Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments It’s fascinating me. But I don’t think I’ll be asking Santa for one yet. I feel a proper Cassandra moment coming but didn’t the Segway inventor go over a cliff on his.
I live near cliffs 😁
What’s your air trike like Alicia, I imagined something with big wheels at the back - I didn’t realise this technology was so developed - I feel like the person who first saw a horseless carriage must have felt but in my defence I do live in rural Wales 😀

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Another rubbish night sleep. Not many of us in the office today, but our maintenance guy has been round installing hand sanitiser stations, not sure why as our office passed an external Covid19 audit.

I think a lot of places are installing them Desley. It would be useful if you have anyone visiting the office or going out and coming back in after lunches etc.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I would kill for a monowheel but they are actually still illegal in the UK. In the grey area between bicycles and cars so illegal because otherwise they'd have to be taxed and MOTd under the current rules and that makes things complicated. Recently they have now made it so that you can use electric scooters powered by one particularly company that hires them out, like boris bikes. I can't wait until we finally get to the point where they're legal to use there, I'll be down the shops to get one like a rat up a pipe.

Morning all. Bit blustery here, just about to go out for a walk.

Cheers

MTM

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Just seems odd timing, we already have numerous bottles of hand sanitiser around the building, although to be fair, some have flip caps on which aren't being shut and I couldn't get any out of the one on the photocopier last week. Ironically we have one next to the staff entrance but not the visitor entrance!

Now that's what I call a good day!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Slept through till 5.30 this morning, don’t think I’ve needed the alarm once since going back to work! Neighbour found a local person selling bespoke face masks, so we have some cat print ones on order – think they were a bit pricey, but saves me trying to find somewhere that can get them here before next week! She did tickle me when she said she’d ordered more so she could wear a fresh one in each shop, seeing as she doesn’t carry hand sanitiser or wash her hands when she gets home, which I think is more important. I won’t be going shopping that much when face masks become mandatory, I was going to go to the retail park when I get paid, but am going to go this Fri after work instead and stock up on things I can’t get locally. Wet here, had to put the heating on earlier as it felt quite cold. Am finally feeling like I’m getting on top of my workload, another thing ticked off my To do list this morning.

Turns out our maintenance bloke put more stations in the wings than people expected, so he ran out and will have to come back when more arrive! Glad you had a good catch up Kath.

Jim | 21809 comments had to go to town to get some bits and bobs
Had to wash my hands when I got home, there was so much hand sanitiser on my hands my eyes were watering from the vapour!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I read on a dog forum about a pet licking or being stroked after the owner used a lot of hand sanitiser and having a reaction to it. I have some cream prescribed for arthritis with capsaicin which is totally impractical unless I put gloves on. If you rub your eyes with that on you really are in bother. I couldn’t use it as Harry was a baby at the time and I daren’t risk it when I looked after him.
In our village in France there’s a clinic for rehabilitation of addicts, it used to be nearly all alcoholics and it was compulsory attendance for anyone losing their driving license through drunk driving. The little shop selling gifts was banned from selling eau de cologne as there was a risk a desperate patient might drink it. I saw a hand sanitiser point had been vandalised in the U.K. and someone had tried to drink the gel.
The addicts are only allowed out in threes, and the cafes and shops won’t serve them any alcohol.

message 14011: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments There are some hand sanitizers made with the wrong kind of alcohol - people are drinking the stuff and getting poisoned.

Desperation is hard, but I can only imagine the pain to their digestive systems.

Getting unaddicted must be incredibly hard.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Made the mistake of letting Lucy sit on me while I was working yesterday, then could barely sit down. Went for a walk round the park after work to try and stretch my back out, our library is open again, although very limited hours and for collection only. There is a Cadent van doing some works on the next street, so the girls are rather unhappy at the moment, it did tickle me to see a Cadent worker stand at the side of his van having a cigarette, while his colleague was drilling a hole. Need to go to the chemist after work to pick up my prescription and either Co-op or Lidl. Local coffee shop have made party ring blondies today, really tempted to pop round for one. Forgot to mention, I got up yesterday and there was water all over the worktop, then when I finished work, it had happened again, when I lifted it up, water was dripping out of the holes on the bottom, so I emptied it and got the ‘green’ one out. Must write to Lidl and complain.

