Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I just had a bottle of fizzy orange explode all over my kitchen floor. it takes a lot of kitchen paper to mop up 750ml of fizzy!

Lindsay (kiwi365) | 3672 comments Evening all,

Don't think my interview went that well. I just don't think they thought i was right for the role. I could be wrong, i have been before.

I am still nervous of chainsaws. I think i draw the line at circular saws.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments It is a well known scientific fact GL that liquids take up much more room outside the bottle than they do when sensibly contained therein.
Talking of liquids I think I deserve a whisky. I am proof reading daughter's economics dissertation and finding it hard going! The idioglossia of a different sphere of expertise can be quite impenetrable to the uninitiated. Or perhaps I am just thick...

Jim | 21812 comments I had to help edit the theological dissertation for a dyslexic friend. That was hard!

Lindsay (kiwi365) | 3672 comments Morning all,

Hope everyone is well?

Reading the stories out of Christchurch are both distressing and inspiring at the same time. Still can't believe it has happened. My mum said that the city feels very different at the moment.

Hope you all have a good day.

Sunny again here. May get my strawberry beds tidied up.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I was informed earlier today that I'm going to be receiving quite a hefty pay rise next year.

A bit of unexpected good news, that.

And tomorrow is a holiday.

I'm in a rather good mood at the moment.

message 10258: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning

Yesterday was our holiday, we took the kids to the Planetarium in Armagh. I was surprised at how small it was but the kids enjoyed their day out. We took a picnic so that always makes a trip more exciting and stopped for ice cream on the way home.

For spills like that I always use a bath towel, GL. More effective than kitchen roll for mopping up the excess.

I have a meeting in 20 minutes, do I get a coffee now or later... need to decide in the next 2 minutes.

I hope everyone is well this morning

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Getting ready for the return trip and there’s yet another strike and threat of fuel blockages. This is the fourth trip in the bounce that we’ve had to either rebook or worry about not getting fuel to come home. It’s more than wearing. It could be the last straw and we sell up.

I've been editing my daughter's dissertation on neuroscience. At the third sentence I stopped trying to understand it, and just concentrated on the grammar and punctuation...

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12605 comments Sciatica is a lot better today fortunately, just a bit achy today. Last night’s job was to help my neighbour hang a canvas she has had done of Sooty – she went for A1 size! Does look very good. Was foggy and drizzly this morning, but seems to have dried up now. Hopefully will stay dry, going to the co-op after work to use my 50p off cat food voucher.

It does baffle me how casually people use such dangerous equipment – think some things should only be available with some kind of licence. Sorry you don’t think your interview went well Lindsay. Interestingly Jim, read the post in one of your books titled 'Timing' last night - not sure when you wrote it, but you did say that you doubted Brexit negotiations could be done in 2 years - very accurate! Very good news Patti. Hope you can make it back Lynne.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments When you say Sooty, are you talking about the glove puppet?

In an infinite universe even Jim can be right occasionally. But still don't ask me who's going to win the 3:30 :-)

seems I was wrong about my interview. They want me back for a second interview next week. I have to do a presentation on my management style. this should be fun.

hope everyone is doing well?

message 10272: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Woop!

Well done Lindsay :o)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12605 comments Foot is really sore today, clearly shouldn’t have tried carrying my friends dog food delivery in only two trips. Yesterday I suddenly went really drained about 3pm, so didn’t go to the co-op, so need to do that tonight. Dry today, which is nice.

Read your latest blog to the cats last night Jim, was intrigued by the snippet I saw on the e-mail mentioning tableting cats – after reading it, think I’d rather tablet cats than cows! The cats appreciated it though, even came closer to me! Great news Lindsay, sounds an interesting second interview. Hope you enjoy a catch up with your friend Jud

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good morning, Kath can you tell me what vac you had after discussing it here and is it good. My OH decided I was just incompetent with ours so stomped off upstairs with it to show me how it’s done. At the second flight of stairs he asked me to open the doors for him as he couldn’t hold it, put it down or open the door. He was stuck on the stairs. He could have come back down again but that’s a man thing. Anyway after calling it by name several times (Effie I think he called it) I had to go outside, I’m not allowed to laugh at his misfortunes. we’ve got a wedding anniversary coming up and I might just crack and buy him a cordless😀

message 10280: by Kath (last edited Mar 21, 2019 04:09AM) (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It's a Dyson cordless -which hangs on the wall near a socket to charge. Very light and manouverable. It was the stairs that convinced us. Even so, it's great just to pull it off the wall and go over the rug, for example, when getting the big auld jobbie out of the cupboard was a massive undertaking.

