Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments We had a terrified dog in the vets yesterday. It wasn’t nice at all. For some reason the young Dobe had a meltdown. i dont know if he smelled something that frightened him but he wasn’t going to stay. Armwrestling 40 kgs of dog in flight mode was hard going. They’d got a glass sliding door to the consulting rooms so that was another worry as i thought he’d just go through it if he got there. There was also a chihuahua, a Yorkie, and the vets cats all wandering free. The parrot was earsplittingly shrieking and whistling. It was pandemonium.
Thank goodness he’s such a good temperament he wasn’t fighting or biting. Just wanted to run. He crashed at home, totally exhausted and so were we.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I feel a bit better now. I’ve just phoned the vet to apologise for his wild behaviour. (Dog’s not husband’s) Vet nurse said there was another dog in surgery who had been absolutely terrified and other dogs coming in had reacted to his fear as well. She wasn’t bothered. He’s the most laid back dog we’ve had so it was really quite a shock. The vet actually calls Daisy the spaniel Miss Dynamite. I dread to think what he’ll call Billy in future.

I'm glad everything is sorted out, Lynne - wrestling big frightened dogs sounds dangerous. I'm terrified of being knocked over by dogs - too easy to break something and I heal extremely slowly. I think they have a limit of 35 lbs. here for dogs (none for cats, but you can only have the domestic kinds). All the ones (dogs) I've met here have been so sweet.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12605 comments Morning - not sure what it is about 5.30, saw it again today. Didn't think I would get back to sleep, but clearly managed it as just woke up again! Still feel tired and drained though. As I had a spa day yesterday, I decided not to do any housework either, so got quite a bit of that to do, and need to go to the chemist and get milk. Sun is shining though. Foot still really sore.

Aww, poor dog Lynne, there was clearly something in the surgery for more than one dog to react like that. Doesn't sound a pleasant experience.

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments We have a dyson cordless as well, Kath. I rarely vacuum. Husband (an expert with the dyson) saw me hoovering a rug a few months back and was genuinely shocked, saying her better get a photo as proof. Ha ha ha!

Been really busy at work with long hours. Now hanging about Heathrow en-route to Singapore. Leave Singapore Thursday night and be back to Jersey on Friday afternoon. Been at Heathrow since 12:30 and flight is at 7pm.

Suppose I better try and pass the time productively . . .

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12605 comments Ironically I've just seen an advert for the cordless shark, very tempted, my shark is the best Hoover I've had.

Wow, thats a long gap between flights Kel! Safe journey

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12605 comments Wow, can't believe I'm the first one up, it's nearly 9! Morning all, sun is shining, although not sure it is very warm. Usual Sunday chores, with the addition of a pile of ironing. Going to a cattery with a friend this afternoon, I normally catsit, but this time they are going to a cattery, but I need to pick them up due to flight times, and I don't know where it is. Not sure I'll get chance to have a bath tonight.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Lovely and sunny and warm here. Think I’ll have a bit of a shock when I get home. It’s a about 10° cooler. I’m glad we aren’t travelling today. The Chinese President is in the region and many roads are totally closed to allow them to travel without the hoi polloi cluttering up the roads.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning

We had a lovely weekend. I washed the slide sown on Saturday morning so the kids could make the most of the sunny morning and then yesterday we went to Dobbies which has a wee soft play in it that the kids love, then stopped for ice cream on the way home. We planted a few sunflower seeds and some cucumber seeds too. Fingers crossed they all start to grow, they are in our conservatory at the minute which is probably a bit cold... might need to move them.

I also stayed up too late last night but I made myself a new dress, think it is a bit big so might have to alter it a little.

I hope all is well and everyone is feeling healthy

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Think I must have caught something on the plane back from China but I finally feel 95%.

I'm still high from seeing Blue Planet last night where the commentator stroked a whale and a woman sat on the sea floor and sharks came and sat beside her and appeared to thank her for removing fishing hooks from them. I've seen something similar with blackbirds and will never forget it, but sharks...? Wow.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12605 comments Quiet day in the office, 2 colleagues on hol, one working from home and boss didn’t get in till 10.30. Plus sun is shining. Last day of holiday tomorrow, our holiday year ends this week, so will be quiet all week. Ratty neighbour randomly sent me a facebook link, which I Can’t look at as I don’t do FB, so asked neighbour if she could view, thinking it might be important, turned out to be a cute animal video!!

Sounds a nice weekend Jud. Hope you feel 100% soon Anna.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4840 comments Morning all. I got back on the adult trike yesterday, and wandered about the local area at a very comfortable temperature, all by myself.

I need these excursions - to feel independent. On the trike, I can get about. Walking, not so much.

Have to ask them if they can keep the trike somewhere other than the north garage (underground), as it takes quite a bit of energy to guide the trike into the elevator at both ends of the ride - and the other option is to walk it up a steep incline. So I only go when I have enough energy to deal with all that. Maybe I should have someone take of video of the awkwardness.

message 10326: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4840 comments I agree - and I'm the only one who is using it right now.

I keep telling other people here about it, and offering to show them how to make it stable. Part of it is self-interest - I'd like them to replace the other trike which they say was stolen so I can go for a ride with other people.

