Great news- keep us posted!

Shannon Drawe | 30 comments Congrats, Alex!! Awesome news!

Since I'm late to the party (having been dealing with personal things and needed hibernation for a couple weeks) I finally pulled up the new Indie Authors Monthly magazine on the laptop and spent the next hour or so grinning at myself and reading it cover to cover. I'm thrilled to have been included, and congrats to everyone that took part, and worked so hard, to make it fantastic! You guys are incredible! I've already shared across social media platforms. :)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments I need to find somewhere that deals with erotica. Or I need to switch genre.

I just did Goddess Fish for my son and The Children's Book Review for me and the results were encouraging.

message 709: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Well done everyone.

At the moment I'm happy writing. I have such a lot to put out, when I've done that and I'm happy with some output I'll sit back and work on some promo. Right now I feel like a one non-hit wonder.

In other good news I ran my first book through Grammarly last night (didn't know it existed when I first published) and I republished all three versions (ugh). I think I saw something that grammarly didn't pick up after I'd published, but anything missed now falls under the heading of "quirk" until someone else makes an issue of it. I have done my best with what I have and can afford.

Publisher's Weekly contacted us today and said they would take an ad on our Blog Radio Show Navigating Indieworld. I'd say that was a vote of confidence!!

The Children's Book Review has listed Oh Susannah as thier Best Selling Middle Grade book!!

message 713: by Aislinn (new)

Aislinn I finished the first draft of my next book today! I'm aiming for a July release, so I want to have it ready in early June. I'm going to try, once again, to get some pre-release reviews. I'm not hopeful (it's never worked for me before) but it's worth one last shot before I pack it all in, right?

I just ordered a hundred copies of my latest book from both Ingram and Createspace- identical orders- Createspace was 100 dollars more. I cancelled the Createspace order.

No kidding?! Was that because of book price or shipping? Just curious.

So I have a question for all of you paperback people... (maybe not the right forum??) Do you feel like it's worth it to do them? I have 2 of my books available in paperback and have only sold a few copies of each. Not sure if it's worth it.

Congrats Aislinn!

J., it doesn't hurt. Especially if you think you might ever do a book signing.

My son's book The Battle for Darracia is free today- We used something- I don't remember which- Free Booksy or ENT not sure- well it hit number one in it's genre. This is is least successful book in sales and reviews, but not in content. (imo)

Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #214 Free in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Free in Kindle Store)

Aislinn Thanks guys!

As for paperbacks...I don't sell any, really, but I find them useful for giveaways and other things. I might eventually do a book signing. Not sure. I didn't bother getting a paperback of my third book, so that should tell you something. :p

From a person with hardly any sales in either format I'm beginning to wonder if anything is worth it. I've done a paperback, more for my own satisfaction than anything else, I am currently the only person who owns a copy.

Hang in there Amy, as Alex said, you'll find your audience. My limited one doesn't seem to buy paperbacks so I don't know if it's worth the $ investment to have them made.

Yay- Your success is a win for all of us, Erica!!

message 735: by Ben (new)

Ben Jackson | 320 comments IMO it's always worth it to have as many different versions of your book as possible. Once you pay the costs of paperback formatting, $50-150 you never have to do it again except for maybe minor changes. If you only sold 1-2 books a month, used them for giveaways or promotions it is well worth it. A well formatted paperback copy of a book is priceless. I have kindle, paperback, hardcover and audio versions of my kids books. It doesn't cost me anything to have them available. I make very little off hardcovers, like a $1, they're more expensive to buy but they still sell.

message 737: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Someone other than me bought a copy of my paperback. OK it's an old school friend of mine but even so, she bought one. So glad I republished when I found a word I got wrong. I republished a book for the sake of two letters!

message 738: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments I know. I'm pleased there's another tree out there with my name on.

AND double whammy, not only did I remember that I wrote a passage on my phone for book two, I found it online. It disappeared from my phone as far as I can tell, but I found it on a forum I'd uploaded to year ago.

It'll be the prologue which means my second book will no longer start with the words,

"Is anyone else itchy?"

Oh well.

message 739: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments That was why I liked the line. It's randomly relevant.

Hurray! I made more on paperbacks than I did on ebook sales this month, but that's not saying much...

message 741: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments At least it's something. I'm still happy with a single sale a month.

I love when a paperback sells- for me it's when I hear angels singing. Paperbacks sit at the end of your bed and demand to be read. They weigh heavy in a purse when you go some where and when a reader takes it out- it sells itself. If I see someone absorbed in a book, I may ask about it. The cover sells the book too and if they give it away- it is like a gift that keeps giving. I miss paperbacks.

message 743: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments That is true. No-one can tell what I read on my phone. Paperbacks are their own advert if they're read outside of someone's house.

message 744: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Not really a good thing that happened, rather a thing I made happen. Finished writing my second book.

I stuffed a request for beta readers somewhere in the help section if anyone is interested.

It is finally done! After two long months, I have an official website!!! Thank you to everyone in this group who has helped me with questions along the way. A special thank you to Alexis for your inspiring article (http://navigatingindieworld.com/alexi...). Thank you also to Erin and Jon for the great tips and instructions to help make my website stronger. I hope it is okay that I am going to post the link. Not trying to sell anything here, I am just showing off pictures of my new baby...I mean website. :)