Several types exist - it's up to you.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12605 comments Foot slightly better today, ended up going to the co-op with a friend, which meant I was well behaved and apart from something on offer, didn’t come back with things I shouldn’t, and the book selection was poor, so fortunately didn’t come home with any more. Was tossing and turning from 5.30, so decided to come to work early, although I did have a lovely 5 mins snuggling into Lucy’s belly before getting up. It's my Friday, although I'm not allowed to go home at 3.30 like a normal Friday!

Wow, that doesn't sound fun Jud! hope the internet gets sorted soon Benjamin. Glad that OH discovered it isn't you that is incompetent with the hoover Lynne!

message 10282: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (last edited Mar 21, 2019 06:38AM) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’ve got a Dyson stick in Wales. . I bought it on offer and I think it’s great for hard floors and the upstairs. It gets full very quickly with dog hair and dust on the downstairs carpets. But I think it would be ok for here. Its all hard floors either wood or tiled. I’m sure it’s better than that bloody heavy cumbersome Dalek beastie machine.
I’ll start looking for special offers. I’ve got four flights of stone stairs here. They are killers with a corded vac. I’m better off with a dustpan and brush. Thanks Kath. X

message 10283: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Some places sell reconditioned Dyson's, a fraction of the price brand new. We had one once and stupidly left it behind at our rented flat!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Afternoon all, going to a funeral, at least it's a nice day for it. Been to too many this year :(

Agog at the thought of jobbies in cupboards Kath but that must just be my Scottish showing!

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'm getting paid early this month because of Brexit!

message 10288: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments On the subject of Brexit, currently my lady wife is following Theresa May's antics on the continent in much the same way as she does a Test Match, with the BBC live comment page open and every so often she'll move from what she's doing to check the page.

But to keep things in proportion, with the test match she'll look every five minutes or so and read the comments. With Theresa it's every twenty minutes to half an hour :-)

message 10289: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments Amazon being too clever by half

I have downloaded the 'send to kindle' programme for the desk top machine
So I'd go onto Amazon and order a kindle and case
As I got to the end of the process I discovered that pretty well everything you press gets you signed up for prime, what I thought wasn't prime was signing up for a trial period
I have no use for prime, and spend ten minutes cancelling the order and cancelling the trial period.
As the trial runs for a month but I don't get any benefits from it, I might just not buy anything from Amazon until it's over
In fact I think I can buy it cheaper from PC world!

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Morning all. Seems a bit quiet in here *waits for the echo* ...

We have a Dyson 'animal' cordless. My only complaint is that the brush head gets clogged every few uses and needs to be pulled apart and cleaned. The good news is, once you've done it once, it's not too bad.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12605 comments Morning all, day off and Lucy is determined I'm not having a lie in - was up at 5 in pain, dozed off about 6 and then she wanted breakfast at 7.15. Have tried going back to sleep twice and both times she's wandered in crying! Luckily my plans are going for a spa day, taking a friend who has never been to one. Then realised I don't need to do any food shopping on the way back.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning.

Feeling good today and my legs are only a little sore after my 17km run yesterday. It was a lovely run down by the river, will have to do it again at some point. My next distance target is half marathon :o) My pal runs slower than I do so I wasn't out of breath at all and chatted the whole way, made me feel really good (and fit!).

Yay for the weekend!

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning. Better than swearing AT the old Jobbie version!

Back home between appointments. I had to return to the optician as their visual field testing machine was... can I say on the blink? It's now fettled so they've called me back in.

I’m getting a vac of some sort I just can’t be doing with more of his chuffing at the slightest thing. He copes with everything except adversity😁

Been away, China, and it's taking me a while to get back into the groove. Lots of nice booky things to catch up on and forgive me, please, if I've missed something serious. Hope you are all tickety boo or making progress towards that.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Hi Anna! All is tickety boo in Gingerworld just at the moment.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12605 comments Well, apart from a slight issue with our lunch, the spa went well, my friend enjoyed it, we just rotated between the pool and the steam room all afternoon. Then ended up nipping into Morrisons on the way home! Very tired now, will have an early night

Nice to see you back Anna

Lindsay (kiwi365) | 3672 comments Morning all,

Off to swimming lessons with Dex this morning. Always lots of fun as he really loves it.

We had a Dyson wall mounted thing like yours Kath but have recently bought a Shark one. It is amazing, has a bit more power than the Dyson but is still really light and manoeuvrable. Only trouble is it isn't wall mounted!

How is your foot feeling now Desley?
Welcome back Anna.

Hope you all have a cracking weekend!
