It's read-a-thon time! As always, this is your official progress post. Use it to share your progress with the group and offer encouragement to your fellow read-a-thonners.

Tell us...
How many pages have you read?
How many books have you read?
What are you reading now?
What have you finished reading?

New feature! Some have expressed an interest in seeing a tally of the books and pages read by members. So for this read-a-thon we're going to try out Google Forms to submit the info. Just click on the link and enter your progress. This is totally optional and just a fun way to see how much we can accomplish this week. CLICK HERE TO SUBMIT

As with all our read-a-thons, we want to remind participants that the idea is to read, read, read. Read as much as you can and have as much fun as you can doing it. Don't make reading a job or a chore. Don't let the progress of others intimidate or discourage you. Everyone reads at their own pace and we're here to have fun. Go on! Get started! Read and enjoy!

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments So, my main goal for this read-a-thon will be finally finishing War and Peace, which I've been reading since January. In order to achieve that, I need to read 4% a day, which is around 60 pages. Thankfully I'm not working at the moment, so it should be feasible.

With the time I have left, I want to finish the books I started those past few weeks: Dead in the Family, Murder on the Orient Express, The Geography of Bliss: One Grump's Search for the Happiest Places in the World and Le souffle du jasmin.

I also just picked up Strong Female Protagonist. Book One from the library, I'm sure a graphic novel will be the perfect palate cleanser between sessions of W&P ;)

Marina | 1312 comments I had completely forgot that the read-a-thon was this week, so I haven't given it any thoughts as to what I'll be reading. So my plan is simple... Just READ :-)

Currently reading:
You Know Me Well - on page 80
Tørst - on page 200

Books read:
Genfærd - 357 pages
Samleren - 174 pages
Side Effects May Vary - 316 pages
Politi - 526

Total pages read:
1653

message 4: by Aline (new)

Aline (thousanduniverses) | 201 comments I'm currently reading A Court of Wings and Ruin (160 pages in). Afterwards I'm going to read Always and Forever, Lara Jean (already started, but only about 30 pages in) and I finally want to finish Jane Eyre (about 160 pages left).
Also I started reading How to Be a Bawse: A Guide to Conquering Life (nearly in the middle of it), so I want to read a bit of this too, but don't necessarily finish it, because I don't just want to fly through it.
If I manage to read all this and it's still time I still have more than enough books on my tbr :D

message 5: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia (anastasiaharris) | 1730 comments Copied from Kick-off post

I will be trying to finish a few books as well.
I should be able to finish listening to Mrs. Dalloway tomorrow while doing yard work. I also want to finish reading I'm Kona Love You Forever tomorrow. It is a short read so doable.

This week I need to finish
Chasing Aphrodite: The Hunt for Looted Antiquities at the World's Richest Museum- it has been renewed at the library too many times

The Keeper of Lost Things- a seven day book so due next Saturday. The hold list is just to long for me to want to wait again.

Blackfly Season- another one of those books I have renewed to many times.

I would like to finish listening to The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time with my daughter before the week is out too.

I will be choosing a new audio book from the Gilmore Girls Challenge but do not expect to finish it by the end of the week.

Let the games begin. :)

I do have another book that I need to read before Tuesday The Evening Chorus for my IRL. I read two pages so far and it looks dull as dishwater.

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments The plan
I'm going to try to get up to date with all my reading challenges this week. I'm technically up to date with AtY (20/52 books) but I had aimed to read in order and I'm a couple of weeks behind so I'll aim to catch up. I'm doing the Popsugar challenge too but I'm slightly ahead on that so I'll put that aside for this week.

So my plan is:

Finish reading:
The 39 Steps by John Buchan (reading for AtY prompt to read a mystery)

Continue with:
A Brief History of Seven Killings by Marlon James (reading for AtY prompt to read a really long book)
I'm currently about 40% through and I'm enjoying it a lot so I don't want to race through it. I'm not aiming to finish next week but would like to get up to about 70% finished.

Start and finish as many of these as possible:
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins (reading for AtY prompt to read a New York Times bestseller)
Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel García Márquez (reading for Book Riot prompt to read a book set in, or by an author from Central or Latin America)
* Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe (reading for Book Riot prompt to read a classic by an author of colour)
* The Emigrants by W.G. Sebald (reading for AtY prompt to read a book that you've owned a while but not got round to reading)

I doubt I'll finish all of those, but I'll hopefully get through at least two or three. Looking forward to reading along with everyone. :-)

Updates
14 May
Finished reading The 39 Steps
Started reading The Girl on the Train

15 May
Finished reading The Girl on the Train
Read Chronicle of a Death Foretold

Total pages read: 91 + 324 + 122 = 537

I'm at work today and rest of the week, so I won't be able to read as much the next days, but I'll start a new book when I come home later.

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments I totally forgot about this! Yesterday was Mother's Day anyway, so I got to indulge and spend a day doing things I enjoy (and NO housework or cooking), which not surprisingly included some reading.

I'm currently working on Tender Is the Night, and I read 50 pages of that yesterday. I plan to finish that over the next few days. It's not that compelling. :( I'm also planning to progress a little on Catch-22 and War and Peace. I think I'll start The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer too, as I like to have a non-fiction book on the go, and the one I'm reading (On Photography) is pretty dense & not particularly readable.

I noticed that Sophie!! This is my first time reading it, surprisingly. I have read Call of the Wild. This was my 7 year olds pick, so we're slowly reading it aloud. I'm going to try and read it ahead myself this week though because there are some parts that I'm trying to leave out as I'm reading. ( that was a little hard in the beginning because the fact that they were moving a casket with a dead body caught me by surprise.) I feel like some parts of it might be a little frightening for her, so I find myself trying to reword things in a more little girl friendly way, without skirting the fact that this is just how things are in the wild.

I've finished two books, and I'm hoping to finish Side Effects May Vary soon because I have to return a book on overdrive so I can make room for a new book I had reserved.
I'm also reading Politi and I'm planning on finishing it this week, so I'll have finished at least 4 books when the week is over.

Brianna (bebecburt) | 546 comments So I ended up not working yesterday as scheduled due to some issues we had to take care of at the house, but that did mean I had a bit more reading time! Yay!

I was able to get through the last 153 pages of Someday, Someday, Maybe.
I also got through 14% of How Dare the Sun Rise: Memoirs of a War Child.
I started a new book as well, The Last Kingdom, and read 31 pages.

So far I've been able to read a total of 526 pages & 37%!

How many pages have you read?: In total, I've read 100 pages of The Postmistress, and finished Ghosts, which I think was about 250 pages. I also listened to the majority of Lolita as an audiobook, but I'm not sure what the page equivalent is for that. I listened to 75% during the read-a-thon, so however many pages that is.

How many books have you read?: 2

What are you reading now?: The Postmistress

What have you finished reading?: Lolita and Ghosts

I also got through 74 pages of Harry Potter #6

Getting late now, so I don't have much time to update all the questions. Today, I read 92 pages of The Postmistress, bringing me to a total of just over 400 pages plus whatever the equivalent of 75% of Lolita is. Still only 2 books completed.
