I thought Gall Stones as well. I recommend kicking off and demanding a scan, because it isn't going to get better.
If you have what I had, which is a stone move and divert bile into your Pancreas you'll end up in hospital in pretty short order anyway.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, Lucy woke me up before 7, it was dry then. We went back to bed and watched a film, just got up again and now its raining. Got a letter from physio yesterday asking me to ring to make an app, but couldn't get through yesterday. Busy day, going to organise my big freezer, I'm convinced there is some Christmas food in there but not seen it for a while (definitely some in the other one!), preferably before I ho to Lidl! Fancy cooking a curry but no fresh veg in. Its my colleagues funeral today, so our virtual happy hour is in his memory.

Fingers crossed you get a scan soon MT, hope you are feeling better today.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Eh up! Alternate raining an sunny so great growing weather. Must remember to tie up my tall peas. They're clinging to the obelisks but one good gust of wind and they'll be down, and the peas are setting now. Next job!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, had good timing yesterday, I'd been back from Lidl about 20 mins when we had hailstone! Coming back, I noticed our Sayers was open, not that I go, but its a full row of shops open again - although that might not be a good thing as the R rate in the North west is high. Was raining earlier but sun is trying to come out now. The colleague who has been doing buts of my job is being furloughed on Tue, so not looking like I'll be needed yet, better make a new to do list.

Funny he should say that, the first time I went to see Mum (three weeks ago) I felt that the roads were full of people who clearly hadn’t driven for a while. The last two weeks it’s been better, busy but not so busy you can’t enjoy proper driving - everyone in the left hand lane and only pulling out to overtake, that kind of thing. Last week I did the trip to Mum’s in 2 hours dead. It was nothing to do with my speed, just that I didn’t have to keep waiting while someone overtook a whole line of lorries at 65mph without pulling into the 400 yards of empty road in between each one to let the rest of us by. The other thing I noticed is that, the people who are driving fast are now doing well over 100mph.

I know this because, the sight of a lady in a sports car tends to offend. So, sometimes I get behind someone doing 60 or 65 who floors the accelerator if I pull out to overtake them and then slows down when I pull in behind them again. On these occasions I usually fall a few hundred yards back, get a couple of cars in between me and the idiot and then wait for the kind of car that phangs down the fast lane at about 90mph without ever pulling in and with its lights full on. When one of these appears, I nip quickly out behind it, keep as far over to the right as I can so I’m difficult to see and I can usually jump the speeder upper and be past before they can react - especially if there is a string of speedy lights-on phang it people. A mile or so and then I can usually go back to my normal speed. The speedy guys are going a LOT faster than I’m comfortable going right now, but luckily the ones who get upset that a woman is driving a two seater and speed up seem to be mostly staying at home, so it hasn’t been a problem.

Maybe the accidents are worse because people are driving faster on what they perceive to be emptier roads. I dunno. Although the M11/M25/M23 trip is definitely quieter. But that is probably down to zero tourist traffic.

Cheers

MTM

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Lynne wrote: I’ve just bought two dresses. Goodness knows why as I’m not going anywhere to get dressed up. Must be boredom shopping

Nonsense, Lynne. You are being altruistic - keeping shops and manufacturing going, people in jobs and so on. Pat yourself on the back for being so good and buy another one. (Made in the UK hopefully, or is that not possible any more?!)

It's never occurred to me that petrol could deteriorate if not used. However, one request I shall pass on from someone who would probably wish to remain nameless is: please, everyone, fill up your tanks because the country is running out of storage facilities for oil/petrol and that will back up into production and if the sources have to shut down, the cost of restarting them will be passed on to motorists. So... spend, spend, spend everyone. Dresses, petrol, bicycles, scooters (I've got one of those - not an electric one though), and anything made in the UK. Come on, we've all cleared stuff out from the attic, there's room for more stuff to go in!

I'm sure you'll be glad to know I'll shut up now.

Well, soon... Lynne - wear your dresses on your daily walk. Brighten the streets of England, come on, you know you were born to do this.

