Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Lovely day here too, I thought I’d posted earlier but perhaps not. It’s our wedding anniversary today so we ve just had a lovely lunch outside in the sun. We risked having a bottle of wine as I’d not dared have any alcohol for a week in case we had to drive anywhere because the grandson was so poorly.
Littke lad not coughing and temperature down so fingers crossed he’s responding well to the antibiotics. If that was what was needed it only took , 1 emergency appointment, 2 admissions to hospital and two ambulances with paramedics on board.
The article I read about the rise in sepsis this morning doesn’t come as any great surprise.

And so glad you could celebrate with cautious optimism about the wee one - they are so precious.

At 6, when I woke up the first time, I reached for the industrial-strength-ear-protection-headgear-with-eye-mask that lives next to my bed. It squeezes my head a bit (so I don't wear it every moment in bed), but blocks all light and sound - and I slept three more hours!

Don't know if you could use something like that, since you have to be aware for the kitties, but it sure helps with sleep deprivation. I am a much more pleasant person to be around if I've had a reasonable amount of sleep!

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning!

Yes Jim, I think so too. I was really excited when they told me they were waiting for an offer coming through for me. And this job will be a challenge but hopefully a good one :o)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning all, sorry have been away for a few days in London at elder daughter's graduation. Convocation ceremony was held in the Royal Albert Hall :)
London was very hot and very busy. It's not for me! Impressed by how easy it is to get around on the tube and buses now with contactless payment though.

Well done on job Jud, you will definitely be happier doing something useful! Worrying time for your family Lynne, I hope the antibiotics finally knock the illness on its head!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Well, finally had my one-to-one, but ended up crying when my boss asked about my health issues! Messed up with the cats again when Lucy was fussing at 6.45. Eye a bit sore today, but not sure I'm just imagining it is going red again. At least I have nothing on after work, although we have had the pet supply orders come the last two days and they are still sat in boxes - we had an issue with Yodel though, they just dumped the box on my neighbours doorstep! Bitiba also had another packing issue, but worked in my favour this time.

That's really promising Jud, shame they can't make it more permanent. Sorry you didn't like London R!

Cloudy and a hint of drizzle but promises to get out later

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Urgh, up again at 4, did get a few more hours but then needed the loo but brain too awake to get more sleep after feeding the cats. Need to sort the house out today, all the various deliveries are just lying around waiting for me to have enough energy to deal with them. Can't say I have much of that today, but will alternate it with watching TV. Cloudy today, hope it warms up a bit, was hoping to get loads of washing done. Got home last night and neighbour suggested going out for tea, I agreed even though I had food that needed eating, we went to a pub on the canal and as she drove, I treated myself to a mango and passionfruit gin, figured I deserved a treat!

Sorry that isn't your idea of a good day Darren!

And ended with coffee and cake!

message 11367: by Will (new)

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments My trip to the barbers was eventful. She suggested that she and I should open a Thai restaurant together. In Godalming.

Despite the fact that neither of us are Thai. Or can cook. Or know how to run a restaurant. And that the last (only?) Thai restaurant in Godalming has just closed down.

But apart from that ...

Have a good day, y'all. Beware of acquaintances in the service sector making unusual employment propositions.

message 11368: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments Travelin wrote: "For that matter, beware anyone making propositions to be Thai together, especially in a town called Godalming."

It does strike me as a somewhat strange business proposition but still, what consenting adults get up to behind closed doors is surely no business of mine.
But I confess to being somewhat bemused about the choice of Thai cuisine, or was it the fact that the demise of the other business had left a gap in the market?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Slightly better sleep, Sunday chores to do, then going to the rescue Lucy is from as it is their summer fair, sun is shining so hopefully will be a good turnout for them.

Walk, coffee and cake sounds good to me Jim! I love Thai food, you could come here and open one!

message 11370: by Will (new)

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments I think the main rationale was that she liked Thai food. The gap in the market may also have been a factor.

It struck me as an unusual suggestion to make while holding a pair of scissors.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good morning, just in time to say that. It’s cloudy but very warm here. Excitement yesterday, cruise liner in the bay, we were yarn bombed by the lady knitters and the carnival came down the road. We took the barky beggar into the front garden for a bit of desensitisation and he was perfect. Didn’t bark at anyone passing - carnival lorries, marching bands, spidermen, zombies, Shrek or sharks. Then a postman we know, a Round Tabler passed with his collecting bucket and that was that. He didn’t half move quick.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Well, nearly didn't end up at the fair, started getting a bit lightheaded while doing the girls room, but felt a bit better after a drink and a shower so made myself go, really glad I did, got to see one of their long term dogs enjoying himself he's so lucky. Seemed to be a lot of people, so hopefully they have raised a bit. Been a mix of sun, cloud and wind, have just cooked tea, not sure I like basil tofu, now just the washing up to do.

Sounds interesting Lynne.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4838 comments Nice quiet weekend, finished with a dip in the outdoor pool and hot tub, and trimmed my hair.

Have to face new doctor and get prescription for pain meds - you'd think it was going to turn into Breaking Bad the way they fuss. He started by cutting my daily dosage in half without even talking to me. I'm taking husband - done with nonsense. H has to live with me in pain, and for some reason men talking to men (and ignoring the little woman) do better. Eejit.

having said that, the last thing you need is a misogynistic doctor. Perhaps you should be looking for another.

Yeah Jud, the new card should have been waiting for us in the piles of post when we arrived. Pissed off it wasn't. It better come today.

message 11376: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4838 comments I may - if he doesn't explain on Tuesday.

I just hate having to use my limited energy to go in the first place, and I don't usually take spouse, but this isn't the relationship I need with a doctor who already admitted he knows nothing about ME/CFS.

And, when asked, admitted he couldn't refer me to a specialist - because this medical system doesn't have one.

