Not that hot here today really, actually quite pleasant. Thunder is rumbling around us now though and it’s gone apocalyptically gloomy."

Yes sorry to hear about your dog Lynne.

We had rain during the evening yesterday, and I don't think the temperature got over 24. Today it's supposed to be a lot cooler but I don't think the BBC got round to telling the Sun

message 11302: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (last edited Jun 30, 2019 12:17AM) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments It eventually turned sunny here in the afternoon. The mist and clouds stayed solid all morning so that heatwave that everyone else was suffering/enjoying was pure fiction to us.
Big dog is awfully quiet, ( except when he’s launching himself at the front windows). He can smell other dogs before they are in sight. He’s not aggressive though, he’s very friendly but just likes the sound of his own bark. Apart from that the house seems really quiet and OH is devastated.
Grandson bit poorly again, raging temperature yesterday, daughter hoping he wasn’t going in for another croup session found his lower front teeth loose and two new teeth just about through. That’s a bit of a shock. I didn’t see that on Friday when I cleaned his teeth before school. It’s early but his first ones did come through early too. She sent me a photo late last night and they are now through.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4838 comments There is such a void left, isn't there?

Glad the young one got his teeth, but it isn't easy pushing them through.

message 11304: by Will (new)

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Good morning folks.

Don't want to sound ungrateful and all that, but can we have a slightly cooler day today please?

At least today I don't have to wear the full dinner jacket rig that I needed yesterday for the BBITW's last day of school party.

Best wishes, Lynne. If it's any comfort, voids do get filled ... eventually. Thinking of you.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Ended up in bed early, so got up early, but as the weather forecast has changed and we now have blue skies rather than rain, I'm not bothered. We did go back to bed after Lucy's meds, and I just had to persuade her to get up, so kind of a lazy morning! Bit of housework to do, doing the pet supplies order and treating myself to a couple of bits off Amazon.

Fingers crossed it was just his teeth making grandson off. It's odd, doesn't matter how many animals you have in the house, it feels quiet when you lose one.

message 11306: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments The forecast is for a cooler day, which I will welcome, but still a dry one, which I most definitely welcome.

The day is filled with the little stuff that we so often dismiss as unimportant, but is in fact the lubricant that stops our lives from grinding to a halt.

Hope you all get the day you want and deserve.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Good Morning.

We didn't get much sun yesterday it was overcast but still rather warm. There was some rain overnight - it was just starting when I came away after getting mum off to bed. Today has started off very grey and cloudy again.
I need to do some shopping for mum sometime today. I would rather read.

message 11308: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments A little cooler today, so far, as it is cloudy and like Janet, I wish I could be reading. Maybe later today - a nice sit in a summer garden with a book, what more could anyone want?

Sounds a good day to me!

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Howdy? Just back from a visit to grandson and his entourage. What a happy little chappie! All the shopkeepers know him by name and he told them who we are. Basking in his reflected fame.

Barbie now - just as the wind's got up.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Our grandson was really dehydrated, he came home from school on Friday with a full bottle of water so I think there will have to be something said, kiddies need to be reminded to drink especially in this heat. He wasnt the only one there’s a another one we know of quite poorly too.

message 11312: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments Yes children at that age need reminding!

message 11313: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4838 comments Spent an hour in the outdoor pool in the late afternoon, followed by some time in the hot tub.

I love that it's someone else's responsibility to clean the things. I spent too many years doing that for an above-ground one for the kids. They never did much of the actual work!

