Chrissie Somebody I Used to Know: A Memoir is really good. I recommend it, and I am a person who avoids books about medical problems.

Chrissie Tamara, if you cannot get your hands on The Hard Blue Sky by Shirley Ann Grau pick another.

I can recommend all of the following:
The Hard Blue Sky 5 stars
The Condor Passes 5 stars
The House on Coliseum Street 4 stars
The Keepers of the House 4 stars Roadwalkers 2 stars This one was just OK for me.

Thanks, Chrissie.
I checked and the only book my library has is The Keepers of the House. I'll see if I can get a couple of the others through interlibrary loan.

Have you see the movie of PAHR? It is great. I might give the audiobook a try; I see now that there is finally an unabridged version available. I think it is atmosphere rather than action that draws.

Hmmm, movies and books are two different things. That you like one, does not mean you will like the other. Now I am again hesitant toward picking up the book. This is not the first time I have considered the book and then chosen NOT to read it. I am terrible.....I cannot make up my mind!

PattyMacDotComma Helen Garner is one of Australia's best writers, whether it's long or short, fiction or non-, and she's a firm favourite of mine. This volume comprises 3 previous books in one, plus some. Love it!

I looked at your ratings for the books you've read by him--3 stars is a like for me, but yes, you tend to rate them lower than many. I have rated his books all over the place, but usually 4 or 5, so I'd agree that he doesn't seem to be for you.

PattyMacDotComma The Man Who Planted Trees is a short 1953 "parable" by French Jean Giono. It makes a great conversation starter for both the dinner table and the classroom, but it needs to be read and read again by politicians!

Chrissie I have completed The Blue Flower, another by Penelope Fitzgerald.

My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

When I was exasperated I stuck in a short story by the author, Jhumpa Lahiri. Here follows a link to my review of The Boundary:
