Wildfire (Hidden Legacy, #3) by Ilona Andrews

Wildfire by Ilona Andrews
9/3/17 ★★★★★

After waiting so long for book two to come out, it was wonderful to have three come out so quick. I love reading about Nevada and Conner and the conniving world of magic politics that they live in. A lot has changed for Nevada in this book and the steps that she has taken to make her family safe, or safer, makes me really excited for the future books. Like Kate Daniels, Nevada is a strong female lead that is more than capable of taking care of herself in most ways, but willing to admit her weaknesses and accept help, both traits that make the book more enjoyable for me. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite series.

Accidental Sire (Half-Moon Hollow, #6) by Molly Harper

Accidental Sire by Molly Harper
9/11/17 ★★★★

Molly Harper's books always make me laugh. Just reading Dick Cheney's t-shirts bring me great joy. Just the ridiculousness of how Meagan is killed and has to be turned (vampires ultimate frisbee) and then how she in turn kills Ben, starts this book out on a great tone. This was book 6 in the Half Moon Hollow series, and almost all of them have been 4 plus start reads. The series lead, Jane Jameson takes the away from college, and home to Half Moon Hallow, to teach them the basics of being a vampire. There we got to get to know the creepy Georgie, the younger vampire who never quite learned how to act appropriately, she is terrifying yet hilarious. There was a mystery to this book too, but the main attention getter is the slow burn romance between Ben and Meagan as well as all the fun with the characters from the previous books. I had so much fun reading this book, I had to go back and re read a book from her werewolf series. I just always have such fun reading Molly Harper's books.

It’s been several years since I have read this book. Other than knowing it was Raphael and Andrea’s book, I didn’t remember much. Raphael was a bit of an ass until he realized what exactly happened to Andrea to make her pull back. Yes they wound up both hurting each other I was happy that Raphael remedy things as soon as he knew the truth. As with all of the other Kate Daniel books, this one was filled with some type of mystery and a lot of action. I forgot how much I love Roman. I would really love to see him have his own book, even novella eventually.

A Second Chance (The Chronicles of St. Mary's, #3) by Jodi Taylor
Book:
A Second Chance by Jodi Taylor
Finished: 09/14/17
Rated: ★★★★.5

Review:
This is the 3rd book in "The Chronicles of St. Mary's" series. The series is basically about Historians traveling in time. The employees of St. Mary's travel back in time to give back accurate reports about history and how it went about.
We follow Max who somehow always finds herself in difficult situations. This book was no different.
This time she goes back to the time of Troy on her mission, and things doesn't go smoothly at all.
I really enjoy these books, they're very exciting, emotional, and the humor is just my kind. I love the narrator of the audio, she does a really great job. A highly recommended series if you have yet to check it out.
This book ended out with a bit of a cliffhanger, so I'm super excited to check out the next book in the series.

Anita Reads | 595 comments That shelf (spin-off) is annoying. I think I've found the Vampire book I'll be starting this weekend. Not sure about Spin-off though. I think I may get into a retelling or something, as it seems like they are pretty frequent on that list.

Anita Reads | 595 comments Ok. For vampire book I'll go with Fantasy Lover (Dark-Hunterverse #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I feel like it's about high time I get started with her books. It's tagged more than 700 times as Vampires.

For my Spin off I may give As I Descended by Robin Talley another try. I tried listening to it last year in October, but I only got about half an hour in before I switched to another audio (it was a sort of try a chapter thing to figure out which book I most wanted to read at the time). It's supposed to be a reimagining of MacBeth or something with a Lesbian main character.

message 160: by Ora (new)

Ora (oeamis) I do love several of SK's Dark Hunter series. My favorite book is Night Pleasures (Dark-Hunter, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon . Kyrian is my favorite DH.

message 161: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 595 comments That's great. I saw slightly bad reviews of the audios because of a bad narrator, has anyone tried them, and do you agree?

message 162: by Ora (new)

Ora (oeamis) I haven't listened to any of the audios. That really sucks when the narrator hurts the book instead of bringing the characters to life.

message 163: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ | 1616 comments I read some of Sherrilyn Kenyon's books a while ago and enjoyed them. Don't think I did them on audio - so no help. A narrator can totally ruin a book....I maybe changing my spin off book as I started listening yesterday and not sure I can do 10 hrs of the way the narrator does the h's voice. I'll listen a little more today and make my decision.

I'll repost a selection Post if I switch

message 164: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 595 comments I know. That's why I decided to go with an ebook of it. I also know a whether you like a narrator or not, is very subjective, but still if a lot of people talk bad about the narration, then I won't bother.

The Selection (The Selection, #1) by Kiera Cass

The Selection by Kiera Cass
3.5★ 9/17/17

Well, one of my biggest pet peeves in books is a cliff hanger ending. While I understand this wasn't a complete cliff hanger, there was no story resolution here, in my opinion. So, here I sit now on the waiting list for book two so I can continue. As frustrated as I am, I did still enjoy it. It was a strange combo of a behind the scenes look at the Bachelor and a non deadly Hunger Games. Like the Hunger Games, participation in the Selection offers some families a chance at an end to their poverty and hunger. But like the Bachelor, there is plenty of catty women snipping at each other when the cameras and the eligible prince are not nearby. America Singer was a mostly likable character, and I enjoyed the relationship between her and Prince Maxon and how it changed throughout the book. I look forward to reading on in this series, but have learned to have the next books on hand as I go.

Review: it's been a while since I read book 1....and I didn't read the other series either. I must have a need for snark lately since the last couple of books have had it in spades and I've been loving it. Shooter (Johnnie) and Amelia each give as good as they get. Shooter is forced to go back to Alabama for his dad's funeral, the mean drunk that took his anger out on his son, by his Meema (grandma) who is a real piece of shit work. No one in the town stood up for Johnnie growing up and no one will go out of their way to offer a room or him to stay in (assholes) ~ they actually look down their noses at him when he shows up. They are kind enough (gag me) to offer him his father's apartment to stay in while he makes ( and pays for ) the arrangements for the dad's funeral. Amelia is his dad's next door neighbor and was her only friend in the town. Shooter, total player/manwhore, wants Amelia and no one else - things go wrong when his best friend and the girlfriend show up and Amelia thinks the girl is for Johnnie. Amelia ends up finding 8 kilos of heroine in her walls and hightails it out of Alabama and up to Shooters hometown. I enjoyed their story and loved how the women of the men in Shooter's town took Amelia under their wings. Personally, I thought the whole thing with Luis (drug dealer) was over pretty quick and I remember the drama/action of the first book dragging out longer. Once these guys set their sights on 'their one' they are totally invested....however, surprisingly the girls aren't so sure. Still enjoyed this one.

I think either one will be enjoyable but not too in depth to tackle this week. We are furiously packing this week trying to get ready for next Thursday.

I’m not quite sure about this book. I enjoyed it but it was a little frustrating too. I really should have reread the at least the prior book to remember where this was going to start. The CoN series is about Ambrose (what Nick is called after becoming Malachi) going back in time to change events in his life that made him embrace his Malachi heritage. I guess I will eventually read the series over when the last book in the series is released or when Nick finally gets his DH book. With this one, he was put in his grimoire. It took a while for him to figure it out and why. A lot of things happened. (view spoiler) It makes me wonder if book 9 is going to be the last CoN book even though I believe there is supposed to be more.

Heather ~ Marceline | 1017 comments Hey all! Sorry, been busy packing and work... oh and reading!

Well, it has its good and bad, but we are moving very close. Good that we can rent a smaller truck and make several trips, but frustrating to have to pack up everything in our house to move only 15 minutes away. We have been in this house almost 15 years, the longest I have ever lived anywhere in my life, so this is just crazy. My dad's job moved us a lot when I was growing up, so it's not a foreign concept to me to move, but hopefully this is the last time I move. My husband I hope to retire in this next house.

Lucifer's Daughter (Princess of Hell, #1) by Eve Langlais

Lucifer's Daughter by Eve Langlais
★★★★ 9/23/17

I decided to read this book because with everything going on, it was nice to visit the light breezy humor of Eve Langlais. I love reading her books, and the silly humor she write throughout her books. Muriel, the daughter of Satan, is waiting to meet her love of her life, before losing her virginity, much to her father's disappointment. Auric is the mysterious new man she has met that her father's has warned her against. He's not quite human, but she can't figure out what he is or why her father is very serious about her not spending time with Auric. In addition to that, there is a revolt against her father in hell that has her father in danger. This was a great humorous, sexy start to the series and was a fun, easy read.

Review:
This book is a retelling of Macbeth, with ghosts and lots of diversity.
On one hand this had pretty awesome moments over the book. It was a bit creepy, and I actually thought that the characters were interesting at times. I haven't read any Shakespeare, so I can't compare it to Macbeth. I think I know it's about a girl going on a murdering spree or something.
The girl here also wants revenge and get to her goal no matter what stands in her way to get there. What I don't get is her motivation behind this. I mean she wants to go to Stanford because her girlfriend is going and has already been accepted. She gets really high grades and works a lot for the high school she's going to. She just has this friend who always tops her, and know she's going to win the scholarship to go to Stanford. So Maria makes it her mission to ruin her friend's chances at getting the scholarship.
What doesn't make sense is - Maria comes from a pretty powerful family. Her mother is really high in politics, and since Maria already has really high grades, there's no way Maria wouldn't be able to go to Stanford without the scholarship.
I think that's why YA contemporaries sometimes goes a little overboard with the drama.
As I said it was fun at times, but for the most part I couldn't get by the plot.

Review.
This book is about Ivy who's trying to find her sister (who's disappeared). On the way she meets Adrian, and she finds out there's more to herself than she first knew.
I've really enjoyed Jeaniene's Night Huntress books, they were awesome. I don't know what it was with this one that didn't click.
I think it comes down to the romance between Ivy and Adrian. It was a little too instalovey for me. Otherwise it was pretty decent. The narrator was the same as Night Huntress, so that was great.
