Yes I wandered into town to get some stuff, the shop I wanted had shut and may never open again, so I went into one other shop which had what I wanted, bought it and left. Just couldn't be bothered with the faff that browsing involves

Sorry Mary. Just saw this. Its all a bit manic here, as you can imagine.
They do keep well,so premaking them will be fine. The pastry may go a bit damp, soI'd reheat them for a bit in the oven, then serve. they don't need to be piping hot inside.
I agree about short fuses. Dave and I had a full on shouting row a couple days ago. I could count on the fingers of one hand how often that's happened in our 20 years together. He was in the wrong, of course.

The universe keeps adding difficulty factors. We haven't been outside in days because of the bad air quality from the California fires - and they canceled the tiny amount of pool time we had because of them. Worried about the firefighters in this very hot weather, and we may get more lightning strikes today starting NEW fires.

No worries Patti. Thanks for that. I think I’ll make them tomorrow. 👍🏽😀

While those in charge pretend global climate change isn't happening - because then they'd have to spend money on it, and make decisions, and become unpopular.Every year seems worse lately.
Had a 2.5 hour health and safety meeting this morning, I actually really enjoyed it, especially as I haven’t seen some of my colleagues since the last meeting in Jan (we do normally have them quarterly). Was so gloomy when I got in the car at 7.40 I had to put my lights on to drive to work. I did wonder how badly affected you would be by the fires Alicia, it certainly hasn't been a good year. I'm not too bothered by the faff that browsing causes, I just find myself doing everything in one shopping trip, even though that can be quite tiring.
I'm sure they'll be yummy, Mary.Fires look horrendous, Alicia. At least its not locusts.
This wind out of the west is making me feel all jittery.
The air quality is still bad, and fires are raging everywhere because there aren't enough firefighters - and they're getting sick. But the weather pattern that was supposedly going to make it worse was much milder than predicted - so people got a breather. Evacuees are going home.
We're staying in - nothing else we can do right now - but are still relatively safe.
Africa has a plague of locusts.
What a year!
Hmm, had a call from some insurance place regarding that bump I had in Jan, I told her I didn’t want to pursue it as it was a neighbour who hit me, she asked the date of the accident, so I replied with ‘well, if you knew I’d had one, you’d know the date’! Then she asked about others, when I said no she put the phone down. Neighbour had a similar one yesterday. We had proper stormy weather yesterday, you wouldn’t tell today though, although it is overcast. At least it seems to be improving Alicia, glad you are safe
Well what an adventure - 1100 miles and we are here. We set out in that awful weather in Pembrokeshire, dreadful rain and wind all the way. Aquaplaned once which made the car work for its living. First time in 12 years all it’s stability gubbins kicked in. About 6. 30 a car in front pulled into a lay-by a man got out wearing nothing but a pair of boxer shorts, no shoes or socks either. We both saw him go behind his car but what happened next will remain a mystery as we carried on driving. It was pouring with rain and only 16°. We got off the shuttle with 22° no storm then it suddenly went to 30° and as OH was pushing hard to get to the hotel the car conked out. We went through a péage and an alarm sounded and he lost power. Wasn’t very nice being just tucked in the hard shoulder on the motorway but it restarted with a warning light. Which we looked up and it just said go to garage. We got to the hotel eventually first in safe mode then it cleared and drove properly. He left the battery off overnight and it’s reset Itself thank goodness. The thought of a proper breakdown in that heat with the dog is worrying. it got up to 40° as we got south. There’s been some nasty fires here too, they had 10 Canadairs out yesterday near Marseille. It’s very dry.
Morning, day off and I've just been woken up by Lucy being sick! Going collecting cat litter today and will have a mooch round the charity shops there and maybe some goodies from M & S. Also hoping to watch a film today. Glad you made it Lynne, doesn't sound like a fun journey! Hope you don't get affected by the fires.
I’ve starred today, I chucked the masks in the wash. The sheets were white now they are surprisingly even bright blue. It’s really hot, going from 16 to 30° is hard. I’ll be a puddle of fat and a pair of shoes when I have to iron.

Yo, dudes! Just passed our golden wedding celebration on Monday - on our own! Good job we are still very partial to each other. And I've been told to cease and desist from tea and alcohol to prevent the five-hour long bouts of palpitations I've been having. Can you die of boredom? 😂
Well I’ve requested some new magazines in God’s waiting room because that’s how I feel too Kath, in limbo and getting so bored I can’t even start something to occupy myself properly. this trip has been a real shake up or wake up, but palpitations are horrible. I could have done without them when he shouted ‘Wake up! The cars fucked up! Quote. The belt of adrenaline is still keeping me going. If they cut my coffee and alcohol though and I don’t drink much I’d be really peed off.
We also had our anniversary à deux. It wasn’t what we would have done in normal times but it was really lovely and very relaxed.

