Review: The fifth book in the Gin Blanco series finally puts to bed the underlying story arc of the Spider vs. Mab Monroe. Although I didn't mind this particular continuing plot I am glad that it is finally at a close and am looking forward to what is in the future for a retired (semi-retired?) assassin.
The romance is minimal in this book but well played out as Gin and Owen's relationship continues to build. To tell the truth the relationships between Gin and her entire makeshift family moved forward in this book which I enjoyed.
My only complaints are the unnecessary repetitions. Estep does a remarkable job of recapping what has happened in previous books for those just jumping on the Gin bandwagon (why would you do this? Go back and start at the beginning!) However, for those of us who are extremely familiar with the series reading that Mab Monroe super heated Gin's metal rune melting it into the palms of her hands, oh, 5 times....is a bit much.
Overall this book was an exciting addition to the series and at this point I hope they remain this good because I look forward to many many more Elemental Assassin books. Plus I can't get enough of Owen.

I loved Katie right from the start I found little bits of myself in her which made connecting with her super easy. She’s not perfect which I found refreshing I like characters that grow as the book progresses and she does beautifully. Katie has two potential love interests in the story Declan the firefighter and Steve the reporter each one has its own qualities. I also really liked the Spell book club girls they made me laugh and think they are perfect for Katie.
I have had this on my TBR list since it first came out just never seemed to get around to it and when it fit the challenge I jumped at the chance to read it. The characters are easy to connect with I found myself giggling throughout the book. Brownies and Broomsticks is a cozy mystery that mixes a bakery with magic throw in a dead body, a little humor and you have a win. I was so captivated by the book I had a hard time putting it down I wanted to know what would happen next. I had to get up early just to see how it would end. The idea of the magical Bakery is super cute and the author did a fantastic job writing the story I feel like I was there in the Honeybee Bakery. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series it’s on my must read list. I even want my own little bakery I can only imagine what my husband will say. Also check out the recipes at the end of the book I know I’m going to be.

Review: Although completely absorbing I could only give this HR 4 stars because the hero is an ass through most of the book. He did grovel exceptionally well at the end which helped a lot but his treatment of the heroine throughout the book was horrid. He spent the entire book (and the ten years previous) plotting and carrying out his revenge on the man who took everything he owned when he was 21. Normally I would just go with this theme but the more I thought about it the more I just wanted him to grow up. Move on and accept how the cards were dealt (literally, as he lost everything in a game of blackjack). Anyway, despite my irritation with the hero the highlight of the book was the heroine. What a fire cracker. Even though she was forced into a marriage not of her choosing she stood up for herself to her new husband, his staff, his friends and last but not least his bitter enemy. I also enjoyed the 3 friends of the hero and am looking forward to their books. The epilogue was such a tease!

4 Elements--Magic~~Page 332--"I love the way you say my name. You're the only one who calls me Michael," he said, before he gave her what she wanted, his tongue stroking deep and smooth until she was squirming in his arms, pressing her breasts into his magic hands.
Holidays--Gift~~Page 56--Naturally, it would have been wrong of him to look this particular gift horse in the mouth.
Gemstones--Crystal~~Page 220--Cross's eyes gleamed, one fast swelling shut, as though he'd heard Bourne's thought with crystal clarity.

Review
I love Edie she’s a broken girl with issues but doesn’t let them drag her down because she does what needs to be done. Edie is my favorite type of character she’s a kick ass heroine who doesn’t rely on a man to help her. She also has a good heart risking her life to save others even those who would try to kill her. Edie has an interesting taste in men but I like that she looks for the good ignoring what’s on the outside. She has a lot of potential as a character who may be a nurse but is a lot more.
I’ve had Nightshifted on my bookshelf forever just never seemed to find the time. After having finished the book in my free time over the last couple of days I can’t believe I waited so long. Edie lives in a world where humans don’t know the supernatural exist but they have a medical place, and their own councils that rule. I really enjoyed the unique idea of using a hospital as the backdrop for Edie’s story it was fresh, and exciting. I really like the way the author mixed the different supernatural beings throughout the story even giving us new ideas like the zombie Ti. I just loved Edie she’s a great character who I was easy to connect with and can’t help cheering her on through the book. I honestly really enjoyed Nightshifted I can’t think of anything I didn’t enjoy it’s well written and exactly what I hopped for when I picked it up. I can’t wait to get current with the series I have the second one and plan to order the rest. A brilliant first installment in an exciting new series.

Bonus~Brown pg 1 - I was human and looked it: average brown hair, average blue eyes, average hips.

Review: When I picked this up I really thought it would be seriously awesome. I love a good ghost story and really liked Seanan McGuire's first book in her October Daye series. Unfortunately what I found with this book was that it was a serial series made into a full novel. The problem with this is that when read as a full novel it becomes irritating to see the continual repitition that would not normally be found in a novel but as a serial would be necessary. You would actually think that the repeating of most everything (from discussing the ghostroads to Rose's death)would make it hard to get confused. I was confused a lot in this book. It bounced back and forth in time, it discussed (read this to mean described) over and over the different levels of existence (the daylight, the twilight and the midnight), it explained rules of being dead by adding new ones kind of randomly and it introduced handfuls of different types of ghosts, witches, and others not to mention McGuire humanized inanimate objects like vehicles and the actual roads themselves making them into even more characters to keep track of.
When I wasn't slogging through confusing descriptions of pretty much everything I actually found several of the stories to be engaging even though I never really connected with Rose. The concept of the Urban Legend of the Phantom Prom Date turned novel is an interesting one but I can't say that I liked the results. As a matter of fact, I dreaded picking it up to finish it and contemplated making it a DNF. I persevered and finished (barely) and found the ending was not quite satisfying as one major plot thread was left hanging purportedly for another book to pick up in the future. I will not read that book but am not turned off by Seanan's writing as I'll return to her Toby Daye books for sure.

4 Elements~Ocean/Sea Page 97~~It's a beautiful night, big white moon and too many stars and the desert around us like an ocean of gold.
Gemstones~Jewelry Page 153~~I can do clip-on jewelry, magnetic nose studs, fake belly button rings, but nothing that actually changes the body that I died with.
Holidays~Flag Page 96~~He won't really see the other racers, or the road, or the blood that's dripping over everything, like the red flag signalling that it's time to leave the starting line.
The Head~Mustache Page 140~~"Told you she wouldn't stay on the curb, Paul," calls one of the routewitches, a middle-aged Hispanic man with a bristling mustache.
Bonus~Brown Page 30~~Her hair is darker than it used to be, chestnut brown instead of winter wheat gold, but I still recognize her.

Only the 3rd week and one of mine just repeated darn it! I'm off to see what I'm going to read.