I just sent an email to the person at the top; let's see if he comes up with something.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Another sunny day but still blooming windy. Having a trip to the Botanics in Edinburgh with my bestest gardening buddy today to enjoy the spring displays - especially the alpine houses. We have been saying "we must do that" for six years!! Lunch may also be taken :)

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Morning all Another sunny day in the valley. Anyone would think that Spring was on its way ... not that I feel like we've had a winter here particularly. Still, it's nice to see the sun out.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12605 comments Sounds a good day R. Hope you find something to do and headache goes Jud. I tried to go back to bed and failed, but ankle on good foot is painful and hard to bear weight.

Thanks, Desley. It was a good indicator of at least minimal interest to get three or four emails back - and a Sunday evening. I thought I'd wait forever for some kind of response.

They're trying to attract a younger (ie, younger than 85 average age) crowd, which means emphasizing facilities such as the 'Wellness Center' (indoor exercise facility with three pools), gyms, outdoor pool, bocci ball court - and the bikes.

Most people, IMHO, wait too long to make the move - and then don't get all the benefits. They move when one person in a couple already has problems - and have to deal with those problems from the very beginning. We're in that category, but though chronically ill, I've been stable for years.

So making a minimum effort to help me get that trike out and ride it is in their best interests. If so, I'll benefit. And so will the next person.

Flower show time! I miss the Philadelphia Flower Show - every year they force Spring about a month early, and it's a huge indoor display the the Convention Center.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Holy smokes I'm getting so far behind. I can't even sew my tomatoes until I'm back from skiing as there's no-one to water them. Eeek.

Also I've got this weird pain in my heel. It's chuffing awful. Just won't go. So now I've got this weird up and over walk because I have to use the right leg on tip toe. Or I wear shoes with higher heels and my heel is fine but I'll then have sore knees. It's chuffing annoying. Probably plantar fasciatis, but the 'cure' is not things I can do; ibuprofen (no because ... IBS and ... brain fog) and rest (mwahhahaharhgh! That's a good joke! With my parents, guests and a ten year old er ... no).

Otherwise all is dandy. Just off to collect McMini from a friend's up the road. It's sunny here.

Cheers all

MTM

I had this image of you with a needle and tomato-coloured thread, stitching up a poor tomato which got injured somehow. Thanks for the laugh.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning!

I too like the mental image of Mary sewing a split tomato, it's not a very clean image. Tomato guts EVERYWHERE.

I can't decide whether to move our seeds from the conservatory or not, it's cooler than the house but slightly warmer than outside.

I've saved £40 from not buying coffee everyday, when I don't buy one I transfer the money to my savings instead so now I actually see the money and I can spend it on an extra special treat instead. Definitely going to keep up this habit. It's scary how quickly it all adds up! Getting an early-Brexit-might-screw-everything-up-pay-day coffee today though.

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Morning all. Following a third sunny start, I'm beginning to wonder if this is summer in the valley and that we've managed to bypass Spring entirely!

I think the whole sewing tomatoes thing is a stitch-up ... :-D

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Haha! Morning all. Today is the day of the village ladies' lunch so I'm off gadding about later. My toms do the daily trek from the house at night to the greenhouse in the day - and back again. I never trust them in the greenhouse all the time till May. You can get a snap frost and lose all your crop overnight. As one of these is my own cross and another is an 'unhybrid' several years old, I'd also lose my seed stock and I'm not up for that.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Morning darlings, I’m home. Knackered but all ok. The journey was very long yesterday we got away 7 French time and got home at 8.30 U.K. time so that was nearly 15 hours. The most ofit was from Dover to Wales. Traffic jams and roadworks were everywhere. We do have to stop to feed and dog walk a bit, but we don’t waste time. Anyway that’s it till we know what’s what with Brexit for our dogs and driving changes if any.

Eeekk! I'll bring our seeds into the house then, just in case. I don't know how hardy sunflowers are.

Glad you're home safe Lynne and fingers crossed Brexit doesn't upset travelling too much and you can continue to go to France with the dogs easily enough.

I'm so hungry already, it's only just turned 12, I've already devoured half a packet of chewits and a brunch bar to try and stave off the hunger. I might have to go get my lunch already.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12605 comments Had a productive day off, it’s the last of this years hols, kind of feel I should have done more decluttering, but it only builds up again! Got some great bargains yesterday, just a struggle to find somewhere to put the cat food! Was glad I was in yesterday morning, a bee had sneaked in, Lucy was aware of it, but I couldn’t see what she kept fussing about until it suddenly went on her heated bed, managed to stop her eating it and put it outside, but it didn’t want to get off her heated bed – neighbour had one the night before huddled up to her lamp! Lucy was funny this morning, I kept waking up every 20 mins from 5.30, at 6.20, I stroked her, she moved to lie on my hand, and then at 6.30 got up and jumped off the bed as if to say ‘right, time to get up’!! Alarm doesn't actually go off till 7 though, but 6.30 means an early start at work.

Glad you at least got a response Alicia. Hope your heel gets better MT – you can get plantar fasciitis socks, I got mine for about £5 off Amazon and they do help. Wow, that's an astonishing amount of money saved Jud - could have audible with your savings. Glad you are home safely Lynne.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Today was a day of two halves - the morning planting pots of bulbs at the primary school and then not planting some creeping juniper plants as no-one knew where it had been agreed to plant them. So I have to go back. Quite glad actually as it's hard work digging up there - just a mile up the hill away from the coast and it's clay. trampled down and baked hard clay too at the moment!
Afternoon was spent painting and then going out for the messages as my Highland granny used to say :) I forgot the milk...
I wouldn't sow any seeds here before late April or even May. They always catch up and it's not worth the risk of late cold snaps.

My husband and the other gentleman are going to roast the coffee beans when they have enough.