Yes, addiction must be so hard to recover from.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Had a funny incident after posting yesterday, was on the phone to my telephone befriending person, realised she wasn’t speaking, looked at my phone to discover it had disconnected the call and rang my boss! Wouldn’t mind but he wasn’t even the last person I spoke to! Went to the chemist yesterday, she asked for my mobile number, they are now going to text when your prescription is ready, which I find handy. Then she asked if she could put me on the list for the flu jab, I said I go to the docs for that, but apparently they have been asked to do a register in case the doctors struggle to fit them in, I was quite surprised to be asked about it in July, it’s normally at least September when they start mithering me, and I always have it at the beginning of November. Was chatting to our cleaner before, she is making masks and said if she comes across any cat material, she will make me a mask, which I thought was sweet of her. Glad I came in the office, there has been a nice Friday joviality, despite there only being 6 in my wing. Going to the retail park after work, hopefully it won’t be too tiring, and then dropping off my friend’s amazon delivery.

Very quiet on here again. Sorry that you have got more stress with having a staff member test positive Alicia, and a couple self isolating, must be scary.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments How do. Much of the morning has been taken up with the making of 9 jars of blackcurrant jam. All cooling now and I can hear the lids clicking as the middle of the lid goes in.

Got enough rasps to do the same amount of raspberry jam or jelly but the surplus are in the freezer and I'm hanging fire till apple season because apple and raspberry crumble has the best qualities of both!

message 14015: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Usually when we have enough fruit to make jam it’s too warm for comfort while making it. It’s not particularly hot for July here is it.
I’m sewing new trousers for myself. I’ve worn two pairs of cotton trousers out, in fairness they were both years old. No prizes for guessing whereabouts they’ve worn. I also need new foam in my chair cushion from all the sitting down over the last few weeks.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments You all sound so normal, Desley, Kath, Lynne - going about doing your normal chores. It is lovely.

I remember the sound of the snapping as the jam caps sealed - Mother made jam way back when.

Nothing seems all that different here, what with a couple of close cases, but also there is still no vaccine, no cure, no treatment that isn't draconian, so there is a seesaw effect on the emotions.

I'm going out for a trike ride - gotta keep the joints mobile!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I was going to make jam but we ate all the strawberries :D

I drove down to the Borders yesterday to visit my mum who I hadn't seen since about 1892. It was really nice to see her. I think she has dealt with lockdown better than me tbh...

Driving into Embra tomorrow to visit husband's parents. They are both 92 and living at home but at least they've had each other to argue with!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Well, we got an e-mail from the local council yesterday lunch warning us that our R rate is getting quite high, so ended up spending more than I was going to at the retail park, although did deliberately not get a couple of things so I can get them from my local cheap shop and support a local business, so need to go there shortly. Social distancing wasn't happening much at the retail park. Raining today so will crack on with the housework and hoping to finish my book this weekend.

Ooh, home made jam Kath, how lovely. Glad you have been able to see your mum R.

message 14020: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I think you've got to be wary about rumours of local R numbers

I have heard all sorts of things for Cumbria and yesterday there was an on line session with Cumbria's Director of Public Health

He was very good, his regular reports are on the County Council Website so everybody can get the data
In Cumbria at the moment the only part with any covid at all is Carlisle and all cases have been traced to contacts with hospital and hospital staff.

Yet an hour later I saw an on-line local newspaper saying Barrow had a high number of cases and could be locked down!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Back from Edinburgh. The roads were crazy busy, worse than normal I'd have said. They can't all have been out for their first drive into the city in four months!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Another early get up, but the sun is shining, so got one load pegged out already and a second in the machine. Didn't do all that much housework yesterday, struggled to get enough motivation so a bit more to do today, and then should finish my book, only got an hour left in it.