Congratulations on the fifty years
Quite a nice day yesterday, apart from my neighbour doing daft things! Quite a lot of the charity shops were still closed, including one that is closed permanently. Got some books from one, but was annoyed with myself when I got home, as I thought I’d bought the rest of the series, only when I got home did I remember there are 7 in that series, so I don’t have the final book! I think they had all 7 too. Hopefully I’ll be able to get hold of it at another one, although I have been searching for 12 months! It wasn’t all that pleasant in that one though, which is why I think I forgot. First I got barked at for walking past the hand sanitiser station, then ‘please don’t touch anything unless you think you are going to buy it’, the people after me fared worse though, one couple were refused entry as they didn’t have masks on, and a girl who sounded like a teenager was refused because she didn’t have a parent with her! She only wanted a book. Didn’t get all that much from M & S, but at least picked up my prescription. Payday today, so am going to the retail park for my neighbours (hopefully will get some stuff for myself too), and then the co-op for me. That’s interesting Lynne, I do keep finding myself unable to settle to watch any TV despite a long list of things I want to watch. Congratulations Kath, not sure I’d be able to cut out tea! But then I suppose 5 hour bouts of palpitations aren’t fun.
Morning all, sun is shining, although chilly enough that my heating kicked in! Was expensive going to the Range, they had loads of cat food offers. Was exhausted when I got home though, actually slept past 7am! Just put a washload out, not much to do this weekend, and an extra long one to boot! We still have local restrictions, rates not low enough to be released. Getting some vegan goodies this afternoon, so need to meet up with a friend to give her what she has ordered, she's been one of the best at making sure I've been ok during lockdown. Quiet on here again
We took the rain to the south if France as usual, my neighbours are grateful as they’ve not had any since July. If anyone saw the start of the Tour de France from Nice you’d see what I meant. Thunder and lightning and torrential rain.
We’re trying to do our holiday at home. The weather’s a bit shit and I’m getting nothing done, but on the other hand we are having some good times together so family side is grand. Gareth is bored and wants to do the next short! Woot! And you were right Patti, the pies were lovely. We were supposed to be in Scotland this weekend but Mum in law is ill so we are here. As a result I got a day’s metal detecting in yesterday. Found a lovely hammered coin, a watch winder and a silver thimble from the 1650s - although that’s treasure so it has to go to the coroner and I’ll probably never see it again. If I do it won’t be for the best part of three years but I can live with that.Lynne, 30 ... ah I envy you.
Cheers
MTM
Morning all, sun is shining, so put some washing on - although yesterday it did start raining in the afternoon and didn't really stop, it was cool enough at 7am for the heating to kick on today, (6!). We were going to have takeaway sunday lunch today, but neighbour decided yesterday she wanted breakfast instead, but I still want lunch, so will have to see if they can do both. Not much else to do today, might sort out the fridge, then read. Bet your neighbours in Wales will be glad if you took the rain with you Lynne. Glad things went well MT, shame you couldn't go to Scotland.
Morning all, had a lovely lunch yesterday, and again didn't need another meal. Was going to go for a walk as it was dry, but felt really tired. Sun is shining again, going to find some washing to do, and hoping to go for a walk today. Discovered that the neighbour who shares my birthday also likes similar books, so am going to lend her my old kindle so she can read some of the books I've bought. Problem is, it's that long since I've had to put books on it, I couldn't remember how to do it! Friend suggested doing it through my amazon account, which seems to have worked!I wish I could give you some too Alicia, how is it over there at the moment?
We had a lovely warm sunny day here yesterday but the previous two were very windy with high tides hitting the sea wall behind my beach hut so vigorously that I was getting splashed. Went home with a salty face and crunchy hair! Calm and sunny again today though. Still lots of visitors around, mostly English. Very few foreigners, unsurprsisngly.
All the French August holiday makers went on Saturday. It’s back to being sleepy hollow here. It’s lovely. I can’t say it’s quiet as they’ve been doing a really big renovation on the school and they are desperate to finish for them going back later this week. I don’t mind the hammering etc. I’ve had a really good clearing and decluttering session, OH has sorted his socks and underwear and seems to have more now than he started with. 🙄
Passably warm today so we got a few outstanding garden jobs done. It's a friend's birthday so we'll be off our early(ish) tomorrow bearing gifts. Hope to get another garden sesh in tomorrow but I don't hold out great hopes.

