Jim | 21812 comments I suppose there is always the vague possibility of a teetotal teacher ;-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Woke up ridiculously early, but don't feel as drained as yesterday. Knee is killing though, thanks to Lucy lying on it after giving her her meds and going back to bed. Got the housework to finish and going to wash some of the cat bedding as it is nice again. Looking forward to the Peter James interview, then might have a soak in the bath.

Thanks guys, I don't think I did drink enough yesterday. Luckily this blurred vision makes it easier to see than last time, but I'm not leaving the eye uncovered. Hope the power comes back soon Patti.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Sorry to nag you Desley but when my OH had an eye problem the ophthalmologist said it was important to drink enough water. It affects the eyes a lot if you’re dehydrated.
Not very motivated this morning, I’m still in my dressing gown summoning up the ooomph to get showered and glammed up. That’s just when the doorbell rings,
Have a good Sunday all.

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Spent yesterday outfitting the kids for prom and school and now I have to arrange a meeting with the bank manager to explain where all the money went.

(As if banks have people who actually meet with their customers any more. A phone call is all I can expect)

Have a lovely, lovely day.

Ooh, I didn't know that! I often forget to drink... I have notes in my diary saying 'drink', how sad is that! I often have sore eyes too.

Right, I'm off to the kitchen to get some water with lemon juice in it. Healthy and wise. Missing out the middle word - wealthy!

message 11206: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morn... Oh, Afternoon all.
Went out yesterday with our Natural History Society, a thing I often did before I got the tendinopathy in my left foot. I've been building up my tolerance for walking so I thought I'd give it a go. Turns out that was the longest walk they've done all year! Three quarters of the way round (hilly woodland with scattered lakes) I gave in and limped the shortcut to the road. I sat there for twenty minutes or so till husband, who'd accompanied me to the road, caught up with the rest, collected the car and picked me up. Bit off more than I could chew. Today I'm walking like a zombie! Sort of shuffling. It's loosening up, though. Must remember, start small, work up!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments No need to apologise Lynne, at work I have drinks every hour and a half, even if I haven't finished the last one, as I feel my body temperature drop, but I'm really bad at home. Maybe that was why I felt really thirsty yesterday, my body is fighting inflammation in more than one place, maybe it needs more food and drink to do that! Neighbour has a bad knee today too and said she was going to put an ice pack on, which made me think that was a good thing, so now I've practically finished the housework (just a few cat bowls left to wash when there is space) and I'm sitting updating my book challenges, I'm trying it. Did feel tired at 1.30 but only had half an hour till drops, so couldn't lie down. Thinking of making stuffed peppers now I'm feeding myself.

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Desley, cross fingers drinking more helps you.

I certainly need a drink. A visiting 4 year old decided to practice her ballet (as seen on YouTube) and promptly pulled a bedroom radiator off the wall. naturally the soldered joints couldn't cope with the twisting of the radiator falling off then being reattached to the wall, so tomorrow's job is some plumbing...

message 11209: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments I think it would be less trouble to have to keep a bull in a bedroom rather than a four year old child

It's funny you should say that Gaff, I phoned the school on Friday to check that monetary gifts would be okay and to see if there was a formal process for it (there isn't). I'm going to send in a card with a few quid in it for the nursery to spend on whatever supplies they need. I was speaking to a colleague about how we've even been asked to send 1 whiteboard marker at the start of the year when I realized how strapped the school must be for essentials. Good to have it confirmed by another teacher that it would be appreciated, the Head Teacher certainly sounded delighted when I spoke to her about it, better than another mug or another box of chocolates.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments G'Day! Reading, writing - and I'm competent at 'rithmetic but I don't do that for fun.
Its jolly damp her but not actually raining. When I lifted the chicken water bowl there was a mass of woodlice underneath - but not for long! Chickens apparently find them delicious.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’ll have to get some chickens. I have woodlice by the thousand. Pennysows they call them locally. Well I think it’s local as I never heard that before I came to Pembrokeshire. They don’t taste very nice though. I really do have recurring nightmares of eating a pink yogurt and the second spoonful reveals a mass of them. It gives me the willies. I did get one in my mouth once which I think triggered it off. I took a glass from the pantry shelf and poured some wine in without seeing it. Yukkk.
Really thick fog here today, sports day postponed for the third time to grandsons delight. He has joint hyper mobility so he’s not very fast at running etc. He said he’s not happy being a loser, bless him.

message 11216: by Ben (new)

Ben Bruce | 40 comments No sun here, it's all grey and humid, the sort where it doesn't actually feel that warm, until you actually try and do something, then you get caked in sweat. Nice. Really need a good storm to blow it all out.