Sorry, I've drunk too much caffeine in my tea.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Drunk on caffeine? ;o)

I do recognize that, even with all the savings we make on not going out, many people will have had their budget cut. I guess many of us have learnt to be even more thrifty than usual and we don't know what lies ahead. What I do know is that in the western world we have it easier than most even in tougher times.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’ve drunk more alcohol than I’ve used petrol :0)
Sorry Anna, I can’t brighten the streets of England. I’m in Wales and forbidden to go further than 5 miles. honestly that’s the regulation here.
I’ve just thought again about that petrol deterioration article. I see the ships bringing oil and gas in to the refineries. They’ve been non stop so if refineries are stocking fuel does it also go off in storage or is it only the additives which are put in later.
I’m certainly trying to buy British goods and have for a long while but it’s not always easy or obvious where some goods are made.
I won’t buy haberdashery bits from China but the U.K. suppliers I buy from may well have bought their stock from China.

message 13814: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments I know the problem re establishing where things are made, Lynne. We can only do our best. I buy tomatoes which are grown a couple of miles away from me. If they're not available, I can be persuaded to buy from the next county or even further afield. My husband says I take a long time to shop...

The problem with this online shopping our children are encouraging me to do is that I can't read where things come from!

Sorry about not knowing you're in Wales. I have fond memories of the Gower peninsular and a few other places I've visited. I'm sure you can dazzle the bit of Wales you're in, Lynne. We need dazzlers. I've got out a few dresses now - so it has started raining.

It must be the additives that makes it go off, but I don't really know, I can only think that oil has always been stored in huge tanks, so it's probably all right...! Probably. I could ask... but it will take a while.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, was feeling fed up yesterday, and it kept raining when I wanted to go for a walk, so I was naughty and went to big Asda to get Lucy's hairball treats, I was good and got things for 2 of the neighbours though. I do need to stop shopping like I won't be going anywhere for ages though although to be fair, I haven't been to that Asda since New Year, and now I have 6 months of Lucy's treats, might not be back for a while! Raining again, just watched a film in bed, so just Sunday chores.

It is hard to buy certain things local, but I like the idea of shopping being altruistic! Neighbour got me Yorkshire strawberries this week, never heard of them. Just waiting for English cherries now, don't buy any others, they are too bland.

message 13816: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments We buy our meat and eggs locally - from around 200 yards away! I did my own supermarket shop on Thursday, for the first time since lockdown. The problem with checking sources is that you are asked, for obvious reasons, not to touch goods you're not buying. That means you can't check where things come from unless someone's left one the right way up. Ho hum.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments I actually go to the butchers for my eggs, as I don't trust supermarkets. They may have twigged I'm a vegi seeing as I just go in once every 3/4 weeks for a box of eggs, the old owner used to see me walk in and get my change out of the till so i didn't have to queue. I haven't been able to follow the no touching rule as i need to make sure products are vegi

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, been up for ages, just watching TV in bed. Didn't get far with Sunday chores, realised my lack of shopping has resulted in low cat food levels so went online looking for offers, but very few so will have to go to b and m at some point. Think I'll go for a walk lster to cheer myself up.

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments we are lucky on the island in that we have lots of farm shops and there are loads of honesty boxes all over the place. My mother-in-law hasn't been into a supermarket in ages (I do her shopping online) but, for fun(!), my in-laws have been driving around the island to find fresh produce being sold on the roadside and in the lanes. You take what you want and either leave the money in the box or some of them take cards now!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, another cloudy day. Need to go to my local cheap shop for shampoo, think as they had to clise for a while, they need my money more than Lidl.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Well I was silly this morning. Husband decided his garage needed sorting. He had a mezzanine floor for all his stuff and can’t find a thing. He got most annoyed when I pointed out he’s the only one who puts anything up there. Anyway the squirrel is in his drey. Nothing being thrown out just rearranged!
I asked if there was anything I could do and moving pallets, roof slates , tarpaulins and stacks of old wood from the side of the shed wasn’t what I expected. I’ve done it it’s all clear and tidy and it’s done for me.
I know why he asked - he really really has a horror of spiders. He can deal with everything except them so I’ve got brownie points.
Saw the family yesterday. I’m afraid we broke the rules by taking the grandson a walk but his mum is ill still, her ears are really giving her awful problems with balance and he needed a change. Grandpa walked his legs off.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, dry but windy here, due to rain this pm. Trying to get hold of the dentist as the tooth that needs removing is starting to hurt, and got my video conference physio app at 1.

message 13832: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Having moved house just before lockdown, I need to register with a dentist. What hope?

