Karen | 131 comments Just finished listening to Anansi Boys, my second Neil Gaiman book. I loved it and gave it 5 stars. FYI: Lenny Henry is one of the BEST narrators I've ever listened to...and I've listened to a lot of them over the years.

message 304: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline That was a great audiobook. I listened to it when I was driving a few weeks ago.

Laura H L (laurah30) | 651 comments Flowers for Algernon. I never read this book in high school and I just happened to come across it a while ago. I listened to the audio version and I thought “now this is a book that deserves to be called a classic.” Written in 1959, the story is still relevant today.

PattyMacDotComma Seventy years old next year. Scary how well George Orwell forecast in 1949 what might occur in 1984, some of which we deal with in 2018. Can't find any reference to Fake News, but the whole premise is based on continually rewriting history. This was a re-read for me, so I re-reviewed it.

If you mean The Keeper of Lost Things, I’d say it depends on the kind of book you like, Yvanna. I’ve included some quotes in my review and a bit of a summary (without giving away any of the plot!), so you can get a better feel for it. If you click on the link in the post above yours, you’ll see the review.

Hectaizani Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood.

I’d call it a novelization of a true murder mystery. Which makes it like Capote’s In Cold Blood which I’ve seen described as a non-fiction novel. Set in 1800’s Canada it featured a teenaged servant who supposedly murders her employer and the alienist who is trying to figure her out. Atwood is always an excellent story teller. I really enjoy her books.

Karen | 131 comments Just finished listening to my 3rd Neil Gaiman book. I gave another 5 star rating to American Gods. This audio version was the 10th Anniversary/Author's Preferred Text edition read by a full cast. It was absolutely excellent! As a special bonus, in the appendix, you get to hear the conversation between Shadow and Jesus that was left out of the original book.

Talea | 2 comments Poor Kinfolk and Rich Relatives by A. V. (Shorty) Culpepper Poor Kinfolk and Rich Relatives

We have an Alabama Room in our local library that showcases authors from our state and I found this gem there. It took me back in time to when I'd listen to my Opa chat with other old men and the twinkle in his eye as he got to the punch line. I don't think any of them knew how to tell the truth as they tried to outdo each other with wit and humor. Felt like home reading this oldie but goodie.Poor Kinfolk and Rich Relatives

Karen | 131 comments Last night, I finished The Story of Arthur Truluv by Elizabeth Berg. I gave it 3 stars. A story of 3 lonely people who find each other. Sweet, undemanding read for a summer's day, but if I had to select one of Berg's books to recommend, I'd go with Open House!

PattyMacDotComma I was fascinated by My World on Wheels: The Posthumous Autobiography of Russell Mockridge. A great Aussie story of a unique international champion who beat not only the amateurs in the Grand Prix of Paris, he beat the professionals as well - so they banned amateurs after that! Then he won a couple of Olympic gold medals.

It's an old book, so I summarised rather than review so people can enjoy some of the stories. He was a good writer, too.
