Welty's stories are great Chrissie, such a strong narrative voice!

If you haven't read it yet, there's a another famous Welty story written from the point of view of a teenaged girl, "Why I Live at the P.O." It's one of her stories that many people like: http://art-bin.com/art/or_weltypostof...

Chrissie Greg, I have read an anthology of Welty--Why I Live at the P.O. and Other Stories and that story is in it. At least when I read it, it did not speak to me. Anyhow, thank you very much for thinking of me!

I have been trying to get The Optimist's Daughter free online too, since it is only available abridged at Audible. If you happen to have a link to it free online, please tell me. I am pretty bad at finding things.

I just finished my re-read Pictures from Brueghel and Other Poems - I love it, especially the final section "Journey to Love" that he dedicates to his wife of many years.

I am also getting close to finishing Middlesex, a beautifully written book with a great story though quite long.

After that I can focus all my energy wrapping up my re-read of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

That's great Alannah - I feel pretty sure I will give it the same rating you did, based on what I have re-read so far. The quality of the writing itself is very high - close to poetry in terms of vividness of imagery, cadence, and consistency of perspective.

Petra | 3324 comments I finished reading the Cazalet family saga. with the book All Change. I'm sad to see the end of this family. I'd like to follow them into another generation (or two).

Thanks, Laura, for introducing this family to me. I loved this series.