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Morning all. Just three weeks until the holidays!! I'm looking forward to spending most of my freedom writing, but it's going to have to be an August version of NaNoWriMo so that I can get the majority of the last book finished before I have to come back. This means, of course, that I have just three weeks to do some planning and plot tuning! Let's see how it goes! :-)

Sorry to hear about Daisy, Lynne

Our sun left us on Friday, it has been very muggy all weekend and today it is cooler and it is delicious.

message 11316: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Sun has deserted us too. Mind you I was quite grateful for its absence yesterday as I did about 12 miles on the Coastal Path with some visitors.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Well Monday has started badly. I was ready to go out when daughter phoned in urgence. She was waiting for the paramedics for Harry. He’s croupy, sick and a very high temperature. He’s gone off to hospital now In the ambulance, I’ve locked up for her and sorted cats and dogs out and come home. I just hope they get to the bottom of it as being fobbed off with ‘it’s probably a virus’ at the doctors every 10 days is wearing a bit thin. Even the little lad has got the gist of it as he went with them to the vets because their dog had a sore eye and he told the vet. ‘It’s probably a virus’

message 11319: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Yes Jud, he’s missing such a lot of school too. Poor little lad. He’s got an appointment for August to see a paediatrician so the GP doesn’t want to prescribe anything at all until then. It’s not an ideal situation at all.

message 11320: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I hope someone comes up with an answer, Lynne, That's no way to go on till August.

Morning all. Cloudy with sunny spells here. Pleasant, at least.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Didn’t want to get up this morning and eye socket was a bit sore, it doesn’t look red like it did when it went sore last time though, so not ringing the ward. Raining here, was going to test my normal glasses, but decided against it with it being a bit sore. New wraparound glasses are coming today.

Yes, I think you do need to say something Lynne, being dehydrated won’t have helped with his teeth coming through. Sorry that he has got bad enough to need an ambulance, fingers crossed they do get to the bottom of it this time. Hopefully this might mean they pull his appointment forward. Sounds a lovely afternoon Alicia.

Hope your eye's feeling better - dealing with all this can be exhausting.

Warm water was so good for stretching in. Husband attempts a few laps - I just bob around like a happy cork.

message 11328: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Good - oooh, Good Noon!
Best wishes for the little lad, Lynne. it's horrible to see them when they're ill.

Spent some time this morning out on my constitutional and some writing back to an author abut a beta read. Now I'm getting stuck into my Netgalley - a kind of Lord of the Flies for girls. That makes it sound horribly derivative but it's not. No more than any other murder mystery is derivative of Agatha Christie.

Laters...

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Not the best start to the day, woke up at 4.20, realised at 5 that I wasn’t getting back to sleep without a painkiller, was just dozing off when Lucy disturbed me by being sick at 6.20! So figured I’d get up. Knee is really bad again today, got my new sunglasses on that I’m not sure are dark enough, eye was a bit twingy in the car. Better than yesterday, but just put drops in and bottom looks a bit red, hope I’ve not got something else going on! Really must stop complaining, there are a lot of people worse than me. Going to nip to Lidl after work and get a stir fry kit to have with my smoked tofu, still getting excited about being able to cook for myself.

Glad the steroids helped Lynne, do hope he is fine today. Thanks Alicia, that might explain why I’ve had so many early nights the past week. Mind you, doesn’t help that I keep forgetting my body needs extra energy and rest while it’s trying to heal various things.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’ve just off loaded my grandson to his dad. I love him dearly but I’m not sorry when he goes home. His temperature is still up but he’s still coughing but not croupy. I’ll see what tomorrow brings.
I did nip out and leave husband with him this morning to get my hair cut. I’ve made a big decision not to colour my hair just to see after all these years what’ colour it is now. It looks good but I’m not sure I really like it. It’s growing on me literally. OH does, he thinks I’ve had it dyed silver.

I have a problem remembering to get extra rest, too, Desley - and then I wonder why I'm not functioning. It's because I'm not functioning that I forget! Vicious circle; extra rest always helps.

I'm getting better at it, slowly.

I always wanted to be a platinum blonde - my hair was 'dark blonde' growing up - so I let it go, and I love it. Just put enough conditioner on so it's not flyaway, and enjoy.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I love ‘Arctic silver’. Thank you Jim & Alicia. I shall use that in future however I read it as artic silver. I do need to lose a few pounds in weight but I’m not juggernaut dimensions (yet).
I had a text from daughter at 4 a.m. to say they were just leaving the hospital in Carmarthen. Little lad had another session and either they or the paramedics had taken him back to hospital. Our local hospital has no paediatric service after 6 so they had to go to Glangwili. He was running a temperature all day yesterday and coughing such a lot but a dry cough so I’m not surprised he wasn’t well in the night, He had a note to say he had open access to the children’s ward for 48 hours when he came out on Monday. The note also said the ward was closed at 6 pm. If any child is admitted during the day but not discharged and has to stay in hospital they are taken by ambulance then to Glangwili. Last night around 5 pm the road was blocked due to an ‘incident’. It’s about 40 miles for us. Sorry to moan but the Welsh NHS is devolved. So it’s run by Labour. When they start about the tories running down the NHS be warned. They are no different.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4838 comments So sorry this has happened to your little one; his parents must be frantic, too.

