TBR so far for the Reverse Readathon coming up Aug 7:
All the Pretty Horses
The Chamber
The Years of Rice and Salt
Fury
On the Beach

My rescue kittens need a bit more time before they go in for spay/neuter surgeries, so they will still be here helping me with my readathon that weekend. But it does sound like we have a good possibility for a rescue organization they can go to once they are ready, to find better homes more quickly.

Lots of choices!
Same here. I'm hoping to finish books I started before, too. ;-)

Update: I am starting to get into my first book finally. It is a novel that started out as fanfiction, not a genre I am used to reading, so it has taken longer to get used to it. I am

The Girl on the Train
The Master
In the Woods
The Chamber
All the Pretty Horses
The Years of Rice and Salt
Fury
On the Beach
The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich: A History of Nazi Germany
The Tortilla Curtain
Titus Groan

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins The Master by Colm Tóibín In the Woods (Dublin Murder Squad, #1) by Tana French The Chamber by John Grisham All the Pretty Horses (The Border Trilogy, #1) by Cormac McCarthy Fury by Salman Rushdie
On the Beach by Nevil Shute The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich A History of Nazi Germany by William L. Shirer The Tortilla Curtain by T. Coraghessan Boyle Titus Groan (Gormenghast, #1) by Mervyn Peake
The Angel of the Crows by Katherine Addison Death on the Downs (Fethering, #2) by Simon Brett

Now reading:
The Angel of the Crows, started page 1, currently on page 130.
Death on the Downs as an audiobook, started at 4hrs, now at 5hrs & 5 minutes. This is book 2 of a series of murder mysteries I am rather enjoying, with just a hint of Douglas Adams-style dry humor and starring a pair of female amateur sleuths.

Wrap-up for Dewey's Reverse Readathon, Aug. 2020.

Finished:
The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich: A History of Nazi Germany
Death on the Downs

Read at least 50pgs:
The Angel of the Crows
The Nursing Home Murder
Titus Groan

I finished all 24hrs of this readathon, with a nice 3hr nap right after the readathon ended. I will roll over the rest of my TBR to next weekend, for the monthly Shadow Lounge readathon, though I may finish a few before then.
I highly recommend the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich for anyone who likes big books. It is well written, not nearly as dry as I expected, considering that it is a history book with lots of footnotes. I read it this year to gain insight about how fascism happens, and how everyday Germans experienced the regime that to an outsider from our time might seem horrific. If things got/get as bad in the US, would we notice. and how? What might we be able to do to resist or prevent such a nightmare in the US, if anything? I am not sure I got many solid answers about that part, but it was a timely read.
Death on the Downs was an audiobook, second in a series of murder mysteries I found on youtube. They are quite good, with solid female characters , including the 2 amateur sleuths. Carol, the primary sleuth, seems like an undiagnosed aspie (person on the autistic spectrum), which I like because I can relate to her better.
The Angel of the Crows is maybe not quite my thing, a novel that developed out of Sherlock fanfiction, in which Sherlock is instead a winged 'angel', Moriarty is a vampire, and Watson is a hellhound. I have a hard time with the scenes that draw too obviously from Sherlock episodes, but I'm just not used to reading fanfiction anyway.
The Nursing Home Murder is another audiobook, though I read part of this series as print books too. I am trying to go through the series in order this year because there is character development from one book to the next that I missed by reading a few of them out of order a few years ago.
Titus Groan is weird, so far. I have an omnibus edition that is the whole trilogy, so I may finish all 3 by the end of next weekend, but getting into the fantasy world for this trilogy is taking some effort.

I had lots more snacks this readathon, something I never worry about for the 2-day readathons, but for a 24hr marathon they seemed to help. I did not get around to yoga this time, so no wonder I was feeling stiff by hour 23. I had some issues with my internet blipping off for short intervals, one of those being most of the hour when I was supposed to have posted one of my discussion prompts (literally the question was typed out and I was proofreading it when the internet went off for almost an hour, very frustrating), but so few people were even awake&online for the late night (in the US) portion of the readathon that it wasn't so terrible. Actually my power blinked off for an hour during hours 20-21, just after my last co-mod hour, so maybe our neighborhood is getting maintenance on nearby power poles to fix whatever is making my internet glitchy? Oh well. It was a good readathon.

Tier 3 is every other book that looked tempting enough to join my stacks for this readathon week. I won't finish or even start all of them, but I will make progress on at least a few of these, plus the various audiobooks I also have from the library.

message 88: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 7 comments I like that you have them in tiers! I have three different stacks: those I will definitely read and hope to finish, those I really want to start, and those that I maybe want to start. Oh, and audiobooks.

There are instructions in the 'Instructions' topic in this folder. You just click the link that says 'new topic', fill in your new topic's title, and choose "For the Blogless' as the folder. Type anything in the 'comment' field in that set-up screen, then click 'post' and your topic should be ready to use in the correct folder.

Finished:
An Event in Autumn

Started:
More Than Human

Currently reading:
Before the Frost

I have a bunch of audiobooks checked out right now from the library-
Behind the Scenes at the Museum
A History of the World in 10½ Chapters
Invisible Cities
Italian Shoes
The Shadow Girls
Before the Frost
The Return of the Dancing Master
The Troubled Man

Audiobooks take longer, so I can obviously not finish more than 2 or so in 24 hours no matter what, but these are what I'll be picking from when i am not reading print books.

Great choices, especially the audio selection :) I'm very eager to read Invisible Cities myself.
