Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Down south:

A few flakes of snow looked pretty floating past the early morning window and then it turned to sleet battering the window. Sunny now though windy and cold.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I served that bolognese at lunch time. He did guess something was different. Told me it was sweeter and wrong colour so I had to confess to using tomato soup instead of tinned tomatoes or passata. Can’t slip anything past old Epicure Poirot. 😁

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Now you just need to add some chilli and some beans and call it chile con carne Lynne. Enough heat and he'll never know :D

Now that's a good idea. Baked beans and a dash of balsamic vinegar to sharpen it :-)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Wrong colour? It's just a different colour. A bit of culinary pzazz worthy of its own TV show.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Gosh it's so cold out there. I hear all the little birds singing their beaks off because it's spring but they're not fooling me. Also it turns out it's three degrees warmer up the hill at the supermarket than it is here at home, according to the car. Which is now showing the right time too - clever thing (yes I left it for six months because it's too complicated to change the clock)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments He HATES beans!! I think he was frightened by one as a child😁 it is genetic though - daughter can’t eat one even in a soup without gagging.
It’s doggy boy’s birthday today. The Billy beastie is 4 so I’m going to make him a cake. He won’t complain about anything except that he won’t get all of it. It will be a jam and buttercream sandwich cake and the sugar rush afterwards will be great fun. 😀

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Afternoon all, it was 0 when I left to go to work, and on the way home just now it started trying to snow!! Really should learn not to go to Lidl at lunchtime though. Had some sad news yesterday, my brother had been away for the weekend and came home to find their cat had passed, he only sent me pics on Fri and he looked quite well for his age (think he was 15).

Talking about cars R, when I changed the clock in mine, it told me it was 6th May 2026!! Time's right though

It's not a DeLorean, is it?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments No, just a Micra - I had an issue with changing the time the other day

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Evening, had my eyes photographed today, was a weird experience - first they had to put extra dilating drops in because of how good my eyesight is, and it's really hard to stare at a bright light for a whole minute, we had to do both eyes twice! Was bitterly cold this morning, phone said -4, felt like -7. If it affects anyone, I saw this morning that the working from home tax credit has been extended to include the 21/22 tax year.

message 15362: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments You're right it was cold last night/this morning. I can believe the -4 as well judging by ice on the buckets

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Evening, warmer today, but it was raining earlier and now the wind is getting up again. Had a bad night sleep, woke up at 3ish with a headache and was still awake at 5, so changed my 6.30 alarm to a 7am alarm, and had a really hectic day at work, and tomorrow won't be better, got a meeting 12-1 and then 1-2 (although that normally only lasts 30 mins), glad I'm working from home, eating will be easier.

Jim | 21809 comments We were damp this morning but it got better and the day's been OK

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Busy day yesterday - had lunch with five of the younger ladies on the patio - no masks! We're all vaccinated, it was outside (really nice day), and it was nice to see the faces of new people.

A dip in the pool - paid for today by pain. Sigh. But I need to, or I turn to rock. I don't even swim - just stretch gently. Maybe my body doesn't like riding Maggie to and from the pool - that hurts, too. A nice TENS unit the size of a pack of cards is currently zapping my hip - and that does help. Who knew electrocuting yourself could be beneficial?

message 15366: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments A friend of mine had a TENS unit quite a lot of years ago, He swore by it

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Sorry you are paying for doing things Alicia, I might try a TENS machine again, it did used to help

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments He’s chuffing well this morning. Just had a reminder to renew our car tax for £270. Gone on line to renew and it’s £280. Paper renewal totally different amount. I told him after he should have written a cheque and posted it with the paper reminder.
That wasn’t helpful was it? 🙄.

I'm glad I have it (just turned it off) - it minimizes taking pain meds, and so protects my liver and kidneys for the long term.

Hope you get the same positive effect.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments What a sad day yesterday, even though I'm not a big fan of the monarchy. I then heard that the rescue Lucy is from had to have their mascot put to sleep yesterday, ironically his nickname was King Kenny and he also raised a lot of money for the charity. He was dumped round the corner from the rescue, so malnourished he could barely stand and they couldn't identify what kind of dog he was for weeks. His medical and behavioural issues from it meant he couldn't be rehomed, but they gave him the best life they could.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning all! I've just been watching the biggest lifting vessel in the world sail past my window. The Pioneering Spirit is heading up the Forth to take the top of one of the decommissioned oil rigs that's parked up that way. Absolute monster of a ship - it's 477m long.

Another cracking day with virtually no wind. Walks will be taken.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Morning all, what a random weather day yesterday, we had snow and hail, it was snowing when I went to bed but it wasn't sticking, woke up to find it had!! Had a nice walk with friend, and then we had to do an errand as neighbour had found a dog kennel for me on facebook marketplace, I'd been contemplating getting one for Lucy, in the hope it helps her stay outside more.

Sorry to hear your mum is getting worse MT

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I think it’s hailing here and OH is outside painting the garage wall.
He won’t be happy when he comes in. I’m freezing after peeling the veg, my kitchen faces north.
I like seeing the industrial boats on the water here, when the refineries do a shutdown there’s some enormous barges and cranes go up the haven. They are quite a sight.
I’ve just googled that ship. It’s very impressive.
It’s snowing hard here. I was right he’s not happy.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning

Currently listening to a lecture about how Northern Irelands history (Troubles)still affects nursing today.

