We were offered spare ones - Pfizer, which would have gone out of date. So no second jab date but I'm assuming we'll get a phone call from our GP because that's how the first came about. I think the twelve weeks are up in mid-April.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments I don't find it as easy to read on my tablet as I do my kindle Kath, and I get frustrated with the notifications - my big tablet has some random GR ones that I don't know how to stop (I deliberately don't have my e-mail account on there). I didn't get a date either, just told if I'd not heard in 10 weeks to contact my GP

message 15300: by Jay-me (Janet) (new)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Hello I'm still here. Still furlough part time and working from home.
Mum still shielding, although she is currently in hospital for a few days. Hope everyone else is well.

I had my jab via the online booking a couple of weeks ago.
I contacted my GP in January to update my contact details and asked if I qualified for an earlier date as I was a full time carer for a vulnerable person. The receptionist asked if I was a paid carer and said that as I wasn't then I didn't qualify for an earlier slot.
When I received the booking letter it was easier to book direct than through GP so I have a date for my second.

My gym and a couple of craft clubs have been putting live sessions on Facebook. Unfortunately neither my phone or tablet will play them live. And neither will they open the menu so that I can get recent posts instead of Top Stories. If it wasn't the only way to keep contact with my cousin who is currently travelling around Australia then I would give up Facebook.