Bet that wasn't pleasant R!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Lovely day here now, but when I got up (early) all the windows were covered in condensation on the outside. I thought it was thick fog at first but then realised what it was. It must have been a really cold snap but I’ve never seen that before ever. The suns out now and sky is cloudless and the local car parks in south Pembs are announced full and they aren’t asking people to stay away. That’s another unusual event.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Not much to say today, up at 5.30 as my back was really sore. Enjoying being in the office with colleagues, finding out a bit more about what happened while I was on furlough, if my boss hadn’t ‘gone off sick’, I would have been furloughed till the beginning of July and brought back part time, which is crazy as I still haven’t caught up on everything that wasn’t touched, although only a couple of minor bits left, but it’s taken a month, would have been harder part time.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I took the grandson out for an ice cream treat. He wouldn’t even try a taste of it till last week now he’s acting as if he’s invented it, after lunch he went through my pantry like a locust on speed looking for ‘snacks’. He’d had a good cooked lunch and an orange so I know he wasn’t hungry but when he went home but he asked for spaghetti Bolognese for his tea. His mum was already cooking pizzas and told him he could have it tomorrow but not tonight as the meal was nearly ready. He was annoyed at that. He whined a bit then asked ‘Will we have pudding?  She agreed. He pushed a bit more. “Anything I like.”
She agreed. - anything for a bit of peace while she finished cooking.
Anything - promise. YES she said, anything I promise
OK. I’ll have spaghetti bolognese for my pudding.
You’ve got to laugh when a 5 year old plays you like a fish.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Forgot to say, when talking to my colleague who has just been to Spain, she said the face masks are being taken more seriously out there, between the police walking round with guns and the fact they will give you an on the spot fine if they see you without one. Have had a text from my doc today about the flu jab, saying they will be arriving in Sept and I’ll get an update after they have arrived. Never had one of those before. Thought I slept OK, but got one of those twitchy eyes that you normally get when you are tired. Was going to walk round the block on my lunch break, but it keeps trying to rain, so not sure I want to do that.

Ooh, she’s going to have to watch him Lynne, thinking that up at 5!!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments People are wearing masks inside shops etc here Desley, everyone - even quite small children. Outdoors too you see quite a few folk with them on, which is a bit OTT when you're out for a walk on an almost empty beach!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Hello,my lovelies. Been a while, eh?

So, after a mammoth job of sorting travel, we made it to Wales. Left Mandalay on Friday, arrived here on Sunday.

Obviously my body is still on Myanmar time. Hoping that'll sort soon.

We're doing 14 days quarantine in our flat, as required. We would do even if not required. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if we were to make anyone ill.

I am scratching at the Windows, mind. Weather here has been glorious. Would be lovely to get outside and not be a sweaty puddle in 2 minutes. Soon.

I need to find out the rules/recommendations about visiting people. Dave would like to see his father, of course. I had heard something about having to stay within 5 miles of home in Wales, though? Also, his father would be classed as vulnerable.
Anyone have any idea where I can find the information that'd help with this?

I've reset my old iPad to factory settings which seems to have made it work better and our lovely neighbours are letting us steal their wifi, so I should be able to get on the group more regularly now, touch wood.
Accessing the group on my phone just doesn't work. Rubbish app and the webpage is too small to work with. Good reads really needs to sort their app.

So much has gone on in the past year, I really couldn't share it all. Suffice it to say, I'm relieved we've now cut all ties with that shit hole of a school and grotesque caricature of a head. I will miss the good friends we made and the kids, of course.

We're meant to start our new jobs in Madrid at the end of August, so that will take some sorting. Not even gonna think about the logistics of the move until after our quarantine. We do have flights booked but who knows what may happen before then. Thankfully, it's a proper school and they're keeping us well informed.

It's nice to be home.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Hi Patti and welcome back! I expect you'll get answers from the gov.wales website. More sense there than from Westminster anyway (though that's not hard)

Raining here today. Fits the mood - got to go to Aberdeen to see husband's eye specialist.

message 14035: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good morning all. Welcome back Patti. I think we could all sense your unhappiness with your last posting but knew you couldn’t say much. Good luck with your next one. Look up gov.wales there’s a page says How to self isolate. It says you can leave in certain circumstances to get basic food & medicines if you can’t get a delivery or someone to bring them to you. It’s all on there but like a lot of gov., sites you have to trawl through to find everything.
Looks like you are stuck for 14 days though, sorry.
Can you get anything delivered. A lot of small local shops are getting organised for home delivery. Must be very frustrating for You both knowing you’ve got to fly out to Spain and there’s important things to do. Hope Dave gets to see his Dad.

message 14036: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Thanks, I'll look at that site. Yeah, his father is in England. His brother should know if it's safe to visit, I'd hope.