They can't stay overnight? Could they make it any more difficult for the kids? Sick kids.

message 11336: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments And another lovely day. So lovely that K's rellies from London have decided to stay on for a bit. Can't blame them really. Here is lovely and everyone can sit out happily, while in London they apparently have to be alert for frozen stowaways dropping in unexpectedly. (So awful that. How desperate must you be to try clinging to a passenger jet's undercarriage?)

No there’s no paediatric cover now overnight so poor little one have to be transferred. Doesn’t matter they’re not politicians kids.
It’s the thin end of the social engineering wedge. We may be bumpkins in the countryside but we aren’t stupid.

Yes that was awful wasn’t it. He was stowed in the landing gear place with some of his possessions so we were thinking if that had jammed it could have put the whole plane into an emergency situation.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Hmm, woke up at 4 today, if I keep waking up earlier every day, there won’t be much point going to bed soon! Foolishly tried using gel on my sore knee this morning as it wasn’t that sore this morning, but now eye is puffy, and I cant take an tablet as I’ve had gel! Mind you, could also be lack of sleep. At least it isn’t painful. Doing food shopping after work.

Sorry that grandson has had to go back to hospital Lynne, can’t believe they have to be transferred, surely that could make their problems worse? Hope you get used to your colour. It is a vicious circle Alicia, and sometimes I get frustrated, especially with having to go to bed early.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Good stupid o'clock. By the time we leave, my body may be on uk time.

We're still waiting on the replacement credit card so we can hire a car. Bloody stupid they have an expiry date. Even more stupid it's taking so long in the post.been almost a week now.

Still, we're getting lots of the summer jobs sorted. Still need to make an appointment with the solicitor to update our wills. Will do that today.

Highlight of the summer so far is that I found some lovely cotton/linen dresses on Amazon for really good prices. They have pockets! Will be perfect for the redickalus heat that we endure in Myanmar.
Gotta say I'm enjoying the cool here. Loving the lack of mossies, too.

I'm sorry you're going through so much at the moment Lynne. I hope the little guy recovers quickly.

Had a trike ride this morning before it got too hot, and went bobbing in the pool after dinner while it was still hot, and, boy, am I probably going to pay for it all tomorrow!

But it was all done gently, and was good for the ol' mental state.

message 11348: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments It's another beautiful day, as only Wales can achieve. (And possibly the Lakes, too, Jim!)

And the rellies have just departed. The sudden absence of a 2 year old makes the place seem astonishingly quiet

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Managed to sleep through till 5.15 today, did get back to sleep but then got disturbed by one of the neighbours putting something in a bottle bin at 6.20, so got up. Was a bit cloudy earlier so tried wearing my normal glasses, managed OK till the sun came out, then eye got a bit twingy. Did joke to a colleague that I’m seeing how many pairs of glasses I can wear, am up to 4 this week. Knee is a bit better, so on gel again today, but heel is hurting again.

Sorry you are having issues with your credit card Patti, good you have managed to get some stuff done and well done on the dresses. Hope you aren’t too bad today Alicia. Glad everyone is cheery with the weather. How temporary is the job Jud?

message 11350: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments 2 and a half months! There is a possibility of extension though, but it'll be better than sitting here reading novels all day. I'll actually be doing work and getting experience.

I hope your knee is better tomorrow and you get more sleep tonight too!

We already have our new credit card and it doesn't expire until the end of this month. We've had it for a month or two already, it sucks you are still waiting for yours, Patti.