His only option is to do exactly as I tell him - we'll see if that flies.

I remember that vaguely from my childhood. I do feel nervous though about re reading childhood favourites, in case I ruin memories.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Well, our friend from Malta went home today, so was woken up at 3.25 by the taxi and didn’t get back to sleep till 5! Then disturbed again by one of the neighbours going to work at 6.20. Had my field vision test today, annoyingly I have to wait for the results, but the promising thing is that I can read all except the bottom line (and bits of that) with my bad eye, which is the best since this started a month ago, so feel relieved about that if nothing else.

Sorry that the doc has halved your meds without a discussion, I know some people over here have had the anti-inflams I take reduced. Good luck getting it resolved, shame they don’t have a specialist you could see. I read Secret Garden the other year as part of my classics challenge Jud, not sure how much I enjoyed it though. Not seen GL for a bit, anyone heard from her?

message 11380: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4838 comments Thanks, Jud & Desley. It is annoying, but it can also lead to a lot more trouble if I can't manage the pain. Husband printed out the medical records of the previous place in New Jersey, and prescription records, so maybe that will be enough 'data.' I take as little as possible to function - I am trying to keep liver and kidneys working!

Up way too early; needed something to eat. I can't seem to stay asleep or get to sleep if I'm hungry.

Otherwise in fine shape. Have negotiated for (not particularly well) and acquired the adult trike! It's mine, and I now have it in a place where I can get it out easily and fairly quickly. Looking forward to some leisurely rides at my convenience. Lady I bought it from got it as a 90th birthday present, and is now 91, and thinks she isn't going to be using it much (falls are a big problem in that age group, and the recovery can be very long).

She looks in better shape than I do.

People here seem to last longer than average - reduction of stress is good for humans.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I have a stinking cold for which I am blaming London and its many germs. We were at my downstairs neighbour's funeral this morning, she was 97 and fit until just the last few weeks. Sadly lost her daughter to cancer which I think hastened her passing.
Younger Daughter's graduation this week. Perhaps I'll pick up a bug at this one too?
Know what you mean GL. By the time I've looked the threads over for any inappropriate postings and checked for new dodgy Canadian pharmacist members I have lost the inclination to post anything myself!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Ended up in bed very early last night, feel slightly better today, although knee was really bad this morning. Eye is a bit stingy, hoping it’s just an after effect of the test yesterday. Was drizzly on the way to work, but now just cloudy. Got a friend coming round after work, her hoover has broke, so lending her my spare till she gets paid. Specsavers have written asking me to book an eye test, need to ring them to tell them that’s pointless, got enough people looking at my eyes! Saw on Facebook last night that the rescue Lucy is from had their premises broken into overnight, luckily the takings from the fair weren’t on site, and they didn’t go near where the animals are kept, but sadly it means some of the money will now need to go into dealing with the destruction caused.

Do hope that is enough Alicia – I know what you mean about just taking enough to function, I’m the same with my anti-inflams, although trying to keep those at a minimum recently has resulted in more strong painkillers, not sure which is worse to be honest! I’m the same with sleep – hunger and temperature really affect my ability to sleep. Glad you have the adult trike now, hope you get lots of enjoyment out of it. Glad you are still around GL. Sorry to hear about your neighbour R, hope you don’t get any more bugs at daughters graduation. Sorry you aren’t needed today Lynne, hope son-in-laws eye is nothing serious. Hope you feel better soon Jud.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4838 comments Morning, all! This is the kind of weather I grew up in, first in Southern California, and then in Mexico City: sunny. And almost always warm enough to go out in without a jacket.

It's taken over ten months here to get used to it again; New Jersey's weather went all over the place in the course of each year, and you really couldn't tell what it was going to be until you went outside.

Funny what is 'normal.'

Does it go back to childhood for any of you?

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I saw Mexico was having some very bizarre weather last week. Hail so hard it was a river of ice about 3 feet deep then 30°. Italy had some terrific hailstorms this week too. As a child in a midlands city I was used to more settled weather but now live by the coast and get weather that changes with the tide some days.
Highlight of my boring day today was we bathed the dog outside of course, he’s too big for the shower cubicle and no way could in I lift him into the bath. He looks super shiny now.

My whole family of origin is in Mexico City, so I worry. Bizarre is right. Guadalajara in a hailstorm of that magnitude was bizarre.

Apparently it does because I heard myself announce a couple of weeks ago that I always remember June as being a bit iffy, often cool and overcast for at least half the month. Whether or not that's a true remembrance, I haven't a clue.

Enjoy your holiday, Jud.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Has anyone read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo? Is it worth persisting? I'm 10% in and it isn't gripping me yet

message 11398: by Will (new)

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Jud

It's a book that divides opinions.

The first 10% is certainly a struggle for many people as we have to wade through the court case that doesn't seem all that related to the rest of the story.

Things pick up after that when we meet Lisbeth and the main story kicks in.

After that ... the world seems to divide into "loved it" and "hated it". I know some people who thought it was brilliant, but I'm afraid it left me cold. I found it exploitative, full of author wish-fulfillment and sloppily written. But maybe that's just me.

All in all, I wouldn't judge it on the first 10% because even some of the book's biggest fans say that the start isn't the best bit. I'd give it a bit longer to help you decide if you're a fan or not.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Thanks Will, I shall do.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Had another rubbish night sleep, and got the food shopping to do after work. Rang the docs yesterday, they have agreed to let me try a different antihistamine to see if it helps any, without having to go and see someone, that’s a bonus. Friend lent me a pair of her sunglasses, still got a bit of light sensitivity though.

Enjoy your holiday Jud. I would persevere with the book, I think it was a slow burner, but I did enjoy the trilogy. Refusing to read the rest as they aren’t all his books.