Still, only a week of work left, then I've got a week off, which is well overdue.

And most importantly, glad you can get yourself off for a wee now Lynne!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Back to overcast here. Really enjoyed the Peter James interview yesterday. Trying to drink more, but not sure I’m managing it. I’m going to nip to the chemist on the way home tonight to get some effervescent paracetamol, see how well that works, it's supposed to be 35% more effective and get into your system 10% quicker.

Good luck with the radiator today Will. That’s quite sad Jud, at least you know what you give will be appreciated. Urgh, no wonder you get nightmares about that Lynne.

It's a joke that probably has his accountant chuckling! :-)

I'm going to try something like that. How about, "Science proves that people who buy the work of Indie writers live longer, have far more interesting social lives, and are infinitely more desirable than those who don't"

For the scientific proof we'll do three hundred trials and discard the 299 which don't prove it as 'statistical aberrations' :-)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments My palm trees are all gone now, it’s lighter in the room too. OH liked them but I didn’t. They made a dreadful mess in the gales and cut my hands picking up the leaves. Still there’s loads of logs off them. Which I ve just been asked to start moving them tomorrow while he goes to get building supplies to rebuild the wall. Hmmmm I may be a while coming back from the school run.
one thing I meant to say my original kindle keyboard died. OH ordered a new battery and put it in. It still wouldn’t work, it didn’t appear to want to charge anyway we left it sitting on his desk, I think he used it as a coaster once or twice. Whether the tea did it good or what but I looked at it and the screen message had changed and it’s now working perfectly. So if anyone has the same problem just be patient a few days, don’t throw it away too quickly.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Morning all.

Disaster. My back is buggered and my gym has closed, forever, without warning. Nobody knows why but without the gym the buggered back will continue because it’s sciatica and some exercise on some of the equipment at the gym is the only thing that fixes it. I’ll have to find a swimming pool. Sigh.

I have to do a talk on metal detecting at McMini’s school today. Frankly, I’m shitting it. There’s no parking put there either and I have to trudge all the way up there with two metal detectors and some exhibits in the rain.

Cheers

MTM

Might I suggest the McKenzie exercises? Robin McKenzie is an Australian physical therapist, and I use the exercises daily to get the disc in my spine which pinches the sciatic nerve back in its place. Very gentle, not vigorous, and you can do them the instant something starts hurting (in fact, the sooner the better).

The book (7 Steps to a Pain-free Life) is a little rambling; the practice, easy and effective.

Dealing with the root cause of the sciatica just feels right - no painkillers or medical appointments, and available without prescription at any time of day or night.

Let me know if you're interested - hope you don't mind me telling you about something I've been using since botched spinal surgery in 2007.

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Morning all. Shattered after sports day yesterday. Thankfully, being on the computer literate end of things, I was in the scoring booth and managed to avoid getting burned to a crisp like some of the other staff, but it was figuratively roasting hot in the room. It's a mixed bag in terms of lessons today, so let's see what fresh horrors the little darlings can unleash ...

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’ve just finished lugging logs from the front garden to the back. OH thought it would be a good idea to put them in the garden wheelie bin and then haul it up the spiral steps at the back of the garage. He thought it would be a help to me. I lingered at Lidl and when I got back he’d started on the logs but his brilliant idea with the wheelie bin nearly killed him. Genius man in theory only.
I put a bag on the little buggy pushchair I keep in the car and did my share. My back is complaining now though, those steps up from the back of the garage are killers. Gardening sucks some days. It’s never grateful and often dangerous. Sympathy for Will. I’m good at cutting things I shouldn’t too.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Got really muggy yesterday, temp said 24 but was just stuffy rather than pleasant. Back to rain again today though. Effervescent paracetamol might taste awful, but it certainly felt like I’d taken something stronger. Had a really hectic morning, not good as my knee was really bad this morning, started twinging my sciatica and keep forgetting the time I was supposed to take my drops unfortunately. Fingers crossed I won’t get shouted at when I go this afternoon.

Good about the kindle Lynne. Sorry that your gym closed and you are going to struggle to do your back exercises MT, hope you can find an alternative. Good luck with the talk. That's interesting Alicia, I find the magnets keep mine under control well, and I remember some exercises the osteopath gave me, wonder if they are similar? Oh dear Will! Good luck for the interview Jud.

I'm fine, thank you. Nothing some hard swearing and a glass of single malt didn't cure. The whisky was a necessary preventative after being out in the rain splicing phone cables together...

I am VERY glad that we moved, and are no longer in charge of a house and garden and yard.