The air quality is better; the outdoor pool is open again, for its very carefully prescribed and socially-distanced half-hour slots. Cautiously optimistic - thanks for asking.

really pleasant day here :-)
Alicia wrote: "...Sounds so English somehow. Enjoy!"
Or Scottish! I was being diplomatic in not describing English folk as foreigners ;)
Another beautiful day here. It was so still this morning I could even hear the lobster boats going out early to check the creels. And the early morning bus arriving from Edinburgh
It’s lovely here too. A bit fresher but that’s welcome. OH is masked, overalled sanding and painting shutters outside. I’ve done a shedload of ironing so I do feel better now the place feels more like home again. The kiddies went back to school today across the road. Some had backpacks bigger than them. When our grandson goes back they aren’t allowed to take school bags. Masks are obligatory in all shops and public places here but not for the children in infants & juniors.
Looks a nice day, car said 7 when I got in it this morning, all my colleagues (well, there are only 5 of us!) opened windows when I got here, I felt like putting the heater on! Nipping to Aldi on the way home to do my food shopping. If they aren't allowed to take school bags Lynne, how are they supposed to carry their homework?
Lovely day and we got garden work done, visited a friend with her birthday present and did the same walk as last Monday. No kingfishers but five buzzards soaring above the wood. That would have been a rare sight not so long ago.
I remember when I was just in my teens going up to the Island of Rhum and seeing a buzzard and being told how amazingly rare they were.A couple weeks ago as I was out walking locally I could hear two shouting to each other :-)
We have one which often perches on a particular telegraph pole. There's a kestrel who perches three poles along as well at times
There are dozens of buzzards round here! I've even seen one affixed (in a somewhat dead state) to the front of a train arriving at the station.
He’s only 5 Desley. He does get homework but it’s usually a piece of paper not a book, but he does have a reading book, so that could get wet in bad weather. He’s had to have a new lunchbox which he can put everything in, drinks etc. Not sure how that’s all going to work, but as I’m away and his mum is no longer working due to her illness she’s taking him to school now. I hope she can manage the walk to school.
We got the pool back this week - my spine really needed the stretching. Even a half-hour is huge. Get another chance on Friday. The air quality here depends on which way the wind blows, and was almost clear today. It makes SUCH a difference to get out of the apartment.
Forgot to mention yesterday, our database had an upgrade over the weekend, it now looks completely different to what I have been used to – I was supposed to be showing a colleague a few things yesterday afternoon, but had to cancel as I couldn’t work it, never mind show someone what to do! We have rescheduled for this pm, which is slightly better as I’m working from home today. Was 17 when I got in the car after work yesterday, and had a little stand off with a squirrel who wasn’t sure whether to cross the road as I was driving near it! Overcast today, and just started to rain. Had to ring the doctor this morning as I messed up with my inhaler again, and got asked if I would like to book my flu jab, she agreed this year it wouldn't be wise to wait till Nov like I normally do, so am booked in next month. Had to chuckle at the instructions on the text - wait outside, have your arm ready as you are asked in, I have visions of them jabbing me as I walk in the door and then ushered out of the back door!I was shocked at how much homework my 6 year old nephew had last year Lynne, I think he had some the year before too. Fingers crossed your daughter manages while you are away. I don’t know how you have managed with such restricted access Alicia, I can’t cope with spending one whole day in my own house!
Jim wrote: "cabin fever is real and people don't realise they're suffering from it"You are so right. We have our Younger Women 1st Wednesday lunch today on the Madrone Terrace. It was a wonderful warm but shaded time there, and open air, so we distanced but ate lunch without masks for a while. I've missed it so much. Good for the mental health.
I’ve had a flu jab text yesterday but Desley imagining how they will do it is reminiscent of the polio jab (pre sugar cube days ) as an infant at school, all in a line, big needle and I think they used the same one all the way down the line in those days. Lovely weather here. He’s doing well. Three lots of shutters painted only the front door and a gate to do. He can’t do the gate because the mason has come to do the crack in the wall which is brillant because he only asked him on Friday. It’s the dryness that caused the fissure Jim, it wouldn’t happen in your your region or west wales :o)
Lynne (Tigger's Mum) wrote: "It’s the dryness that caused the fissure Jim, it wouldn’t happen in your your region or west wales :o) ..."On our side of the country it might disappear under water :-)
Hmm, now I’m being asked if I would be happy having training on our customer care system to help out for holiday cover – in one way I don’t mind as it’s something new and could help me in the future, but they’ve not actually asked my boss if they are OK to ask me, so I feel a bit awkward about it. Getting fed up of Christmas e-mails, I know people have to budget, but I do wish they would let us get Halloween out of the way first. I ended up having to go to 2 chemist’s last night to get my inhaler, tried telling my usual one that they can take me off the list of people for a flu jab, but just got told ‘we haven’t started yet’! Glad you were able to have a socially distanced lunch Alicia.