I don't mind isolating. We've been doing it since March.

I cleaned out the pots n pans cupboard this morning. Been threatening to every time we've been home for about ten years.

Might tackle the wardrobes after lunch.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Lovely to see you back Patti, sorry that Myanmar wasn’t a good choice, hopefully Madrid will be so much better for you. Hope you don’t go too stir crazy in quarantine. Good excuse to declutter - except you may struggle with getting rid of things you no longer need!! I don’t like the GR app, and I can type in the boxes on my phone, but the post box disappears! Fingers crossed for hubby's app R.

Roger used to fly from Nice see his Mum in Nottingham almost quicker than going from West Wales. If you can book in advance it’s cheaper than U.K. rail fares too.

Glad you've made it back. If it helps, I've been visiting Mum since the 6th? week when they announced you could see vulnerable family members. I'm being a bit careful otherwise. I'm not sure what the rules would be about you leaving Wales but in England, yes, I think Dave is OK to visit his dad.

Sorry you've clearly had a shit time in Myanmar. It should have been so brilliant but it was clearly a shedload of crap from the sound of it; school, internet access, efficiency handling covid 19 etc. With any luck you'll get to Madrid before the second wave. Sorry the weather is so good while you're both stuck indoors but welcome home anyway.

Cheers

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Another hectic morning, luckily I was working from home, neighbour knocked on at 8.40 asking if I could help – said it depended on what as I was starting work at 9. She had seen one of the cats gazing at the log burner, went to investigate to find that there was a live starling in the log burner, so needed help getting the poor thing out. Sent her for a cat carrier, figuring that would be the easiest way to not just get it out of the fire, but also out of the house without any of the three cats getting it. Luckily it was quite a sensible bird and went in with no issues, we took it a couple of streets over just in case it was a bit wobbly but it flew straight out. Had a catch up meeting this morning, have been officially told that the two colleagues who were still on furlough have been made redundant, which has made me a bit sad.

Spooks is on my list too.

certainly with the English rules what you see is the sort of regulation that normally appears for consultation. So it's what the professionals produce if left to themselves.
The consultation process is a way whereby the real world points out the nonsense and helps eliminate the most ridiculous elements.
These regulations are being pushed out with little consultation. Also when it's just the civil service they're open to having these things pointed out to them
When it's the 'medical civil service' be it human or veterinary, they seem to march to the beat of a different drum and will refuse to accept suggested changes

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, had a bad night sleep, and typically I can't have a lie in today, as I'm going to the hairdresser for the first time since January! At least I can just sit reading while I am there. Offered to go to my neighbours chemist last night as I wanted some fresh air and thought it would be a good test for my mask - plus it's near Lidl so got a few bits while it was dry (I was initially going to do it today after my hair, but it's raining). I don't really like my cloth one, can't seem to get it in the right place, so hoping the disposable one I'm wearing today will be better. At least everyone in Lidl and the chemist were wearing them.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Well, had to take my mask off in the hairdressers, as it affected my asthma, which I wasn't expecting after being fine on Fri - according to my phone though, humidity was 93%, so maybe that combined with the humidity in the hairdressers was just too much. Am going to go on Asthma UK when in work and print off a card just in case it happens again. One advantage of waiting so long for my hair was that it had faded enough that they could put a lighter colour on, although she has gone too short! Got home to my rheumatology letter, which had more information on than I'd got in the phone call! I'd been told in May that my MRI showed just normal age degeneration, this letter says it shows chronic bilateral sacroiliitis, which I'm guessing isn't normal for people in their late 30's. The new medication is a different anti-inflammatory, so will ring the docs tomorrow to see if they've had chance to prescribe it yet. Struggled with motivation yesterday, but had lots of lovely conversations, which is more important than housework. That said, there is some I have to do today.

I think the girls working in there are wearing those face shields. I’m having trouble finishing jobs I start. I’ve got sewing on the dining table and can’t be bothered to get it done and cleared away. We use the little table in the sitttingroom so I’m not being hassled to tidy up (yet).

Apparently she had cut the hair of somebody in a mask, they had to unhook it off the ears and just hold it to their face. But it was their choice
