Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, Lucy woke me up a 6.15am. Doing a socially distanced reservoir walk with a friend again, same place as the other week, only I thought there was only 3 reservoirs up there, but discovered yesterday there are 6, so we are going to walk to at least one of the others (don't think the other 3 are close enough to do in one, but that gives us at least 2 walks), and taking advantage of a dry day to get a couple of washloads done. Had to change the landing light bulb the other day (so wish I could have just got a neighbour to do it, it's quite awkward), only had an 'old' light bulb in, can't believe the difference in brightness!

Sorry to hear you have sprained your wrist Pat, hope it isn't too painful. Glad you got the freezer sorted without too much wasted food Lynne.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I don’t think we’ve wasted any food. A sliced loaf for toast maybe but the birds will eat that.
Nice and sunny but a bit too bright too early. Got a feeling it won’t last. Have a good day all!

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Sunny and warm here in the south. Just seen a thousands strong Black Lives Matter march go by. All seemed to be enjoying themselves but maybe they forgot about the social distancing!

Peace and quiet restored now.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Blimey that week went fast. Loads of prep for McMini’s birthday. I was probably dumb to try and publish a new book next week. The wheels fell off everything. It would have been OK if the uploads etc had gone according to plan but they didn’t. Never mind.

Right need to rush up to the market now in order to be back to zoom my brother and get the cousins talking to each other at 2.00

Cheers

It's not so bad, wish I knew what I did to cause it though.
How are you? busy as usual, I reckon.

I'm finding the same thing: now that we have time to talk on zoom, it's hard to find enough things to talk about with the kids, or with my sisters in Mexico. Why do things have to flip so completely?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, my ankle didn't like the new reservoir yesterday, hopefully the other two up there will be better. Read nearly all a book, just a shame vegan neighbour kept talking to me, or I would have managed it. Think I might do another reservoir walk before it gets too warm, then read, although we are supposed to get rain at 4.

message 13861: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Blue sky, long skinny clouds, fabulous weather here in the south and there's a lot more people out and about this weekend.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, don't think I'll go to that reservoir on a Sun again, there were lots of groups of 4-6 people on paths that arent as wide as a pavement. Got my dentist triage app this morning, then think I'll go to a nature reserve I've not been to for years. Supposed to rain this afternoon.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments We've had really thick haar for the last three days. The other side of the street might as well not exist

My lady wife ventured into town to do banking stuff, her first trip since March.
Took forever because of people queuing etc.
I ventured into Aldi first thing when I collected today's paper, because I was running out of lemon and ginger tea and I rather like theirs.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments I'm happy to wait before venturing into the non-essential shops. I've never been a big shopper but perhaps if I persuade myself that it is helping our economy, I might buy something!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I went out yesterday went up to daughter’s to help her dress a bad cut and forgot to take the first aid box so had to turn round and drive back to get it. It’s as if my brain isn’t up to speed yet for going out,. I came home with a boy. I can’t call him small anymore. He’s like pac man. Munch munch munch. I fed him. Played games, ran the legs off him and took him home for bedtime. Hopefully worn out. I know I was, it’s the noise - we’ve been so quiet for weeks, neither of us likes background noise for the sake of it. If I’m not listening to the radio I switch off. I can really understand my daughter’s severe problems with her hearing, TV on but not being watched, his toy or iPad making some sort of noise either speech, music or just a loud noise. Dogs barking, and she’s got tinnitus. She’s really struggling.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, woke up with a stiff back sleeping in an odd position round Lucy - we have a king size bed, why does she like to sleep exactly where I sleep?? Dentist rang yesterday and gave me antibiotics in case the pain is a sign of infection (I personally think the nerve is exposed, but there you go!) and asked her about my jaw on the other side, she said it would be them rather than the doc, and suggested a warm compress and check YouTube for jaw exercises. Went to get prescription, she hadn't warned me of their new procedure, the door is locked, you have to ring for them to get you, you have to wear a mask and have your temperature taken. Luckily I was just handed my prescription without that faff. Nature reserve was only a couple of miles from my dentist so went there, but walked the wrong way (figured it was a circuit so didn't matter) and the path I chose was impassable after a certain point. Had a disappointing thunderstorm in the afternoon, lots of thunder but no lightning, which is my favourite part. Just had my team chat and my boss is off sick this week, so there are only 2 rather than 7! Feel sorry for one of them, she is having to do bits of 4 people's jobs, and apparently had to cancel leave as my boss didn't think he could cope on his own for 2 days, and now she's been left holding the fort! She's better at the personal stuff than him though, it was a really nice conversation. Supposed to have more thunder today. Had a random e-mail from Amazon telling me the package that arrived yesterday has been delayed! Hopefully they won't send another one.

I have to say shopping at the moment doesn't appeal, although I know we need to to help the economy. Glad you managed to give your daughter a break Lynne.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments No it's not Jim, thanks. Fog again this morning! Unusual for it to last quite so long, it lifted slightly yesterday evening but it's back just as thick this morning

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Sigh. I might have to water the garden - again. Still no rain, despite what the met office says. Glorious sunshine day after day and now I feel guilty for mentioning it as I've just heard that Manchester has had floods.

Anybody fancy running a pipe from the rainy places to the non-rainy places? A pipe running alongside a railway line into a reservoir or two - yet to be built - and it would benefit the north and the south.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, got a phone call yesterday afternoon asking if I was ready to go back to work next week, obviously said yes! We are still being asked to work from home as much as possible, I'll go in the office on Mon and then see. I have been warned not a lot of my job has been done but if it goes quiet, there is another department that needs help. Thunderstorm and heavy rain last night and more expected today, so will go for my walk early. Better decide what I really want to get done with my last few days off.