I was chatting to my best pal last night, we met through the Duke of Edinburgh scheme. It never occurred to me until she mentioned it that if it wasn't for Prince Philip I would never have met her and I'm sure there are thousands of other relationships that have the same man to thank. I can't imagine not having her in my life. That alone is a pretty impressive legacy.

Thought today was going to be sunny but it is overcast again

Apparently it's in 144 countries or thereabouts. Some they just use the standard Duke of Ed stuff but call it 'the President's award' or similar

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments It was properly wellying it down with snow this morning, which was great timing for the lifting of Covid restrictions. The cafes near me had tables and chairs out, but unsurprisingly no-one was sitting at them!

Sun is out now, but it's still chilly.

I can finally go to the gym and I cannot chuffing wait - I had my bag all packed and ready on Saturday.

message 15381: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments We had snow here this morning too, although by the time I woke up it was bright sun. It has melted now but despite the sun it's very cold and every time it goes in the temperature drops about five degrees!

message 15382: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Cold but sunny. People sitting outside in bars and cafes.

I wonder if a lot more young people will take up the DofE award now? Somebody in NZ asked me about it and I've sent the website link.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Evening, was not impressed at scraping the car in -2 temps at 7.30, it was 7 when I came home at lunch, but the sun through the glass felt too warm for the big coat I had needed a few hours earlier!! I had a phone call from the hairdresser this morning, asking if I was free on 17th, I assumed she meant May, but she meant this Sat! Luckily it fits with the timing of my walk with my friend. Lidl was fairly quiet, which was nice.

That's a nice thought Jud, I remember the Duke of Edinburgh award being pushed while I was at high school. Can't imagine sitting outside today was a pleasant experience!!

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Thinking my hairdresser might be overwhelmed with customers, I went to make an appointment for some time in the future. Closed. Empty. A nearby shop (can shop's talk?) said the owner had just disappeared not telling her clients or anything. Perhaps a recommendation? Ah, yes, but they're much more expensive. I went. They're not sure they can take any more...

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Well, I had a call from the hospital this morning, with the results of my eye scan last week, which caused a minor panic as I was told the results would be by letter, but she said everything was fine and couldn't work out why I had been put on her list to ring. Then when I finished work I found my iritis check up letter, I thought it was tomorrow, but it was this morning. In my defence, she rang 30 mins earlier than the app time, and started with 'I'm ringing with the results of your eye scan', so I didn't twig she might have been ringing for the wrong thing. Will have to ring and see if they can give me a new app now. Popped round the village at lunch, was lovely walking in shops - I did come home with a votive, a wax melt and 5 books, none of which I need, but nice to give some local businesses money and chatting with people. I was gutted when I heard the charity shop saying they were taking books to the tip, so if anyone wanted any, feel free to take - but they were very old fashioned cook books.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Evening, tried getting my app fixed, ironically I have a 'virtual' appointment for next Mon which is apparently set for the doc to review my scan and gives him a slot to ring if necessary - told her I'd already got those results, she put me through to the ward to see if they can give me Monday's app, but the ward were either ringing out or engaged. Nice weather at least.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments We've had days of fantastic sunny weather although there is still a frost first thing. I've been busy sanding and painting my beach hut ready for opening on the 26th. Can't wait :D

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments Hi all. Had a bit of a break as finally confronted my alcohol problems. Have been off it completely for 18 days now and fully intend to continue. Hope everyone is ok. Here's to finer times!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Evening all, lovely day today, got some washing dried, hoping tomorrow will be a good drying day too. Got my eye app rearranged after speaking to 3 people and over an hour of trying numbers. Lucy's medication is ready, so I'll have to collect that tomorrow.

Glad you have managed to confront your alcohol problems Stuart, good luck for staying off it. Glad you will be able to open your beach hut again soon R

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Evening, hectic day, remembered at 11.30 I was supposed to have gone to the hairdresser yesterday to have a skin test, apparently people have been having reactions because of Covid, so popped in my lunch break today. After work I had to go and get Lucy's meds, and as I had to go over the border to Yorkshire, went to the farm shop, their B & M, Morrisons and Aldi, plus I had to drop cat food off for my neighbours friend. On the way to the vet, my car came up with a maintenance message, have had it for nearly 5 years and never seen that before, didn't think my 12 plate Micra would be posh enough for that, so luckily it was before the garage closed so it's booked in for Wed.

I had a cousin who died an alcoholic so I have every sympathy for anybody who has problems with alcohol, and I'm really glad you've been able to confront them.
Hope it goes really well

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Nice sunny day, hopefully going for a walk as long as friend wakes up early enough and is up for it, then having my hair done, can't wait - it was so nice seeing them just for my skin test yesterday.

Top going Stuart. It's a tough ride but worth doing. I have lost two friends to drink and like Jim, I have every sympathy. By the simple fact you are confronting it now, you are doing better than both my friends. Hang in there matey.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments You can do it, Stuart.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments I did get out for a walk on Sat, going near my friends was nice, as we went to Costa - I have enjoyed supporting the local independent businesses, but it was really nice to have sandwich, drink and cake, plus the weather was really warm. Was also really nice to have a haircut, I'm not sure what I appreciated most, the haircut or seeing my hairdressers - I've been using the same place for at least 15 years and it's a family run business, so three of the four there on Sat have been there all the time I've been going, so was nice to see them, hairdresser was very poorly with Covid in Jan. Odd day today, was 3 when I got in the car at 7.30, 16 when I left work at lunch, had to go to the retail park to pick up the cat food orders. Think the reason I've got fed up of having Chinese takeaway every week is that more places are open, and I'd rather have cake on a Sat than Chinese on a Wed.