Have you tried swigging out with Listerine, or similar, Desley? Twice a day perhaps? Just a faint hope of it easing the pain. And that hard to get hold of, useful paracetamol?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Thanks Anna, I think the problem is that the temporary cap (which has been on since Mar!), is disintegrating and exposing the root, its worse when i brush my teeth at night, but luckily I take a painkiller at bedtime. Couldn't get an app today, they are doing a telephone triage app on Mon, and dentist will decide whether i need to be seen, she said they might just give me more abs.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Theres some pain deadening gel available for emergency toothache Desley, I use clove oil but you have to be careful not to get it on your lips. Cotton wool bud and rub gently. Makes you dribble but it works.
Little lad is definitely feeling the strain with his mum being ill and lockdown. I will help out if she needs it again. Thank Jim.
We’ve had a lovely gesture from the family’s farm who supply our meat.we phoned last night as the farmers market is under cover in Fishguard so it’s closed and anyway is more than the 5 miles allowed travel in Wales. Anyway he was glad to have an order and rang to say he had to be nearby so would drop it off. Very kind of them. They do mail order but that was so quick and so helpful.

A temporary remedy I remember from my childhood is crushed aspirin, applied directly to where it hurts. It may get you some pain-free time while you sort out what to do.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Thanks for the reminder Lynne, I have some of that gel, will try it after brushing my teeth tonight, at night it goes really into my jaw, but doesn't during the day

my father always swore by chewing tobacco (or pipe tobacco) :-)
Apparently it kills the nerve rather than merely deadening the pain

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning all, thanks for the birthday wishes yesterday. Slightly sair heid this morning but that is entirely self inflicted, although I do feel that the island of Islay should probably take some of the blame.
Ran out of the favourite espresso coffee this morning too so not ideal timing!

I've never suffered toothache Desley (no fillings) so I can only sympathise. But Marathon Man always makes me think of clove oil.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Morning all, wet and windy here again. Physio was interesting, still didn't manage to start on time! She's posting me out some exercises and a follow up in 12 days. Then went for a Reservoir walk, she said that will help. Decided to go for petrol while out and made the mistake of asking neighbour if she needed anything, got sent to Aldi and Morrisons (was going to Morrisons for petrol and had to drive past Aldi to get to it), then made the mistake of ringing vegan neighbour as Aldi had new vegan food, although she at least pays straight away! Must stop being nice to neighbours! And Morrisons had cat food offers, so came back with some. Supposed to be decluttering the kitchen cabinet today, but not sure I'm in the right mood.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12596 comments Sorry R, crossposted. Glad you had a good time, don't blame you for having one too many, but shame you have run out of your favourite coffee

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Is there any left Rosie, I don’t drink whisky but might make an exception.
I was just about to write that I really identify with hamsters, my cage is clean, fresh bedding and I’m waiting for a food delivery.
If I had a wheel I’d be running in it. Then husband walks in looking stricken - outside freezer has failed and starting to cook all that lovely meat we had yesterday. Aaaaaaahhhhhh. Can’t even have a barbecue and invite everyone to fill their boots. My mind was racing can I take some to neighbours etc. Its got a service contract from the last time it stopped but that’s not really going to achieve anything - weekend - west Wales - COVID etc.
Local firm again to the rescue. Can deliver thus afternoon. I know they are supposed to be left 24 hrs after being moved but it will have to take its chance after a couple of hours. Bummer !

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Calm is restored. I’ve taken out the old frozen items and crammed them in the house freezer. The fresh meat is really fresh and filled so that's not going to spoil. It’s still very cold in the freezer and I’ve put loads of ice in. New one can be switched on in 4 hours. If push comes to shove I shall cook the joints and freeze them when they’ve cooked. Hopefully should be all sorted by tonight. daughter or neighbours can probably use some up too.