We may have had some flash flooding Anna, but the lake I walked to yesterday was still very low

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments We had some spectacularly loud thunder and lightning last night. It took the TV off for a short time. The rain missed us though, we would have liked some of the rain we could see falling a mile away our garden is very dry.
Good luck with going back to work Desley.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Good morning

Thank gawd online teaching is winding down. Just today and half day tomorrow to get through.
Going in to school on Monday for the first time since march and for the last time (hurrah!) to collect our final salary.
Can't wait to see the back of the horrid woman.

No info on getting out of the country yet. Airport closure has been extended to June 30th from June 15th.
There are some 'relief' flights going a couple times a week but very expensive. Hopefully airport will reopen on July 1st.
We may just stay here for July and fly direct to Spain.
Spain is removing the quarantine restrictions for new arrivals in a few days, so its looking the more attractive option at the moment.

message 13879: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Hi Patti
At the moment it's probably worth avoiding the UK, not because of the virus but because of the various restrictions

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments This must be a very difficult time for you, and people like you, Patti. I am constantly thinking 'I wish I could do something to help get things moving again and yet still protect those who need it. Sigh. Frustrating. But for you it is so much more than that. Hope things work out.

Rain! We've had rain.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, its raining, which is nice as I could do with a housework day. Plus I went to my new favourite Reservoir yesterday and the water level was lower than last week. Nearly didn't see it though, it was so foggy when i arrived I nearly turned round, but you could see in front of you, just not anything at a distance. Had thunder again last night.

Glad you are able to pick up your final salary Patti, good luck with leaving the country! Is Spain the next destination or a holiday?

message 13882: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning. Sounds like a good place to be out of, Patti.

Weekly shop this morning. Like Christmas! Not too many shoppers but far too few tills. They reckoned that many shoppers went into town early in the week so the place was quiet. They took a few people off the rota and we all sprang up again.

Glad we got some major work done in the front garden the last couple of days because it's heaving down with rain now. No more gardening will happen this week.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Hi Patti, hope you can escape soon.

Not really any fog today but still pretty hazy. It's not cold though. Time for sun now please. Although that does bring out all the idiots to the seaside

Yeah, been raining here too - although we have had blasts of sunshine.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, had an interesting morning! Woke up about 5ish, about 6.45 I could hear a cat crying and could see my neighbours cat out so thought he might have been locked out all night, went to let him in to find him playing with what I thought was a shrew, except they dont have tails and this creature did! It appears to have run off so hopefully ok. Then couldn't get back to sleep cos of the binmen. Just got up to find the crying was actually from a snow marble Bengal that did come the other week but not seen since. Managed to scan it, just waiting for the microchip company to open to see if it lost or just new to the area. Had a nice day yesterday, neighbour had to drop off a birthday card and as she is my bubble, I'm allowed in her car, felt like getting normality back. Colleague warned me yesterday that our MD has called an 8.30 meeting on Mon, what a great start! Nipping to Lidl at some point, hoping it will stay dry today.

Looking very comfy!

I’ve had a bit of a disaster. The screen has failed on my Kindle keyboard. It’s about one hundred years old so it’s hardly surprising but I’m rather sad. I use it at some point most days. I might get a Kobo Glow or a paperwhite. Something that has a little light so I can read in the dark. I don’t think they make kindle keyboards anymore or I’d just go for another of those. Don’t want a fire, I have an iPad which does that. Hmm... decisions decisions ....

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’ve just given my kindle keyboard to my OH to cannibalise. His switch failed and a spring had broken. He’s replaced the batteries in both for about £8 each. So if it’s that Mary it’s worth trying and do-able
Daughter desperately needs her ENT appointment but the GP’ is getting nowhere although they keep trying. It seems all consultants in Wales have disappeared from contact. Can’t go private either as they’ve been stopped. As for the brain damage there’s only wait and hope.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, we ended up with torrential rain yesterday, turned my street into a stream just as i was about to go to Lidl! Sunny now, so hoping to do a socially distanced walk and then read. I have finished my antibiotics but eating last night was painful so don't think they have helped. Did get a letter about a telephone rheumatology app next month though.

Yes, a friend commented on the cat theme Jim. Fingers crossed sorting out a new kindle MT, I love my paperwhite. Do hope you can get an app sorted for your daughter Lynne.

Ah, no I think this is pretty terminal. The screen is fuzzy and showing half a picture or just blank with the ghosts of things. I might see if I can get a screen now though. :-)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments You can have mine if it’s any use to you Mary. I’ll happily send it to you if could be any good to you. The battery is flat and the switch now doesn’t work but the screen bits were fine.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, last day off and I finally get a lie in! Sunday chores and sorting out work stuff today. Supposed to get rain this afternoon.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Well, I woke up before my alarm and was really nervous. I think part of it was coming back to a different office layout and being aware of not getting close to people in certain areas, but part was the 8.30 meeting. It was slightly vague unfortunately, my boss is off sick, but they wouldn’t say why or for how long, just that they needed to put temporary measures in place so we have someone to report to, which fortunately for me is my old boss. Nothing mentioned about the director that has been made redundant, just who is making decisions for us. Just need to figure out where to start, certain things haven’t been done in 9 weeks, some can be ignored and just start fresh from today, some I will need to backdate.

I’d have thought nothing of it a few weeks ago but I’m planning already for tomorrow. It’s so strange how this lockdown has changed routines and thought processes.