I say 'we' advisedly: dear husband pruned the bushes in New Jersey by climbing on a painting platform with electric hedge trimmers. At least FIVE times he also cut through the extension cord. Then he'd buy a new one. He promised to get someone else to do it - when he had them to his satisfaction so he could show 'them' how he wanted the bushes maintained. In over three years, he never found someone. I worried, he pruned. I waited by the phone, he trimmed.

Everything looked very nice.

I'd rather have a husband.

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments MT, am sure you will rock it. How is your mum doing?

Alicia, blimey, that would've been frightening!

Weather is picking up. Meant to be 32 by the weekend, which will please the tourists who are indeed arriving en-masse. We have lots of UK and French visitors, but there are also charter flights coming in from Germany and other European cities.

Have the works summer party on Saturday night. It is a 10 minute walk along the coast for us - by a Victorian seawater swimming pool and lido. At the end of the boardwalk is a stone built round enclosure where they have private parties.

However, virtually nothing I have fits me so that'll be a trauma before the night! I'll worry about that later in the week. Too late to diet now. Errr, unless some has a miracle plan?

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Good Morning. It's a grey morning here. Or even mornjng as the kindle wanted to put.

Hope everyone is well and getting ready for summer breaks and holidays.

I'm snatching every possible minute to read between work, transporting mum around and sleeping. I need to do some decluttering but time is not available. We have two hospital visits next week.

Some time ago I wrote a review for one of Steve Robinson's books and Amazon said it was against their T&C. I have no idea why. I tried again with the next book in the series with the same result. So when Amazon sent requests for me to review things that I bought I didn't bother. A couple of weeks ago they sent me a recommendation for an audio book and I listened to the sample. It was dreadful. I couldn't find anywhere to review on Audible without buying it but tried to review on Amazon - saying that I listened to the sample and wasn't going to buy it and it wasn't even worth one star as it was so bad. And they let me review it!!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments That’s so right Alicia, I’m at that stage with my husband. When he’s surprised how tired or sore he is after doing hard work he can’t seem to make the connection. He makes no concessions to getting older. Though today brought it home in a joking way. He always used to tease his parents as they used to go out early to shop on the bus which was free out of peak hours. They wouldn’t wait until after so they set off earlier and then had to wait for the shops to open. We went to the garage to drop my car off for a recall job this morning and ended up home before 9. He stopped at the cash machine to get money and it wasn’t in service, we then went down to the docks to get some fresh fish and they’d weren’t open either. I then reminded him of his parents.😁

It worries me that someone I know might have left a review, sat back, said nothing but hoped I'd at least thank them. How can I if I don't receive it?

Definitely no sign of a Sahara summer here in the south-east at the moment. Pleasantly warm and sunny yesterday, windy, grey and chilly this morning.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning

Starting to get nervous about the interview, it;s supposed to be pretty informal since it's through a recruitment agency but even so... I'm so rubbish at interviews.

Enjoy your fish and chips, Kath!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Well, a mixed result at the hospital. Inflammation has gone down, so he tried suggesting skipping the 2 hourly drops and going to 6 times a day but I refused, that is what has caused this rebound, so he relented. Unfortunately, this bout of inflammation has caused a cataract, hence the cloudy vision I’ve had for the past week. He was very blasé about it, just said that he could operate on it! Apparently it is very common with iritis, but feel very gutted about it, seeing as I’m not even 40 yet! Have a follow up in 5 weeks and he said he’d discuss it then. Did do a google search when I got home, if I did opt for surgery, I’d need steroid and NSAID drops before and after as there is a strong chance of an iritis flare! Plus I’d then need glasses for life. Luckily my other eye is good enough that I can still drive. Then I had to nip to Lidl and my knee objected to all the walking, so had to go to bed at 8.30 to lie down, woke up at 3.30 really hot with pain in my bunion/toes, which I’ve not had for months. Lucy tried lying on me, but the pressure of just her front paws on my leg was too painful. Didn’t really get back to sleep either. Was going to reduce my anti-inflams as my eye is better, but could barely put my tights on this morning, so that isn’t an option! Oh well, maybe as I get older I’ll stop acquiring health issues! Work was very hectic this morning, we are short staffed with our event today, not really been able to do much of my own job this week, and now not got the inclination! And got to do the food shopping after work. At least I have cake

Ooh, I love that pool Kelly, my brothers first flat overlooked it. Am sure you will find something to wear. Sorry things are so hectic Janet.

Recruitment agencies WANT you to get a job - they will coach you unmercifully. They don't get paid unless they place people - they are on YOUR side.

Milk them for every helpful thing you can get. Please don't be nervous - you have to succeed for them to succeed. It is the perfect setup.

Don't let them push you into something you can't actually do, but everything else is gravy.
